  • There is no natural selection for humans anymore lol

  • I want to live in a world where robots do all the boring and hard 9 to 5 jobs and cook and clean and make my own house so I can play videogames for the rest of my life.

  • @RyunSharp Historical trends point to the opposite becoming true. As technology has progressed, people have begun working harder and longer. This is not what people predicted 40 years ago, because they thought all the mundane jobs back then would be taken by robots (which happened to an extent) They did not anticipate the advent of more specialised jobs which take up more time.

  • Great BUT ....... now more teenagers will be alcoholic.....why stop drinking while a driver less car can safely take you home. Today inventors ignore the social impact of the developments.

  • I like driving, a world without driving would suck. I think this technology would be useful for drunk drivers and people who are too tired to drive or driving long distances. But I think we should just continue to improve the safety of cars with systems like ECS, etc, rather than trying to make the world a completely unvariable and boringly safe place.

  • @USCGAST A boring safe place? You think thousands of people dying behind the wheel every year is exciting? No matter how much we improve the safety of cars these deaths will continue to occur until people change their attitudes, which will never happen. Self driving cars are the only solution. And if you love driving, I'm sure there will be places where you can drive for fun still in existence.

  • This is just awesome - @SebastianThrun and the Google Self-Driving car cc @LockSchuppen @BMWi @SiliconSaxony

  • Now I just need a robot with my SS number that will go to work for me and bring a big check home while I am at the pool with my babe. He will be so efficient and intelligent that won’t be fired from work ever. I love the future. I just wonder if this will be available for us (me)… I’m sure CEO’s and managers will be my bosses first. Not looking good... :((

  • if the roads were full of these it would be chaotic

  • What they don't understand is that the risk of it is exciting aswel.

  • You may have designed cool section of information .

  • How will the car react to difficult/complex road situations? Like.. road works, humans directing traffic flow, broken traffic lights, narrow roads, yielding to other drivers, overtaking a vehicle, speed etc

  • @mike8055 It would be a challenge, but not impossible. If a human can do it, so can a machine.

  • @mike8055 you're thinking wrong. If driverless cars were possible they'd be no need for traffic flights or humans directing traffic flow. Because they'd be no traffic and cars would be completely aware of their proximities to each other. Hence no need for overtaking, if there's never a chance of congestion.

  • Your own videos make me more comfortable ...

  • Last but not least definitely not yet level of quality movies !

  • Perfect video

  • Exactly what applications seem to be to be able to revise movies

  • Is it possible to highly recommend far more yt channel such as your own

  • Have no idea when you know - you are generally prestigious ...

  • You are a genuine celebrity ...

  • hire out your new movie enhancing or you revise alone

  • This reminds me of the movie iRobot. The car Will Smith was driving was on auto-pilot and when he switched it to "hand" mode (steering manually), the woman freaked out because she was afraid of getting an accident.

  • Thrun is nice speaker. TED RULEZ!

  • 人类的希望

  • 太酷了

  • This is so INCREDIBLE!!! I say bring them...then I can go to the bar and just get HAMMERED and it's no problem getting home!! :D

  • Google will own the roads one day.

  • Big G is cool I must say... Sometimes they go into wrong directions, but overall.. Its fine!

  • 52 faggots dont know what a car is.

  • @ElMabrak666 Why are they automatically homosexuals if they dislike the video?

  • @sonydominates I don't think you completely understand just how many people could be saved by this. Even if terrorists did somehow manage to hack a large number of cars and create a huge traffic accident killing a thousand people (just imagine how huge a traffic accident would have to be to kill a thousand people....) how in the hell would that justify not saving the million people that die every year in traffic accidents?

  • @naijfboi I never said this shouldn't be made. I'm just stating my opinion. Most car crash deaths occur in less structured cars in 3rd world countries. And this would be very expensive to 3rd world country, so death rates would not change much. But deaths in cars must be reduced like you are implying. I'm just saying computers can mess up too and that idealistic technology will always have flaws. I just think this tech should be for bad drivers only and regular licences need to be much stricter.

  • @sonydominates the expense of this lies almost entirely in the development cost. There's no reason this would cost more than a regular car after development costs have been recouped. Computers mess up, yes. Which is why you make fail safes. The risk of a computer dedicated to one task messing up is already insanely smaller than the risk of a human messing up, with fail safes, the risk would drop to almost nothing.

ALL people are bad drivers compared to a computer.

  • wow i cant belive how many people are so lazy they actually want a car to drive around for them. do you guys realize how many jobs this will kill if these cars become more availiable in an allready dieing economy. truck drivers, mail people, taxi cab drivers, etc.. also computers crash and fail all the time whos to say that the cars computer isnt going to fail going 80mph? i think its a horribale idea

  • @browneyedgurllove It has absolutely nothing to do with laziness. And everything to do with how ai driven cars would be a million times safer than letting a billion easily distractable people drive around every single day.

