All we have in this days are more than a ton of souless metal guitarists, all of them playing pretty much the same and trying to impress us with their velocity .I wish that they could do that Mr. Speedy does, but maybe they can´t.
@MrElliotRocker Oh yeah you totally nailed it. I love going to listen to one form of music being bashed by some clown such as yourself. Music is about expression. Generally in metal you want the music to sounds mean. One way to do that is by playing fast. As a guitar player who loves shredding I must say this to you. I'm not trying to impress pricks like you or anybody else so get off your high horse and listen to what you like to listen to.
I have a recording of my father playing bass in 1954 with Frank "Dizzy" Meade doing this tune. I wish I could find out more on "Dizzy", his playing was mind-blowing.
Your dad and my dad played in a group called "The Pioneer Ranch Boys" in the early 50's and toured the Southern Tier area on NY state and northern PA. "Dizzy" Meade played anything with strings... a very good fiddler too. But it was his guitar playing that was off the charts great!! Is he still alive ? The last I knew he was in Florida.
I have a few pictures of the Pioneer Ranch Boys, which one is your dad? We used to hear lots of stories of all the bands and the players in them growing up. Dad passed away in 2003 and I miss him, but him being gone has given me the chance to listen even more closely to the music I grew up listening to. Sitting in bars watching him play, carrying his equipment whenever and where ever. An original roadie! I have lots of tapes, reel-to-reel, cassettes and 78RPM records. Dad is on alot of them.
I had the great pleasure of knowing Speedy personally for many years. He was a kind, gentle, thoughtful person besides being the greatest guitar picker I've ever heard. He's gone to that great Jubilee in the sky, and we will not see his like again soon!
I've never heard of this guy before, but I can honestly say his guitar picking and playing is absolutely stunning! Especially for whenever this was filmed! Newer guitarists should check this guy out and his recordings! He has lightning-fast fingers playing lead guitar! That is a great and classic clip! Loved watching it and I will look into recordings by this guy because this is awesome stuff as I'm a guitarist as well, and I wish I could play half as good as this guy! Amazing!
This is my grandfather I am Shirley Jeans daughter please tell us how we might be able to obtain copies of these clips of papaw I am only seeing some of these for the first time and I really miss him so much thank you Laura Taylor

I've been posting links to various vintage country videos on facebook and would like to report that Speedy has picked up a small group of new fans.
Does anyone know if there is an anthology of recordings featuring him?

Could anyone tell me where or how I might be able to find CDs or LPs of Speedy Haworth? Did he ever make any? Solo or with a group?
Thanks
