  • Cliff is the best!!

  • and a mailman

  • Best Cheers clip ever!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • When did they use those categories in a real Jeopardy! episode?

  • 3:14 You can see his answer. At 3:20, you don't.

  • @moneyplays17 : that's what i was going to say.

  • I knew that Cliff Clavin was overconfident on Final Jeopardy! He sounds like that pig on Toy Story Series which he did that voice.

  • @ThePatrickinator he is that guy who did the voice of the pig.

  • NEW VIDEO:

    "Obama QUITTING! Going on JEOPARDY!"

    youtube DOT com/watch?v=qYg9ByKwhTo

    at ObamaSnippetsDotCom

  • Woody's first of two visits to the Jeopardy set, though Gloria did a tad better than Cliff.

  • Wonder how he would have done on "Wheel of Fortune"?

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, on hi-def TV/computer monitor you can see the $3300 on the lady's scoreboard. If you were watching this episode at the time it was originally aired (ie - for the first time), you wouldn't have seen the mistake. I have heard that a LOT of older movies are horrible to watch on DVD/HD, because it used to be easy to "hide things". But now, you can pause and get a crystal clear image. Ironically, the place where this is most obvious is in Faces Of Death, where they had zero budget. Just sayin.

  • And Norm facepalms at 4:10

  • what?...they're not in the bar?

  • that was funny

  • one goof on a website said

as alex says "you have 5 seconds to write down answer", how could cliff write down "three people who've never been in my kitchen" in 5 seconds?

it's oblivious he just had more time.

(incase you're wondering, the "what is" is written before the 30 seconds clue, a person told me that)

  • @ashcarl116: It wasn't pre-written when I was on Jeopardy, and that was in 2004. They did tell us to write that down as soon as Alex had completed the clue and then contemplate the remainder of the answer.

  • @pegasigirl2010 I've never played on the show myself, but a person did tell me this "before the clue is given contestants are to write down first part to save time"

  • Ahhhh, ruff. Just the way your mother likes it.

  • Scripted sitcom mocking reality television

  • A while ago, Jeopardy used those same six categories on Double Jeopardy, and I think it was during either Ken Jennings' reign or the Ultimate Tournament of Champions.

  • You bet...22 thousand big ones?

  • @mariofan17 You bet it all Cliff why would you do something like that?

  • @BriSchwa82 yes I know that was his downfall, trying to get the highest score possible. god in enormous lock, he SHOULDV'E bet 15399, if he was going for large score without being caught.

  • In June 2009, someone actually had the audacity to write as their answer for Final Jeopardy, "...who are three people who have never been in my kitchen?"

The reference was not acknowledged by Alex Trebek.

  • @SamonMarquis thats because it was far from the first time. quite a few did that when they didnt know the answer, he acknowledged many. Now. I am told, contestants are asked not too.

  • Hey, at 4:22 Agnes's total is back up to $3,300.

  • and the categories are ...civil servants, stamps from around the world, mothers and sons, beer, bar trivia, and finally, celibacy....LMAO

  • I love Cheers, I watched it so many times. However, I totally dislike the character Cliff, and the actor's voice, so freaking obnoxious.

  • And a mailman. Funny

  • @luigicamp69 That is the point.

  • I haven't seen this in years! This is great, thanks for posting!

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • oh course the joke is that cliff did so awesome(score would be 44 000 present-day). but in the end he bet everything (I guess going for the record) and failed the final question! and one of two opponets still had money and won. I feel very sorry

  • Obvious to who!? LOL

  • what does trebek say when cliff is looking at other players writing?

  • @IsmaelandLugi21 "Cliff, you're not looking over there to see what Agnes is writing down, are you?"

  • @Kwpolska what did he say that?

  • @IsmaelandLugi21 yeah.

  • @Kwpolska why did alex say that?

  • @IsmaelandLugi21 Because he looked at Agnes' podium?

  • @Kwpolska is he copying?

  • @IsmaelandLugi21 Please watch the whole segment and understand it. The Agnes' answer was "Who are [names of three people]?" and Cliff's was "Who are three people who never been in my kitchen?"

  • @Kwpolska I watch it. And now here is the host of jeopardy, Beau Handsome!

  • This is lost on me. I've never seen the old show "Cheers". Do I have to be familiar with that show to understand this?

  • @rslitman Evidently.

  • lmfao at that "a doctor...a lawyer...AND, a MAILMAN."

  • i hadn't watched this for like 22 years. ah memories.remeber how huge cheers was? it was huge.

  • Cliff

  • no Cliff. Tony Curtis Passed Away yesterday didn't you dead the news?

  • @shaneinkster You have to remember this was from 1990 and Tony was still alive then.

  • Anyone notice the bad editing at 4:21? That camera shot comes RIGHT before Trebek says "Agnes, $400 is not a big total..." haha

  • Where was the swooshing sound when Johnny said "This... is... "Jeopardy!"?