"computers fail all the time". Some computers fail all the time. Home PCs are fairly fragile compared to what's possible to build if you take safety as a top priority.

    continued in next post:

  • @browneyedgurllove These cars would be built so if the computer malfunctions, the car would slow down and park at the side of the road. And since the other cars on the road would be ai driven too, and not by people with shitty reaction times, the rest of the traffic flow would adapt to the failing car, split apart, and let it pass without accident.. I hope it will be possible to convince people like you how much safer it would be. Because we need this badly

  • Good luck in the snow.

  • 49 taxi drivers are afraid to lose their jobs !

  • Can't wait until it's illegal to manually drive a car. That time will eventually come.

  • All the truck drivers around the world are already quivering in their boots. Once this is a mature, reliable technology, millions will loose their jobs. But it has the aspect of inevitablity about it.

  • @markuskentwood your a redneck looser. go shoot yourself you imbred faggitt

  • @talksikbooch you're* inbred* faggot* you sound like an illegal alien.

  • Amazing! Hoping to see this commercially available soon!

  • … yet I'll still have to manually check my blindspot until further notice.

    THIS CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH!

  • February 11 next year, a new law enters into force in Poland, saying that driving licenses will be issued for a period of 15 years. After this time you will have to repeat the exam. I think that in 15 years, driving licenses will be unnecessary.

  • OPEN INVITATION STANDING FOR THE MEDIA DEPT OF DRIVERLESS CARS TO BE ON MY SHOW... Please contact me ASAP.

  • Yesss, now I can get hammered and get home safely =)

  • everyone thinks they're a good driver, but in reality nobody is. I want this project to be completed as fast as possible.

  • @KurosenvsGrither no, you're the bad driver. i'm a fucking amazing driver. it's idiot drivers like you who think everybody's a bad driver so you use that to justify your shit driving

  • @markuskentwood listen, I know this is YouTube and rudeness is to be expected, but do you really think that it's just a coincidence that 90% of Americans think they are above the median in terms of driving skill? this is statistically and logically impossible. I'm not going to trust you or anyone else who says they're a great driver, when, even under optimal conditions, 4/9 of people who say they're an "above average driver" have to be wrong, no matter how unbiased you think you are.

  • i never want to drive so this is very good for me.

  • take women off the road and the world will be safer

  • If safe cars were keeping the road safe, there would be a lot more cops to take care of other things that need taking care of... Safe cars, safe roads, free cops, safer schools, safer neighborhoods, and safer public places. Why not?!?!!

  • Google = rise of the machines

  • This is how it starts, a simple car that drives it self, next thing you know the cyborgs with austrian accent are teleporting here from the future and theres a pissed off computer starting nuclear wars.

  • The problem is that computers can freeze, can have glitches, and can completely crash. If you're on a highway at 75mph and the computer controlling your car crashes then you're completely fucked.

  • @hoboX10 you know the problem with people? they drive drunk, fall asleep, and check their cell phones. The problem is when one of those happens when your going 75mph on a highway, and then you can be completely fucked...

  • Is that all people do? Complain about how it's just a boring car, or how people just need to learn better? If you actually listened, he clearly said he's doing it because it made a promise to himself for his friend. How would you feel if everyone was insulting you if your close friend died and you promised to do something? Get off his ass, and get a life you ignorant hypocrites.

  • Yay. Now the goverment can know everywhere you go!Thats not creepy at all!

  • google whoisgoddotorg

  • lol realize how google had let this stay up on the front page for over a week

  • how about actually teaching people how to drive and make it harder to get a license instead of having machines do it.

  • FAAAAAKEEEEEEE, YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE FIRETRUCK AT 1:32 ONLY HAS 3 WHEELS -.-''

  • I would trust these driverless cars far more than the crazy morons that would be driving them otherwise.

  • lol even if these did come out a ton of people wouldnt buy them i wouldnt.. i like having fast cars with good performance and have never been in an accident and avoided many so why would i need one haha i think driving is fun no a "chore" that has to be done...

  • Thumbs up if you believe that if this model is made there wouldn't be any use of Driver's lisence anymore. Since it's just all computerized and you just need to input the data on where you're going.

  • fuck it, who gives a fuck, it's fucking shit, FUCK OFF!!!!!

  • @rooster8090, take a chill pill dude lol

  • I think for most people nowadays, who have driven their whole lives, it would be difficult to imagine being chauffeured by an automated system . If the technology will thrive, its will be younger people who would potentially adopt it. There are still some serious issues with the concept, such as responsibility in an automated car accident for insurance purposes, and the longevity of the driving system in relation to the longevity of the car, but in our technology-driven society this is tomorrow

  • I hate change..

