  • but if they are going to be in that location isn't there a way to build them differently. It's not like you couldn't tell that there was going to be water there.

  • i think thats rodanthe pier but that whole end was blown off by storms not to long ago

  • for whom the bells toll!

  • 3:54 would be so fun lol

  • some wicked shit there, that is for sure

  • I LOVE this video. Thinking about coming 2 see this house in May instead of waiting till my vacation in Hatterras Island in October. I am afraid the house might not be there if I wait too long! Wow! I wanna see it now!!!

  • What song is That? It was perfect for the video.

  • eek a mouse is the artist and the song is Noahs Ark

  • Now that's "ocean views" taken to the extreme... Spear fishing from the front porch anyone LOL...

  • Amazing! How long ago were these homes built on the sand? Have any washed away over the years?

  • Serendipity was built in 1988.

  • And another thing: I'm really pissed that Hollywood came to Hatteras (sorry, business folks). Yes, the resulting boom in the tourist trade will make a lot of people very happy but the sheer traffic alone will surely cause the Oregon Inlet Bridge to collapse.

Sour grapes? Yes, but I remember when Hatteras was a very different place; a place of serene, exquisite beauty not soiled by the influx of fat-cats and their multi-million dollar "mini-motel" rental cottages.

    i hath spoken my peace.

    -b.

  • I haven't noticed that big a difference because of the movie.

Brainstorm filmed there and that didn't really change things all that much.

    Brainstorm was a better movie.

  • The old-timers are rolling in their graves wondering what kind of fools would possibly build houses on the ocean. They knew the island was but "shifting sands" and would never have dreamed of building anywhere but on inland areas, away from the beach and sound. Once, my father and I were fishing nets on the sound and he commented "If Daddy could see this" pointing towards the land, lined with cottages, vulnerable to the wind and waves. My grandfather would have had some great one-liners.

  • Hey, I live on the oceanfront in Buxton & am a REALTOR!. I had oceanwater under my house from last week's storm &, yes, I could lose my house to future tides, or the beach could build back they way it did in the '30s. Life & our "stuff" is pretty fleeting, but I have 30 great years, surfing, fishing, kayaking, etc., & raising my daughter just steps away from one of the best beaches in the world. I wouldn't trade my time living next to the beach for $1.1M (which I could have got 3 years ago) Wah!

  • That's what it's all about..A lifestyle and choice to except the good with the bad.You do it,because you land your family loves it..

  • I just got back from Rodanthe and was there during the high surf. It was a really exciting night. I think one of those houses in the video was one we were going to be in, but we moved to one lot back about one mile south when we checked in on Sunday. My three daughters, wife, and I went out to the beach at high tide and high winds. It was amazing!!!! Mother Nature is always going to win. What the hell were the people thinking that were out on the pier??? Crazy!!!!!

  • Excellent video; every REALTOR on the Outer Banks should be required to show it to any client purchasing oceanfront property.

The only sadness in this video is that we are destroying the beauty of the seashore when we build too close to what Mother Nature gives us. Will we ever learn?

  • To skiffmannc, it has been my understanding the word REALTOR is capitalized as it distinguishes one as a member of a national organization with a Code of Ethics to protect those we serve. I am not a used car salesman. The stink over the plovers and turtles was begun by a meager few who spoke for all, do your homework, my point being the careless thoughtless act of a few creates problems for all eventually.

  • i love to fish there. want to go back in october, but hope one of these don't happen!

  • Since Hurricane Isabelle in 2003 HI has several weak points, when it comes to Named storms or Nor easters,so this can happen often, but it doesn't.However,if this happens when your drum fishing it is a great excuse why you didn't go home on time.." I am Sorry honey..the road was under water"

  • you're right. good excuse. never caught a drum before. want to really bad! what is the best bait?

  • I wonder how those piping plovers and sea turtles are doing? You say REALTOR like you are important or something. Like a TEACHER or a DOCTOR or a FIREMAN or a POLICEMAN. Realtor is another word for used car salesman. Period. Those phones must not be ringing off the hook because you sure have lots of time to answer others comments

  • You just don't get it! You are so full of yourself and getting a little praise for your videos you forget what's important. Our phones have been flooded with calls from people who never even heard about Rodanthe until the film. It's just a shame you had to put such a negative spin on the area and rain on so many's parade. If it weren't for the visitors and investors your property would be worth squat, but I'm sure you'd like a fat return if and when the time comes. Again, shame on you!

  • I spoof a movie about a storm, with a spoof of an actual storm hitting the actual house in the movie and now I upset you,not the Island..I show this Island in the good, the bad and the ugly.I do not try to paint a perfect world picture that doesn't exist..I've had several HI REALTORS email me over your comments..we all agree you need to get a grip..And don't worry I am far from being full of myself, because I stay full of SH#!..have a nice day..

  • The Last word on this is you're making the issue about erosion and real estate, thus missing the point. This is the greatest thing to happen to the island and to play off the title has upset numerous people on the island who would benefit from the good will the movie could provide, waitstaff, fishermen, people who use YOUR services etc. Think of what you've cost others to promote yourself, each pat on your back is a knife in someone else's.

  • I hope your not truly telling me that this movie is the greatest thing to happen to Hatteras, because of all the people that will flock here. Not 1 half of 1% will come here, because of this film. After DVD release of this film this national attention will be long gone and that will happen long before next year.If I've upset someone then all I can say is Iam not here to make everyone happy everyday of the week. And I am sure my efforts of promotion have laced more pockets then they will ever strip.

  • If you are so naive as to think you are doing yourself and your fellow islanders a favor with this frivolous film, think again. As I REALTOR, I am always up front and honest as to the perils of purchasing in a high erosion zone, however, when these homes were built that was not the case. If you own property on the island, you're shooting yourself in the foot! Be responsible, make a film about the surfers who pound the dunes endangering our egress/ingress route!

  • I hope whoever you are that you are 10% as strong about keeping the beaches open to ORV and pedestrian access as you are about making this film out to be something it's not.The access loss will result in 1 million times the loss,as opposed to a spoofing of a movie. And if you have a problem with surfers you should ensure that some property becomes public lots with responsible access in the areas deamed high traffic,S-turns,North of Buxton, etc.

  • Although this may seem like a "fun" video, it's people's homes and investments you're making light of. You've taken what was the best thing to happen to this island, a film and turned it into something that may damage livelihoods dramatically. Perhaps you thought you were being smug, I fail to see the humor in this situation.

  • This is the light everyone should pay attention too.I live here and I am just as affected as the next man.I don't wish anyone's property harm, but it is a fact if you build on sand,on top of a barrier Island that is known for Nor easters and Hurricanes. If you cannot have some fun with this then people should not buy, sell or live here. And,I wonder how many Realtors tell their oceanfront clients.."You could loose this in the blink of an eye",before they sign the contract

  • Great job Rob (as usual!)

  • Nice footage!
