The levels look like they're in a different order than the NES version. The visuals are beautiful in this version, but I prefer the good old midi music of the NES version. Still one of the best NES scores of all time! ^_^
@MikeRoePhonicsMusic Really?? She was only 19? That's incredible! :D And you're right about the sounds. Really, no game soundtrack is complete without all the accompanying sound effects. XD
@scir91 God I put so much money in this game as a kid, was really fast paced for its day. FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! LOL. I agree Radiant Silvergun was THE SHIT.
I like that this version has intelligible english. Other than that, the NES version wins hands down. I recall the US version in the arcades, but it was so tough to beat, I settled on playing the NES version.
On a another note, for some reason, regardless of how well their games play, Konami seems to always have musical scores that rock!
I know that Vic Viper has a blue and grey/silver color scheme, and Lord British is red and white. So, that's why I think P1 is Vic Viper and P2 is Lord British.
Spent an hour looking for this game. Popped into my head that I played it at the convenience store as a kid. Was convinced it was Gradius, but the organic level at the START of the game is a dead giveaway. THANKS SO MUCH.
and salamander (the one i have) and life force are so different from each other. instead of collecting gradius symbols, you collect the actual items. laser gun for laser, circle thing for multiple, box thing for missile. and the stages looked so different
This is one of my all time favorites! I never actually played the arcade game, and I have to say that while the graphics are perhaps marginally better than the nintendo life force, I like the levels and bosses of nintendo's version more. But the music on the arcade game kicks ass!!
isnt this game the sequel to gradius i playes a game like this in england but it wasnt caled life force it was called slander or something and the sun stage was red
The game was called Salamander in the U.K. The way you collect power-ups was different. You could get instant Speed ups, missiles etc. Not sure if it's a "proper" sequel to Gradius (sometimes known as Nemesis).
no no no... LifeForce US had all the same graphics and everything of Salamander, only every stage had stage 1's background in a different color, and the extra voice overs. JP LF changed the graphics around.
I liked the idea of implementing the Gradius powerup system, and the graphics are much more appropriate than the original (considering the game's supposed to take place inside an organism.)
You know what, Akutare, so do I! And quite true, too!!! :D ! It was *really* got me inspired BIG in making shmups in the first place, and the US version of Life Force had some of the same voices in the arcades as this Japan-only version.
I first seen the US version of this at a local ShopRite in 1986, and the flames from Stage 3 are MUCH better there with the web background!!! ^-^
the USA version of lifeforce arcade is different to the japanese one.. It doesn't have the power up system like this.. its infact the same powerup system as Salamander but with the above graphics.
I absolutely love how it immediately transitions stage 1 to stage 2

Oh man I played the NES version so many times I actually had to replace my console AND the controller. True story.
This game is as addictive as crack!

@TrelliaChan I like the NES sounds more as well. The composer, Miki Higashino, was about 19 when she wrote the music for this game! THAT is skill!

the sound on the arcade version is kinda annoying, its like that on bionic commando too.

I prefer the NES game's music. Same songs, but they sounded better on the NES to me.

I love how you interrupted the announcer in stage two by getting the laser.
"Kidney Laser!"
poopskinTheLiar 2 years ago
This version looks kickass. I hope they release this to the virtual console Arcade.
Roxxxxxxxbottttter 2 years ago
Also, the announcer is suprisingly helpful.
poopskinTheLiar 2 years ago
Especially in the fire area when he shouts out "Active flame." Some kind of warning would have been helpful in the nes version.
Roxxxxxxxbottttter 2 years ago
@Roxxxxxxxbottttter Actually, he's saying "Acid Flame!". yeah, it would have been nice in the NES port..
poopskinTheLiar 2 years ago
Why is Zelos Force telling you how to defeat itself*?
*Zelos Force is the announcer -- Why else would the announcer scream "BWAAAAAAGH!" after you defeat Zelos?

Didn't Player 2 control Lord British?

Heh. "Destroy the center membrane" is sort of a contradiction. The membrane is the "skin" of something, and your target is the core. <.<

But in this. They flames were called "Acid". Maybe the Dragon was a huge Tape Worm?
