It all started with drag racing bikes. When you extend the swingarm and move the rear tire back, it changes the relation of the bike's weight to where the torque hits the street so it's alot harder to wheelie,and you can crank it wide open and not get dumped on your butt. Of course, these bikes are all about form over function now. The long swingarms do hurt cornering ability, as do crazy wide tires and lowering. These trailer queens are only about looking better than the next guy at hooters.

Why do you move the rear wheel so far back on custom sports bikes? Does it kill handling?
