  • The polar bear's name is Charlie?

  • a polar bear would be able to take a bulldog for real any day.

  • what a classic!!!

  • I remember that polar bear was later named Maxie and became Chilly's friend.

  • would u believe this is only time tex avery & michael maltese teamed up on a 'toon?

  • That polar bear is a pretty darn good musician!

  • The dog yawning always gets me... I mean, the whole thing's hilarious, but that bit makes me chuckle especially.

  • The dog yawning... I rewatched it about three or four times.

  • Who did you feel sorry more for:

    1. The Old Man - Having to hear "rock-a-bye baby" in the Arctic over and over again for 20 years.

    2. The polar bear - Getting hurt in the process trying to get some fish, and getting bitten by the mean old dog.

    3. Chilly Willy - The Antagonist

    4. The guard dog - Having the addiction to bite a polar bear in the ass, guarding the fish load in the process. However, he chooses not to eat the penguin. I wonder why?

  • Michael Maltese and Tex Avery - Uncle Walter (never "Walt"!) turned 'em loose!

  • Great flick...great friggin' flick..Chilly Willy and Smedley... hot to death.

The pit and the polar bear should do Letterman together..they're friggin' awesome.

    Chilly Willy 0wnz

  • I love it when he twats him with the clarinet. Brilliant!

  • Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo funny. =>

  • This toon is an icon of my childhood. Thank you so much for this post. BTW, DOES ANYONE KNOW THE LINES OF THE CHORUS?!?!?!

  • huge !! :))

  • these LANTZ - AVERY jobs are still undoubtedly the work of the TEXAN GAGMASTER, ----but SOMETHING is slightly amiss........SCOTT BRADLEY'S lush score, for one thing, and M-G-M'S overall superior production standards...........still not bad at all, however.

  • Somehow, this is the saddest ending I ever saw in a cartoon. The rest, of course, is hysterically funny.

  • I haven't seen this classic in such a long time! It had me in tears from laughing so hard.

  • Didn't a Bugs Bunny cartoon revisit Chilly Willy?

Either way, this was great. Not nearly his best but great nonetheless.

  • hhehehehehehehehehe so funy i hope their is more

  • precious, absolutely precious.

  • "Sing it to me again, will ya' Charlie?".

I can't think of any better way for Tex Avery to end his tenure as a theatrical cartoon director than this

one. It was nominated for an Academy Award, too!

  • Tex Avery is pure GENIUS! Even in his Post MGM Studios period he was still making great toons elsewhere like with this Universal toon.

  • I love Tex Avery cartoons!! :-)

  • So many hilarious moments. Insane cartoon.

  • XD! Poor Guy. But Chilly Willy is just so friggin' hilarious! Great Vid, man, Great Vid!

  • I used to watch Chilly Willy, and I liked this one. I like the ending when the dog said "Sing it to me, will you Charlie?" lol

  • Oh dear lord, that gag at 1:54 to 2:00 mark was so overused. Tex Avery used that gag in some of his cartoons during the 50's. During that time, Hanna/Barbera also used that gag in Tom and Jerry cartoon, "Royal Cat Nap". I kinda feel bad for Tex though. His cartoons from the early 40's through the early 50's were his best.

    Great Chilly Willy cartoon though.

  • I love the dog!!!

  • Tex Avery [is] a TRUE GENIUS! I love all of his MGM cartoons! You can definitely see his style in this one! Fast-whitty-outragous-sany gags! Post more!!

  • greatness! I just hope the Hitler censors don't pull it.

  • this is my first chilly willy cartoon yay!