  • @samsticka That's the globe effect that was used in the intro back then. It's mentioned earlier in the episode.

  • @bbbbbbbbbbbbb100 Yes, I know that. But I'm talking about the swooshing sound. It didn't sound when Johnny said "This... is... "Jeopardy!"

  • this was classic episode. I like at the end when Alex Trebek shows up at Cheers and makes up the story, because Cliff scares him and Norm says he does me as well.

  • Cliff Lost on Jeopardy!.....Baby oooooooh oooh ooh oooh

  • Let's Go Yankees !!!

  • @five56six

no you mean Let's Go Blue Jays !!!

  • This still makes me laugh. Oh my.

  • @konigsbergr I lost it at the "Celibacy" category. So funny......

  • I love how Cliff wishes he would be in the Tournament of Champions.

  • A few years later on the real "JEOPARDY!", a contestant who, in the lead, bet nothing, wrote "Who are three people who have never been in my kitchen" and Alex Trebek really cracked up!

  • Did anyone notice that Cliff's answer was revealed on his screen before Alex Trebek mentioned it? And then it was erased, only to be revealed again after Alex took Cliff's jacket off and read it.

  • @ruok9c I did too

  • 4:23 Agnes' board is back to 3300

  • @dmanninja456 Shit...I totally saw that and was going to point that out.....nice catch

  • Cheers at its finest. John Ratzenberger was a great actor!

Minor goof at 4:22 - Agnes' total says "3300" instead of "400"...

  • $22,000 Big Ones?!

  • @MrGameshowfan If I EVER get on a show, I'm putting the words "Big Ones" in my final answer!!!! LOL...

  • one of the finniest Cheers

  • At least, for Cliff, he looked pretty sharp in that suit.

  • I wish the last scene in the show would have been uploaded too. I love it when Trebeck walks into Cheers unexpectantly and tells Cliffs he agrees with him and that he will quit Jeopardy because of it. Cliff talks him out of it and thinks he has saved Jeopardy. Trebeck was only covering up for accidentally coming into Cheers. Trebeck: "You know, Cliff scares me." anorm: 'You too?" Clasic scene.

  • @Happy2BNRoundRock Yeah, that was a great scene!

  • Happy Birthday Cliff!!

  • Comment removed

  • was this SNL?? and what year was this???

  • @TheIzobo1 no it was on the later years of cheers

  • was this SNL?? and what year was this???

  • they annouce a doctor, a lawyer and a mailman. You hear people laughing when he's say mailman.

  • from Weird Al

  • damn this was a long time ago!

  • Notice when Alex addresses Alice as the winner with $400, her board actually reads $3300

  • Good eye, looks like just one shot had the wrong amount

  • I love that guy in all the pixar movies.

  • Did this wager loss happen to anyone of you (including video games/other(s) games even with play money)?

  • i like how the doctor and the lawyers names written all nice and cliffs looks like a third grader lmao

  • "A chief of neuro surgery at boston medical, a lawyer and mother of six, and... a mailman lol"

  • Did this wager loss happen to anyone of you (including video games)?

Ohh and btw What is the name of this episode of Cheers?

  • @Fira777 It's called "What Is... Cliff Clavin?"

  • "who are three people that have never been in my kitchen."

Man this show had great writing.

  • cliffy's dream board.

  • The first of two times that Woody Harrleson played a member of the audience in Jeopardy!

  • twice...i remember him on The tonight with cliff and his mom and norm

  • what is, "Whie men can't jump?"

  • where can i find where cliff trys stand up and always says whats up with that

  • Yeah, I need to have that.

  • Why is Cliff making that face at 1:06?

  • to alwas see it 1:04

  • If I was him, I would have said The Piggy Bank from Toy Story.

  • 4:21, the female contestant's score reads as $3300, when it should read $400.

  • Alex can say anything and not act out of character.

  • If this was a real episode of Jeopardy, and if Cliff had been right, it would have been a new single-day winnings record at the time.

  • Notice at 4:22 her score is back to 3300, then 5 seconds later it goes back to 400.

  • You could have watched it on KDOC @ 6:30 P.M. last night.

  • That's awesome that it looks like they used the actual Jeopardy set and production to tape this!

  • Best Cheers episode ever!

  • You know you're getting old and fat when Norm no longer looks so old and fat, and Woody looks kinda like a kid.

  • lol This was a brilliant idea.

  • 3:17...the answer is already on his screen!!!

  • good eye!!!

  • "who are 3 people who have never been in my kitchen?" LOL

  • 22000 big ones!

  • Old school Trebek, with the mustache!

