  • Went from mix tape from LP to CD to ipod-still epic as ever-very close synth drops and warbles to that of modern day electro-my 1st electronica love after Kraftwerk

  • simply beautiful!!!

  • es un disco que no cabe en si mismo

  • exentrificante, hoy cualquiera puede hacerlo, pero no

  • after 2000 years this sounds good at the same time.

  • @armandin2048 Might be an idea if you keep your vile thoughts to yourself ! Two very talented artists and how you can use the word c***s when describing them shows your true ignorance ! R.I.P Mick Karn x The world is a sadder place following your untimely death x

  • Darn good stuff.

  • Pete Murphy was beautiful! Good voice too!

  • Shivers down my spine....At first I was going to agree with shinysynthcity and thought, why didnt he play bass live on this one? But now I think its good we got to see Mick the Synth Player live. I remember him saying he had that Oberheim "but had to get something else..." around 87 or so. Stick with the Oberheim, it sounds good here and presumably later on "Dreams of Reason" also.

  • Great music, what are listening the youngs today?

  • the ONLY live performance of this great band, and one of only two tv appearances that they did!

A very short lived project, the new ep coming out in oct 2011 should be great(micks last rec work)

  • Nunca había tenido ka oportunidad de ver un video de Dalis Car... muy bueno

  • Amazing video! Though I wish Mick would have played the bass instead of the keys

  • MIck is possibly one of the reasons why I started playing bassguitar many years ago. It is very sad to know he has passed away. I loved this album when it came out and I am still listening to it nowdays. He was a genius and a real artist.

  • Ooops, "still not able to see the SUN"... also, this version the first line is cloudy, before "she make a point "

I love Mick Karn and his many projects and am so glad to see many others comment on his video clips. Not to take away from Peter Murphy or David Sylvian, but really, Mick's bass is what drew so many to Dali's Car and Japan. I miss him and hope indeed that Peter and Mick managed to produce Dali's 2 before he was too sick. RIP.

  • @1redwhale Strange that you should say that, considering that Peter Murphy's fame was from Bauhaus, and also that David Sylvian and Richard Barbieri have been Japan's major success stories since the break up. Karn's bass playing was stunning though.

  • As she makes a point he makes a point of reference.

She is very cold indeed. Nothing ever happens in his box.

Buddha speaks quietly in the night. Can you see what you know?

Buddha says there's no wrong or right, you just reap what you sow.

Still not able to see the door, desperately looks for the door.

Blinded by the fool inside, everything is happening in his box.

Buddha is giggling out of sight, There's no such thing as shame!

With a light blow the box has gone, he's with himself again.

    oh

  • Is anybody could write me the lyrics of this "his box" song ? I plan to make a cover of it and can't find the exact words (my english is too uncertain and i won't mistake). noblogomusic.myspace.fr thanks a lot.

  • is pete murphy still sat in that wind tunnil flogging cassette tapes? rip mick.

  • Despite the Dalis car album being dismissed by critics, on its release as 1 of the worst records ever made, those of us who listened with open minds & the wool removed from our lug 'oles knew differently! This was a record that paid no attention to then current trends and made no attempt to placate fans of either Japan or Bauhaus. In fact, even to this day it still sounds like nobody else that I'm aware of.

  • @MisAnnThorpe Mick Karn died a poor man because he was a truly innovative and great artist like Vincent Van Gogh or Paul Verlaine. The problem is the mainstream don't get or embrace great art until it becomes fashionable. One day every music fan will learn how great Mick Karn's art is.

  • The genius is gone from this terrible world in which we reside, but the news was indeed true, there is a Dali's Car 2,"in the can" and the music will soon be released according to mickkarn.net.

May all of us fans make sure the new work sells in commercial quantities so as to provide Mick's wife and child with financial security through their lives. And also to show the world what a great artist Mick was.

  • I too only just found out about Mick's death. Extremely saddened by the news, especially since he was relatively young, and SO talented of course.

RIP Mick, your music brought pleasure to many.

