He always plays the same licks. He is constantly repeating himself. He used to be a great player in the 60's. He's basically a "local" talent now. Boring stuff. There is no passion in his playing, no matter how much he winces. He is doing it just for the money. He is a fake bluesman. His singing annoys me. The insolent tone he gets on his Stratocasters suits him just fine. You make me sick, Clapton. Retire, you has-been.
If life was a curve Clapton hit his peak as a blues player during this period of his life. NO ONE puts a solo together like this guy. Tasty and authentic and emotional. Just brilliant.
I agree with you that EC was fantastic during the Nothing but the Blues tour 94-95 , but try listen to EC " Derek and the Dominos - Live at the Fillmore" recorded back in 1970, it will blow your mind !
@kinggreenbaum1966 Mate he is better now than back then. This performance was round about the starting point of his recovery. his playing is faultless here
This is what I love about the blues...no catchy look, no glittery BS, just damn good music. I love how Clapton, Gilmore, etc. can play for millions of people and dress no better if they were playing in their basement on a Saturday afternoon. No BS, just music.
@cfg7777 It feels like you're out of your body. Nothing matters - problems, doubts, pains -, it's just you feeling as you are the sound itself, spreading to all directions and coming back into you. You close your eyes and see the darknes, and open them to face you smiling at yourself. A second is an eternity and one hour just a milisecond.

UNBELIEVABLE !!! Beside his playing, which nobody can come close to, his voice has developed into a real blues singer. This video, is Clapton at his best, for sure...
There used to be a picture of a wall in England and someone had spray painted "Clapton is GOD" on that wall. In the corner of the picture a dog was pissing on the wall, which Eric was all to pleased to point out.
We are mortals all, but Eric can sure play the blues.
This is as blistering and passionate as one can find here. You can scream about all of the fast players and how great it is that the black pioneers were more real. This man opened the door for millions to learn about those pioneers. He has given them the stage for all to know them and hear their gift. This is not a selfish man but a blessed one. His talent and humility is special. Clapton is as good as you will find.
Welcome to the church of Blues! Today we study the majesty that is Prophet Clapton. As we pass the liquor Sacrament, thank the Lords of Blues and surrender your soul to that which is the awe of Clapton. Peace and great sex to you all!
Blistering blues from the GREATEST blues guitarist, he's really, really turned onto it in this concert. I saw him many, many times but this is just astonishingly fucking brilliant.
He's wearing his fighting clothes. They probably had all kinds of neat stuff for him to wear and he said nope It's a T-shirt night. I need to feel loose.
Fuck Clapton. Fuckin hot fire my ass. If hot fire is a warm glass of milk at bedtime maybe. You damn cattle want to see what real blues music looks like?? search "Hound Dog Taylor" and watch the black and white live performances. Old drunk black guy, past his prime, extra finger, cheap japaneese guitar, old sears amp, trying to rip the fuckin strings off, and ripping you a new asshole. That will leave you satisfied.
@DanielParry1993 Hahaha. If you think this old bloated washed up hack is God then you must have a dull ass taste in music. It just really makes me sad that people think this is blues. Clapton ripped off all the real bluesmen like The Hound and many, many others , tamed the music, and now is a big racist on top of it all!! I personally gaurantee you, if you search "Hound Dog Taylor" , and watch any of the live black and white performances, you will not be satisfied with this anymore.
Oh my God, that old man can still play that thing. Sometimes I think he's slowed a bit, and it would be his god-given right to do so. But all you have to do is watch this clip, feel your pulse and blood pressure rise, and you know -YOU FUCKING KNOW- EC still has it. All of it.
Man, who is playing bass on this? I would kill to be able to play bass like this! Check out 2.05 onwards. Whoever it is, he's a god. Subtle and sweet. Oh, and Clapton's pretty good too :).
AWESOME! This is from 1995 - Martin Scorcese's documentary. This is the year after 1994's "From the Cradle" album by E.C. For a more recent great You Tube, check out "Double Trouble- Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood MSG 02/28/2008"
EC is great in this performance, but i think he deserved his nickname back in the days when he was a member of John Mayall´s Bluesbreakers, Cream + Derek and the Dominoes.... If you are an EC fan, then buy Derek and the Dominoes "Live at the Fillmore", imo the best live-album he ever played with a strat.
All these guys are great. It's pretty foolish to say that "nobody" is even close to Clapton. If you hear EC talk about SRV, you'd think SRV was god. I know they are trying to be humble, but even EC admits being intimidated by SRV, noting how blues just flowed thru him with no end, he never got lost, and he never ran out. EC is awesome, but putting him alone on his own pedestal is just crazy talk
Amazing guitar! Eric is about the best ever in this genre of music. YouTube also has "Groaning the Blues" of this same era. Check out his versions of "Double Trouble", "Voodoo Chile", and the 2004 Crossroads Festival of "I Shot the Sheriff"
How anybody could complain about this, is beyond me !!! What fuckin more do want ?? Specifically, can you do any better? Buddy Guy mentions that Clapton is one of the best... Clapton says essentially the same thing about Buddy Guy....if you read the interviews in Guitar Player and Rolling Stone, for example.
For a white guy from Great Britain...this man sure knows how to play the blues!
This goes to show that soul has no ethnic or geographic boundaries. It's a shame to lose people like SRV, Hendrix, and Randy Rhoads....but I'm certainly glad people like Clapton are still around.
Since I had to scroll thru 37 pages of comments to post mine, I guess that says something for the man. I seen a lot great players live, multiple times, sometimes your more ON than others, you can tell he was ON for this show.
@mpmlopes Comments like that upset Clapton very much. Are you aware of that? Eric is so humble of a guy, that he doesn't even think that his renditions are all that good.
@sohcsarewicked .. all great players agreed.. many tecnically and musically better informed than EC and he's ahppily admit that but it's not a contest.. Eric has a touch than few can do + great voice
@The12Child Funny thing you think so. I think this is one of the best sounding guitars ive ever heard. I own both a les paul and a stratocaster and i must say, for distorted blues, nothing beats a strat. But i guess, every man to his taste :P
@The12Child I've never heard anything bad about the neck joint so i dont know really. All i can say is that i havent had any trouble at all. I think its a great quality guitar in that price range. Definately comparable to my fender roadworn 60s strat, in terms of quality.
Clapton is an artist not a competitor....he not only translated the fabulous black blues players for a new audience but he also created new genres of guitar playing. His best playing combined unprecedented technique with genuine soul and emotional. There are many fine guitarists but too few true artists.
"contests are for athletes, this is music" people should'nt pick and choose which musicians are better, they should put them in a larg room and let them create a huge musical orgie of amazingness, also clapton just doused this song in soul and shot it out full blast out of that strat right into my ears, didn't know i could shoot sum out of my ears scince about 3 minutes ago =]
anybody that palys a instrument pays there dues and is able to let there personality and msg be channeled through ther instrument is a god if we all played the same it would be boring the secret is to play what your hear t tells you to play emointiomly let your personality come out but remember you got to pay you dues dedication and a good ear
@snakkajak Clapton is NOT God, even HE says that you idiot, he has a GOD GIVEN TALENT, He's an awesome person and guitarist, but he is not God. NUFF SAID
I am seriously so fuking sick and tired of people comparing whos the best and all this shit. If you put that much energy into learning guitar yourself maybe you'd be the best by now.
well ''best'' and ''most populair'' are often tangled he is without a doubt the most populair guitar player and their can only be one number 1 and that is Buddy Guy !