  • CLIFF CLIFF CLIFF U R a moron

  • Classic Cliff Claven! hahahahaha. Did anyone noticed at 4:24 where the womans total went back up to 3300 & not 400. If I were Cliff I would have bid 15000 Even if the woman won & wagered everything (6600) Cliff would still win (7000) .

  • Oh, for Pete's sake. The joke is that he bet everything. It wouldn't be funny if he played it strategically.

  • I agree 100%.

  • @mlnreplyer Not to mention the fact that if Cliff won his game, the writers would have been forced to make a one-shot appearance into a five episode story arc until he was either defeated or retired.

  • you are right about the score.

  • Funny enough, I bet 20 grand of Cliffs money before I saw the question....and I would have guessed Cary Grant, Tony Curtis....and Lucille Ball.

  • Don't you mean Cliff's final Question at Cheers' Finest?

  • There's a mistake in this clip, at 4:23 it says the lady in the middle has $3300 when she really is supposed to have $400

  • whoaaaaaaaaaaaa!

    u r right

    haaaahaha

    nice catch

  • They actually used these categories in real life on Jeopardy!

  • someone...please post cliff clavin and spanky mcfarland from the last season since its out on dvd now! thanks

  • Correct me if I am wrong and I am sure you will, but is that the 1985-1991 Jeopardy Set?

  • yup

  • is that john ratzsonberger

  • Yup

  • 3:35

  • Error: Chiff's responce was revealed too soon.

  • I'm So Psyched You Posted This!!! I searched for this randomly and can't believe its up here! This is one of the greatest episodes of any show!! THANK YOU, YOU MADE MY DAY! :)

  • i love this sean

  • Great episode. This is Woody Harrelson's second appearance on Jeopardy. If you look at the movie "White Man Can't Jump", you'll see Harrelson's girlfriend in that movie appear on Jeopardy while Harrelson is sitting in the audience.

  • @OCCORAT not to nitpick but this one would be his first appearance in the audience. This episode was from 1990, WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP came out in 1992. Cheers!

  • EXCELLENT episode, would be nice to have the closing part, where Alex comes into Cheers, and Cliff is Looking for his $44K...

  • hahaha,that episode is a classic

  • One of the funniest moments in tv history as voted by TvGuide a couple years back. And they are so right. Cliff on Jeopardy is one of the most hysterical thing ever. Timeless classic: Cheers!

  • Why didn't Johnny introduce where Cliff was from?

  • @nlafavore Because all three contestants were supposed to be from Boston.

  • Comment removed

  • LOL, I remember this episode. A+

  • Did anybody notice the flub at 4:22? The woman who had dropped to 400 for answering incorrectly was all of the sudden up to 3300 again.

  • lol, I noticed that, too!

  • One of my favorite Cheers episodes. At the end of the show Trebek stops in at Cheers and has a beer.

I miss Thursday night NBC sitcoms.

  • does anyone know if he competed on celebrity jeopardy?

  • CLASSIC Clavin lol

  • Alex Trebek and Johnny Gilbert played themselves.

  • "Cheers" is on every weeknight at 6:00 P.M. & 6:30 P.M. on KDOC-TV

  • When Cliff is ranting about getting the answer wrong, there's a shot of the lawyer lady, and her sum is still 3300. Continuity fail! 4:21

  • And the response Cliff wrote was visible at 3:15 but not at 3:25

  • Good eye!

  • What is so funny about the categories?

  • Did you ever watch the show?

  • ...wow. You must have never watched the show! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to the store, and buy the DVD's!

  • Those categories were his dream catergories, in other words, he wanted those catergories to be up there.

  • An 8 months late response, but the funny thing about the categories is that they're all related to Cliff. He's a mailman, i.e. a civil servant, and obviously stamps are related to his job, he lives with his mom, he drinks a lot of beer, he's an expert at bar trivia, and he doesn't get any action with women, hence "celibacy" lol.

  • Don't take that! I'm the champion. I'm not going to tell me America! [continues yelling] Tony Kurtis. If you're out there, you can hear me! Going out! What's the problem with you? I'm not crying about looking! [continues yelling, faint]

  • This "Cheers" episode is entitled "What is...Cliff Clavin?"

  • Why does the audience laugh when Johnny introduces Cliff? I don't see what's so funny there.

  • Because the first contestant is an attorney, the second a surgeon - both rather distinguished occupations - and then they simply introduce Cliff as a 'mailman'

  • And most people view a mailman as just some uneducated dink?

  • @samsticka anybody can be a mailman (the requirements are not arduous), but only a few can make it through years of medical school or pass the bar exam. So, yeah, the postal profession is seen as less than. At least in comparison to these two.

  • Did anyone notice continuity errors? I found 2.

  • yeap I noticed!

  • someone out there PLEASE post cliffs encounter with spanky mcfarland. i only saw it the day it aired!

  • I'm going to be on "Jeopardy!"

  • Editing flaw at 4:22