  • It is unlikely that this technology will ever be inplace within cities however in countries like the USA were travelling between cities is almost impossible without crossing a motorway (highway) it would make sense to essentially have bus type vehicles that were automotive.

  • how the way he parked?

  • if you want something done, ask google to do it...

  • @123qwerty That includes the censorship of websites and videos...

  • @123qwerty The full saying actually goes:

"If you want something done, ask a woman to do it. If you want it done properly, ask a man to do it."

  • @tannalv haha that is also true :)

  • this will ruin GTA and need for speed, there will be no more games like that, say no to driverless cars!!!!!

  • @Tihamah5 lol games don't need to be based on our current time, hell they don't even need to be based on reality.

  • @NoNiceNamesLeft i know, it was just a joke :)

  • I'm proud to be one of his students

  • Brilliant.

  • there are gonna be a loott of angry truck and taxi drivers

  • just make a smarter,a safer car theres no need for a driverless car,it takes all the fun from the passenger, this is just blasphemy for all of the true drivers!

  • this world is becoming centered around fear that we the people will not be allowed to do anything. i must warn you when this happens suicide rates will explode.

  • Great! I finally get my drivers license and now they wont have drivers anymore.

  • but i like driving, its the only way i relax,

  • @MastaGT Some people like to relax riding a horse as well... there will always be places to do the things you love, just not necessarily in the way of people who just want to get somewhere

  • Comment removed

  • THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!

  • lets just remove humans from the planet and then there would be no more need for cars. what a waste.

  • but the fun about driving is ACTUALLY driving haha

  • wow :)

  • cool stuff dude

  • 2012 is close think we need to call arnold soon ;p

  • Ted Kennedy would be proud....

Actually, since Google is behind this, it problably will drive itself off a bridge, or crash into a wall.

  • I wonder what happened at the tollbooth

  • Benefits:

-No more accidents (especially by stupid people like drunk drivers)

-No more traffic jams (all cars will cooperate seamlessly through a network)

-Making commute faster and more efficient

-You can do other things without having to watch the road

-The car can drive without anyone in it. It can be remotely activated to pick people up and drop them off all by itself.

    Automation makes life easier.

I predict this may become the norm in 30-40 years, maybe less

  • and this will be nice until the car malfunctions/is hacked

  • I believe that this is start of something great

  • Noo! Don't take from us the fun of driving a car!

  • this auto ????

  • friggin awesome.. do you know how many years the DARPA challenege has gone on yielding no real winner...

  • Just think if you were the sole human driver in a sea of Google cars. You could do whatever you wanted because they would all stop for you and avoid hitting you. Drive into oncoming traffic at 100 MPH? No problem. My personalized license plate will say MOSES.

  • @NOVAdashcam Wow. Thank you.

  • Whats a drivers license?

  • google whoisgoddotorg

  • Now I won't have to use my one knee technique when smoking.

    #winning

  • To TED.

Do you realize that you could also make the car kill people if ti fell on the wrong hands?

  • 48444444

  • why are people hating on this XD wtf do they want from technology, this could possibly be a good milestone for technological progression

i have a feeling they are just being trolls

  • the revolution begins, viva la google

  • lame

  • GAY

  • TED=SKYNET.......ZOMG

  • This goes ahead, and say goodbye to taxi driver, delivery and truck driver jobs.. the only jobs left practically.

    9/11 was an inside job.

  • @sanluisskywatch and I'm with the FBI, so don't post another comment with this username or you will be arrested for making terroristic threats

  • @samsherbert hahahahahahhaha, go and play your videogames instead.

  • @samsherbert Terroristic threats? Terroristic?

  • @sanluisskywatch What people need to say goodbye to is the ridiculous notion that everyone needs a job. If we would focus our efforts on progress and automation we'd eventually reach the point where nobody has to do boring jobs, so people can spend their time doing what they like. 1000 years ago 98% of the worlds population was farmers, because that's what it took to feed everyone, today 2% of the worlds population are farmers. This will happen for all other jobs eventually.

  • @Aetrion You and the two people that have liked this comment must be unemployed and somehow loving it. Your comment makes no sense seeing as how jobs are needed to eat, to pay for living, to run a government, and not to mention the parts and labor to build the automated machines you are idolizing.

  • @rossdawg18 Ask yourself, what is true progress? Is it the ability to make one persons life good? No! Kings lived well thousands of years ago, at the expense of millions of their serfs. It's the ability to make everyone's life good! If people don't want to do boring jobs we should strive for a world where they don't have to, not threaten them with destitution if they stop doing them.

True freedom means getting to spend your time how you like.

