Look up "Seisou Kouki Strania" (japanese name) by G.Rev coming soon. I think that's the best way to use the entire screen in new 2d shooters... the playfield is barred off and a square in the center, but you can still see the backgrounds and ships passing through in the greyed out sections.

Raiden IV used a vertical 4:3 monitor in the arcades so the only way to make "full screen" work would be to tip your TV on it's side. And even then you'd still have black bars on the top and bottom.

I'm impressed that they only added the shields. Xevious never really needed special powers, now that I look back on it. It just needed cool enemy and terrain reveals. The shields that help a bit is brilliant.

Question for all Xbox360 users out there. Just yesterday when I fired up my 360 I hit the eject button using my controller and the tray wouldn't open on my first try. On the second try it did. Today, same thing. When I first turned it on, I Pushed Eject on my controller and it wouldn't open. Second try it opened fine. This just started happening yesterday. I've had my X-box360 for 2 1/2 years now and never had a problem with it. Is this a bad sign? Has anyone else had this problem?

And a 29gb MAME folder. WE can play pretty much any Acrade game you could name, and a lot you couldnt, like they were intended to be played, and all Arcade Perfect, cos, well... They actually are the arcade games. Call it Piracy... But money simply could not legally buy such a collection, all complete, and playable on one system. Not to mention you can save states of the games, mod them, and record videos of you playing them all very easily.

I know its frowned upon, but if you love arcade classics, the only way to have a great, easy to play collection, is to have a MAME emulator on PC. The majority of the games ( And Im talking in the thousands ) you could not purchase anyways, you can have with a complete MAME collection, and the emulator scales the graphics and sound fantastically, even on huge TV's and monitors. Im sorry if anyone disagrees, but I have a friend who has a MAME folder on his PC, with an X Arcade stick...

The reason the shooters don't fill the screen is that most are designed for arcade cabinets, which have a different aspect ratio that a home television. If they wanted to fill the screen, then there would be unattractive stretching of the screen to fit the new aspect ratio.

No, he doesn't do that. When an HD video is uploaded to Youtube, first an SD version becomes available, then the video is left to process in youtube's server. Once it is done, the HD button appears on the original video.