  • great singer love his singing style...itz in the same vain as bowie...salam peter

  • classic ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • what ?

    Mick Karn dead ?

    holy fuck

    severe tragedy--

to google I go to get the low down

  • Wonderful video and song.. takes me back.. sad to see Mick is no longer with us, hope in the end, he found what he was looking for.. thanks for posting.

  • Imjust keep clicking on repeat, that gloopy bass line really hooks me now more than it did when I first heard it all those years ago. Great post, thanks

  • I just found out about his death--I live in Japan (irony of ironies) and one has to go to some lengths to encounter news about someone who is not really a household name. Nonetheless, Karn was a supreme talent and will sadly be missed.

  • Such wonderful bass on this song, why can't Mick be playing it in this performance? :\

Rest in peace Mick - next time we hear thunder in the sky, it's probably you playing that bass in heaven :)

  • @shinysynthcity oh i wasn't aware that mick karn died could u tell me when this was such a shame a great guy gone :(

  • Thanks Mick you will alway be the best, thanks for enriching my Life

  • RIP Mick, I have dreamt a lot listening the sound of the metaphysical sound of your fretless bass!

    Thanks!!!

  • Truly Great....... RIP Mick,,,,,,,,,

  • memories..... !

    all good

  • An ex- girlfriend loaned me this LP, she sprayed perfume on it so as it played i would think of her.........this of course was in 1985............we married later in life, it went to hell, but this takes me back to a simple time..........Mick, you will be missed

  • @DeeDeeRuhmone you should have done her in her bum

  • thank you; this is a fantastic live yummy thing

  • RIP Mick. A Genius

  • RIP Mick. You will be missed

  • Devastated......may you rest in peace & your music & style live forever

  • gutted....rip mick and thanks for the music

  • So sad R.I.P mick

  • RIP Mick

  • R.I.P. MIck

  • LA Weekly reports that Mick Karn, the bassist for the 1970s synth pop band Japan, has passed away as well. The Weekly cites a statement on Karn's official website (which is currently down) saying that Karn passed away this afternoon in London after fighting cancer. He was 52. Karn also worked with Peter Murphy, Kate Bush, and Gary Numan. (from pitchfork)

    immortal though.

  • Descansa en Paz . Mick

  • :( RIP

  • R.I.P. Mick

  • R.I.P Mick

  • RIP Mick

  • Rest in peace Mick... :o(

  • My first major music ear opener ...Japan...never thought id see the day one of them went.

  • A sad day - rip Mick

  • R.I.P Mick

  • @MultiKanut

he uses a wal bass ( fretless,of course ;) ) and a trace elliot equipment.

  • when i saw a few weeks ago they were making a new album can't wait to hear it get well mick

  • Karn & Murphy... what more could you ask for in life?

    An unmistakable sound!

    I love it.

  • @strangeparty Actually they are currently in the process of making a second Dali's Car.

  • be well soon mick. remember you mates and fans love you and want you around for a wee bit longer. you are a genius, and a great mate. i love you man.

  • Murph?? essa é a lei de Murph... Baixo fretless e coisa e tal. Dali´s Car é 3 bem estranho, então eu continuo nos 90´s

  • My love and thoughts are with you Mick x A true legend and even truer gentleman x

  • Pray this is true, but on mickkarn.net it is said Mick and Pete are to work on the lon awaited follow up!

  • damn cool but would rather have seen live bass playing from MK

  • best bass, ever

  • wow, never saw this at the time. 2 amazing talents together - couldnt have been better. Would have loved more from the pair.

  • This is so hypnotic...

  • HEAR HEAR - DONATE, HELP THE LIVING LEGEND NOW! WOULD YOU GIVE

MONEY TO VAN GOGH? WELL THEN, GIVE MONEY TO MICK KARN! AS MIDGE URE STATES "ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS". DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR ONCE b4 THIS INDUSTRY GOES DOWN THE TOILET. WHERE ARE THE LADY GAGA'S AND GOLDFRAPP'S NOW? ACTS WHO WOULD NOT EXIST WITHOUT THE INFLUENCE OF MICK KARN IMO!