you dont have to play fast fingers in guitar playing,.because fast
fingers will take you only hours of practice,.but the feeling of
blues music will take you years and even decades to get thru
it..blues is easy to play but it is hard to feel..its not how fast your finger is,it is how you play the note..thats why eric
clapton is i think one of the best guitarist in the world.

i agree with that above comment here. all this comparing who's better then who etc is futile.

@sohcsarewicked .. all great players agreed.. many tecnically and musically better informed than EC and he's ahppily admit that but it's not a contest.. Eric has a touch than few can do + great voice

This has to be one of his finest performances from "Nothin but the Blues" which has to be some of his greatest work! Incredible !

The12Child 1 year ago
@The12Child If eric clapton thinks that feder is his guitar. I believe hes right. After all he is Eric Clapton, he knows his guitars!
jimbobsmajor 1 year ago
@The12Child Funny thing you think so. I think this is one of the best sounding guitars ive ever heard. I own both a les paul and a stratocaster and i must say, for distorted blues, nothing beats a strat. But i guess, every man to his taste :P
wainerkorven 1 year ago
@wainerkorven Could be men. By the way, Is Eiphone neck joint shitty?
The12Child 1 year ago

I am seriously so fuking sick and tired of people comparing whos the best and all this shit. If you put that much energy into learning guitar yourself maybe you'd be the best by now.

I can resolve that. I'm the best! *S*

well ''best'' and ''most populair'' are often tangled he is without a doubt the most populair guitar player and their can only be one number 1 and that is Buddy Guy !