  • @Aetrion sounds like what Raël was talking about when he spoke of the future

  • @Aetrion I doubt that statistic is based on facts. Anyway, people need to focus they're skills towards a career they want rather than complain when they get one they don't like.

Back to the farmer thing, that's because food was (and still is) essential unlike cars and other luxuries.

  • @UltimateRaditz Food satisfies a low level of the hierarchy of needs, more or unlimited free time satisfies a higher one, but that doesn't make it any less essential for living a fulfilling life.

Just because someone doesn't have to work doesn't mean they won't do anything worthwhile, and quite frankly, I'm willing to have 1000 slobs sit around and do nothing if it unfetters one genius or brilliant artists who would have never self actualized in the tedium of a work driven world.

  • @Aetrion Many people have talents but many more are talentless idiots. Many people have jobs they hate but that's because they value money more than happiness. They don't realise it but if you ask them it directly they'll deny it.

There are too many people that do so little, if you did get 1000 slobs i absolutely guarantee none of them would be successful in anyway mainly because they're slobs. If you got 1000 average intelligence human beings, 1000 of them would be useful to the world somehow.

  • @UltimateRaditz The reason why so many people in awful jobs value money is because money pays for their food and the roof over their head. The system is set up to punish people who don't work because there is no job they enjoy, and as such full of justifications why that's the right thing to do. We call them lazy, we call them parasites, we call them useless. To be deemed worthy of life itself they must live a life of misery. We need to build a world where people can do what they want.

  • @Aetrion A world where people can do what they want let's all the bad people in the world kill and steal for no reason in which the only victims are those that are innocent. I can't imagine a perfect world, why? Because my conscience tells me it would have to be perfect for everybody and no one could make a decision for that many people. Even if everyone on earth were called to input ideas to this perfect world there will always be people getting the short end of the straw. It can't exist.

  • @Aetrion Everyone needs a job because everyone needs to eat. 1000 years ago 98% of the population were farmers, maybe that was true in Europe, i'm not sure that was true everywhere else, there are countries outside of Europe you know. In any case, those people were employed, gainful employment is necessary, both for one's nutritional needs and one's psychological needs. Time will pass and employment patterns will change, but everyone will still need a job, that will not change.

  • @dragonbalzy If 10% of the people on earth can produce enough stuff to support everyone twice over why should everyone have to work? The only reason why people cling to that idea is because to them it's imperative to punish people who "aren't useful".

Just like true freedom of speech requires you to value the idiot who shouts obscenities just as much as the philosopher, giving people true freedom to use their time as they please requires you to allow them to do nothing at all with it.

  • @Aetrion How will people afford the basic necessities for their everyday life if people "don't need a job"? What the fuck are you going off about?

  • @iGangster

You obviously don't understand the concept. Things change in 1000 years, pretty much ALL jobs today won't exist in 1000 years, let alone 300 years

  • @iGangster We will have so much stuff that nobody will have to pay for necessities.

  • @iGangster seriously..... your an idiot

  • @harrisontan How am I an idiot? It's a valid question if he's claiming that not everyone needs a job. By the way, I do believe you're the idiot here. Your ≠ You're. How did you even screw up basic English grammar?

  • @iGangster Everything is automated and runs 24 hours a day, machines make machines, machines repair machines, machines would do everything and work for free

  • @TheMcflopidisss Thanks for the mature reply. Quick question though, how would we afford things like food or pay for our bills when we wouldn't have any income?

  • @iGangster Food would be grown and harvested by machines then distributed by machines.

Any utilities could be controlled by machines and be self sufficient, nobody would have to do anything at all

  • @TheMcflopidisss But surely it costs money to have the machines up and running? Who's going to pay for the cost of that?

  • @iGangster Nobody, the only thing machines need to run are a power source.

The ONLY thing humans would do would be making movies and games

  • @TheMcflopidisss Oh okay, and I assume it'd be solar-powered then? (again, sorry if I'm sound sarcastic, but I'm really not, just honest questions).

  • @iGangster Well really anything with little maintenance I imagine, solar powered, bio-cell, hydrogen etc

  • @TheMcflopidisss ahh,okay, thanks!

  • @iGangster 1. Its quite clear to anybody with a brain he doesnt mean that these people should be unemployed 2. its the internet

  • The government will be against driverless cars.... a significant amount of revenue is obtained from moving violations

  • @Malvisk But policies against this would be considered unconstitutional.

  • @mrfantastik7 It will be a "safety" issue. They have kept the speed limit low in many states for "safety" reasons as well.

  • @Malvisk true, but banning this for the sole reason of not getting money would be unconstitutional b/c lowering the death toll with driverless cars intuitively benefits the country, so policies against these safe cars would be unconstitutional b/c it prevents the promotion of the general welfare and security, the goal of government.

  • @Malvisk Obama definitely gets paid when you speed.

    Right.
