  • When running my map with the event in HL2, I get this error in the console, and it won't load the map:

    FS: Tried to Size NULL filename!

    CModelLoader::Map_IsValid: No such map 'maps/Scene.bsp'

    map load failed: Scene not found or invalid

    Any idea why?

  • A lot of you had problems with loading a custom .vcd scene into hl2 ep2 version of hammer (can preview in hammer, but when running a map actors won't act in scene). Well Here's the solution:

    Open Faceposer, Load your scene, Click File -> Rebuild scene.image...

    After that you should see your scene working in game.

  • I get really confused around 5:08 because you've already prepared your out/inputs. When I use hammer and create that entity I don't see 2 inputs and outputs it's blank. And with the constant ummms it's hard to understand exactly what I'm suppose to be doing.

  • When you open up Source SDK, you go to the bottom section, choose The Orange Box for Engine Version, choose Team Fortress 2 as Current Game and then you have to go into the player folder and choose the model you want.

  • as far as I understood this you will have to make the lipsynching manually. Your computer won't be able to work out the lip movements automatically..

  • Im having a problem; in game, the scene plays incorrectly. Like, the speech is fine (im just using one from HL2) but the flex animations dont play correctly. gestures are fine as far as i can tell. thats cool music btw, nice tutorials

  • Help, my citizen is not ignoring my player push. I managed to stop him following me but even though i have the box ticked, he still runs away from me if i go near him.

  • I just found out the command for gmod and hl2 without making maps i tell everyone so thay don't bother you it's ent_fire !picker overideexpression scenes/name.vcd hope that helps now stop asking katana how and find out yourself.

  • I need help i do two things now i had it all done in hammer and then i test in hl2 it's perfect then i test in gmod and theres no lip synch or sound do i have to copy the sound and scene folders or soming into gmod for it to work or should i try making the map agein.

  • The VCD and sound files are not compiled into the map, so yes, you need to copy them over.

  • Thanks i needed to know also does the tf2 method work like if i type say in gmod garrysmod_vcd.test i think thats how the command goes i better watch the tf2 tut agein.

  • blehman: Same way as a sound or texture. There's a program called BSPzip that'll do it. (I'm not sure if scenes will work; I KNOW they won't in the 2007 engine)

    ps3vsreallybadfanboyname: Hammer is a tool in the Source SDK, and so is Face Poser.

    TOCDigitalySane: No, TF2 has it because I specifically requested it. Gmod has another command, which seems to semi-work.

  • There would be quite a lot of errors inherent with that. Yes, there is a console command to run the scene, but it strips out 60% of Face Poser's features. None of the professional uses of Face Poser ever really use Garry's Mod; it's just too unstable.

  • when i click browse to find the scene file, a whole list of pre-loaded scenes from hl2 and ep. 1+2 are shown, and i can't find my scene. where should i have saved my scene?

  • The same way you load sounds, first you need a "scenes" folder in whatever game your hammering/faceposing for (hl2/hl2/scenes for example) save it there, then you simply type in the entry like you did for faceposer sound.

  • Its free if you have HL2 or any Half-life 2 sort of game. You go to your "Tools" tab in steam, and download the Source SDKs. Then you load up the source SDK and select engine version, then the game you want, then "face poser" Basicly, its free.

  • I`m running the map within HL2 and the NPC finally appears. But here`s a new problem.

    I did exactly (!) what you did in the tutorials 1, 2 Part 1 and 2, but the NPC does not stand still, he cries "Gordon Freeman" and such stuff, when I enter the map. Also, when I click on the Keypad it shows "Error" at the Keypad and nothing happens. Any suggestion?

  • "Error" is the default for the keypad as it is a prop. Onpress it changes it to that texture and beeps. Sounds like you need to gag your NPC_citizen and put "Ignore player" on in the flags, as shown in the tutorial :)

  • There are no citizens in CS:S. What's happening makes sense. You NEED to run the map in a game that contains npc_citizens, such as Half-Life 2. They could show up in Hammer based on CS:S's fgd files containing that info, but it doesn't mean anything.

  • Me again. I analysed the console log after loading the map. I found this:

    Attempted to create unknown entity type npc_citizen!

    Can't init npc_citizen

    I try to figure out now, how to solve this problem.

  • Well I think now CS:S is NOT the problem, because the npc_citizen is appearing in hammer. Any suggestion?

  • Maybe you misunderstood me. I bought Half-Life 2 as a retail box (CS:S was implemented in there), as it was released in 2004. What I meant with "I`m modding with CS:S" is, that I chose the CS:S setting in the Source SDK (you know at the bottom of the window, which appears when you load the SDK, it says "Current Game:" there).

    But I will try to choose "Half-Life 2" there and see if it works.

    I did everything exactly like in the tutorial, but I have a problem: the npc does not spawn in the map after compiling. I used a npc_citizen, like in your tutorial.

    Btw. I`m modding with CS:S and not HL2. Is that a problem. And I'm using -ep1 as far as I now. I do not own Episode 1 or 2.

  • There's really not much you can facepose with if you don't own HL2 or one of its sequels. Sorry.

  • uh, I have a problem and you might be able to help. I make a face poser .vcd and I dont know where to put it. and in-game it says the .vcd file is missing. so where do i put the .vcd file, oh and im using the EP2 engine.

  • You don't. HL2's scenes are far more scripted out to work with that tool. Most STOOLs in Gmod are ill-suited to work with custom VCDs.

  • I'm confused about the logic choreographed scene. you say not to use the "target" things. So you don't put the guy's name anywhere in the scene's dialogue box? how does it know who to make speak the scene?

  • If the Actor name in the choreography is the same as the NPC's name in its own properties, it'll use that one. You can also make it slightly dynamic by setting !target1 etc in the logic choreographed scene to be the character; as well as changing the actor name in the choreoraphy file to be !target1.

  • haven't beaten it, but i don't really care, all i care is how alyx becomes unconcious in the first place, so "so-and-so iswhatever" spoilers don't bother me SNAPE KIKLLED DUMBLEDORE WHO IS A HOMO!

  • You can put it in gmod, but a number of its features will be broken. Use hammer; it's not as daunting as it seems.

  • Yup! Look for a program called vmex. It lets you "decompile" a BSP, and turn it into a Hammer-ready VMF.
