It's weird how we can all sit here and say it's wrong, but the way they kill the pig is probably more humane than how factories do it here in England!
@zephyriffic Killing an animal for food is natural. Numerous animals, including humans, do it. It is apart of nature and shoul not be viewed as wrong.
@drivehybrid They also know what went in it. Seeing as facorty farming, though effecient when it comes to producing and distrubting food throughout a country, has problems given that animals have all sorts of drugs and cheap nutrients pumped into their bodies.
Killing the pig had nothing to do with daily school life of a student. I feel BBC added that clip specifically to show how "backwards" and "uncivilized" China is. As if they want us to feel superior in some way.
@Umba No. It gives traditional background, just like killing a turkey fro thanks giving. I say we need not read too much into it. There is nothing uncivilized about killing an animal for food. We kill plants anyway, we just conveniently don't remember plants are living things as well.
It is simply cruel to kill animals this way. It was the same in europe 20 years ago. You need to impliment regulations and have animals butchered in dedicated place with less suffering. In China no regulation for animals. It will come I hope.
ah, come on people... Killing animals isn't that bad, because it is food.. And making it faint or not doesn't matter... Chickens and cows also get killed... And not because you don't see how they do it doesn't mean it isn't cruel..
@rock I know it's the same in America - I meant I wish they just didn't show it in this series. It was a huge shock to see it. But I know it's part of life :/
@della206 OHHHH and ducks get beheaded as well. and they run around headless with blood squirting out for a minute or 2 til their heart gives up... i hope you're not eating when you get this message
Pig screams sound eerily similar to human screams.

Loved this series so far until the killing of the pig. I understand people eat animal but should have been done differently.
readwriteread 9 months ago
@readwriteread it is done the same way in america
they hang the pig upside down and slit their throats
when you don't see it doesn't mean it is less cruel