  • Very cozy piece of music.

  • PLEASE GO TO MICK KARN .NET and donate to his cancer appeal

  • ugh can't sleep... oh, well, there's always musick <3

  • holy shit this is GOLD! beautiful. straight to favorites. THANKS FOR SHARING!

  • @lemsta007 That's kind of you to say, yeah, it is so sad to hear that Mick Karn is ill

  • some kind of superband

  • wow dali's car live,i've never seen this, you posted this video two yrs. ago?thanx.(Mick Karn played all instruments on this album) the other dude w/ curly hair handled drums/drum machines.Mick Karn is the fucking man.one incredible musician that can play everything.one thing he has admitted is that he can't sing and play bass at the same time,oh well...

  • @russelli1 Mick has terminal cancer go to his web page please

  • Mick Karn- COOL as ever!! Pete Murphy- NERNOID as ever!!! TeeHeeHee!!!!- And you KNOW its TRUE!!! Yeaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!! ;)

  • This may seem strange, but Peter Murphy reminds me of Rik Mayall....hmmm....

  • Murphy seems to be trying to out-sylvian Sylvian! But he just needed to be a bit more Bauhaus, maybe if they had a bit more patience and said 'fuck the sales', it would have been perfect, plus the suits were wicked.....

  • omg I'm in heaven

  • I loved this collaboration, Mick Karns gloppy, fat bass line. Hsve the album in pristine condition. Great tune to sample as well. Been playing this in my car today.

  • Peter's "Ahhhs" remind me so much of Daniel.

  • the drummer is Paul Vincent Lawford

  • hey, isnt that bassist from Japan?

  • Yes, Dalis Car was Peter Murphy and Mick Karn. It's a shame that they only stayed together long enough to record one album.

  • Dali's car was awesome wished they would of done more.

  • Who's the guy playing drums?

  • The drummer.

  • lol

  • Comment removed

  • Grandiosi!!!

  • Brilliant and of course unusual as one would expect from Karn and Murphy, love that gloopy Bass line, hypnotic. Love it

  • I'll use Peter Murphy for a fucking "napkin"!!!

  • My beautiful and loved Peter............

  • excellent

  • Dalis Car rules!!! "His box" is my favorite song from the album!!

But in general, the album kicks ass!

  • well, yeah you see him briefly. But its almost like he couldnt be there for this clip. Maybe they shot him separate?

  • Comment removed

  • that was Petes request, at least

  • uhhhh, where is Karn?

  • 58 secs

  • Comment removed

  • This is Pete as Mick Karn's lunchbox! Sounds like samples from porn money shots!

  • His box is empty, thats why he´s so grumpy!

  • Off course there´s no such thing as shame! He looks like a low class ,underfed renter in his Sunday best. Mick looks like the he just discovered that the tires were flat.

  • i love the look of utter coolness and stylish non-chalant on pete murphy's face as he walks on stage!

the dark makes him look almost goulish

i recall buying this all those years ago and ive still got the vinyl!! superb stuff

  • So Electro!

  • pragmatically! Excellent

  • Fabulous!

  • ;-)

  • The most amazing one-album band ever!!!

Who doesn't love Mick Karn's signature basslines and Peter Murphy's iconic vocals?

It's really the best of both worlds. Bauhaus and Japan are two of my favorite bands!

  • Agreed. Right there with Blind Faith.

  • @JohnnySwitchblade And now they are currently in the process of making a second album! For real. :D

  • Yes a common practice then, with new bands starting up all over the place with just a couple of members or so - a great labour and therefore money saving device !

Yazoo, Cocteau Twins, OMD are ones that spring to mind that used these.

  • very great album

  • What's the video called... ever seen any more about, would kill to get a copy, oh and any idea what vol. whistle test this clip is off?

  • I don't think this is live, sounds too close to the recorded version. I think they are miming. Never mind, excellent music.

  • Good music is out there, but you just have to look for it. Check out some college radio stations...they tend to play more unique music. It's great now that there is streaming audio.

