@xxxTheFakexxx Nope. Both use MLC manufactured to the same tolerances. Both will last pretty much the same amount of writes. However better wear-leveling firmware, more unallocated sectors and compression on the Vertex 3 means it would last longer than a Samsung.

Either way, both drives are going to last easily 10 years on normal usage, so why even worry about it. In 10 years you will have already replaced it with a much bigger drive.

@DDRandGYMNASTICSboth Depends on the bus speed. For instance, if you had it connected via USB 2, installation would be much slower. USB 3 would be more than suitable. Same thing with Firewire 400 and 800. Your best solution as of this point would be either USB 3 or Firewire 800.
