NASA is just a brain vacuum so the brains can be cleanly pulled from the vacuum bag and used by the military. Instead of complaining about NASA's budget, consider the military which is the real focus of resources. NASA promotes science fiction-like fantasies to collect money and political support from tax payers, brains from scientists and engineers. The military is what ends up using most of the resources that get pulled in.

I do not wish to sound too callous here YourTMND, but the federal government funds basic scientific and medical research -- including space exploration -- because it is not something that most individual people or companies have the money to fund.

Feel free to move to some socialist country if you'd like their government to pay for -- and make all the decisions -- about your health care and other needs for you.

I don't understand how this proves any point other than the one I put forth. Indeed the Federal government provides funding to NASA and medical companies, individuals suppy that money and through the process of voting and popular appeal they influence (most of the time)how that money is spent. Simple stuff really. I'm not against space exploration in the slightest, just wasteful spending, which is existant in all extensions of our government. Especially in times of dire need back on our planet.