  • Too much beauty.

Great musicians, grand performace - and a pair of the most amazing faces I`ve ever seen!

  • Totalmente de acuerdo!Vaya discazo!

Genial!!

  • Brilliant! Great song

  • I love this record and this is a great video and yes, it would have been great to see Mick Karn playing bass and hiring someone else to play keyboards.

  • Did anyone ever found out why they broke up??? The album kicked ass! But the secound could have been better!!!! Right? What happened?

  • i eard the album was a flop

  • How could it suck when it came to buying!! No one has good taste in music anymore!!

  • I just found Dali's Car and i love it, i love Peter Murphy.

    Cheers

  • Yah I love him too! I made two vids of him!;)

  • Bette Dillinger, be sure to check out Tones on Tail if you are not yet familiar with them. When Peter Murphy went on to do Dalis Car Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins went on to form Tones on Tail. Pick up their compilation album titled "Everything".

  • nothing will ever match the intense solid stlye of this

  • this is bout the coolest post ever on you yube, props!

  • This is SOooooo sexy!!!!

  • especially when YOU are dancing to it :P

  • Danceing to it together is best:P

  • It's a damn shame that Cornwall Stone is not on here as it's such an atmospheric track and not too unlike the mighty Japan..

Also would have been nice to see Mick Karn playing the bass on this track

  • This is fantastic.....Murphy and Karn!!! So passionate yet detached. Re: Music...you just have to look harder to find interesting music. It will never be easy to find.....Bauhaus and Dali's Car were brilliant experiments....that many discovered, but they never sold out stadiums. I found them like I did the obscure bands I like now.....by just keeping my eyes peeled. New music is there, it is just not sold by corporations.

    -Bette

  • Spoutsaint, You have posed a very excellent question!!! Is it beacause People becoming saturated with shit? I too bealeve that "music" has gone waaaaaaay downhill.

  • Music industry ... industry...is this ring a bell dear fella? That's why...

  • ADORO éste proyecto surrealista y dark....brutal!!!!! un 10!..Dali´s Car!!!!! joyita.

  • Dont forget to thank God for Mick Karn as well....geez the bass blows my mind...and you gotta love the Oberheim OBX just like Japan!

  • Very glad to hear/see this song here. This was one of my favorites ling time ago. Too bad that this fusion of brillant musicians did not last longer. And of course: bows to Peter :-)

  • peter murphy thank god for you. you are a true poet.

  • Peter Murphy takes my breath away! Beautiful song- thanks for posting it!

  • Dalis Car is epic, loved it, love it still!

  • Oooh! dreams of reason producing monsters before my very eyes!

  • O yes, are you a Japan fan too?

  • Bauhaus. and DAli'Car. is the fucking best. they should play them in the radio. im tired of most of all the new crap.. from all the time i have lisened to the radio. i have never heard them.

  • If they were to play bauhaus, tones, and dalis, on conventional radio, I would have to rethink the whole way I perceive reality as I know it. It's like being a member of an exclusive club, if everyone were to become a member, it wouldnt be so fun anymore.

  • What a great observation, seriously!

  • That it fantastic. You are so right.

  • How interesting to see members from two of the most excessive bands of the early 80s behaving, singing and dressing in such a restrained way! If I'd had the sound turned down while watching this video, I might have mistaken them for Roxy Music -- late 80s Roxy Music, that is ... great song. Very hypnotic.

  • i think the reason mick is playing keys on this is because the bass used mostly for this album (and others by mick) were recorded and played backwards for that cool effect. obviously couldn't be done live. and they definately did have sampling technology then - only very small samples though could be saved.

  • AnselTk1, you've got your songs confused. Mick isn't shown playing bass on this song because there are actually two simultaneous bass lines, in harmony (Mick double-tracked in studio). The song with the backward bass is "Artemis".

  • No - I dont think so. Listen to the attack and release on the bass line. It is very much reversed. I'm sure the bass track was doubled up though - another reason the bass wasnt played live here!
