hahahahahahahahaha yea wow go peugot with your ugly car that hasnt proved a thing my 13 year old ford fiesta can do that speed in that condition. drive it somewhere impressive instead to grab peoples attenttion
If this was faked, don't you think it would have been picked up on by the reporters? Also if you have a very good eye you can see from 1:55 - 1:58 that the car is to the left and that the winch is in the middle of the screen (just follow the cable if you cant see it) But feel free to believe what you wish.
Yeah, excellent, it's time the sport got more exposure. Shame on you thinking it's faked It's a pity that we can't really see the dynamic of the car and the glider in the same shot, it's the depth of field of the camera lens. there must be some old 1930's reverse car launches on you tube to look at to see the effect. Good stuff!!
I'm a member of the club too. I was there on the press launch week. Nearly 50 journalists watched this take place over 4 days. . Nearly every motoring section of the national press carried an article on this. If it had been faked, they would have reported it.
And what about the point off releasing the cable.. looks like a winch start to me. Including the no verticle rope thing i think its a fake :( . If it was real they would have had a shot including both. Look at 1:57 nothing but the rope (no car)! And with a winch i can simulate a car launche,
The one thing i dont know for sure is why would they build a release hook on the car when they were planned to fake it, maybe im wrong and its real or they tried it but it didnt work out very well.
The point of the reverse pulley system is that the car always has a horizontal pull to the pulley, and the glider has whatever angle it needs to the pulley. That's why you can't see the car and the glider together during the launch. They start from opposite ends of the field travelling towards each other. We did a perfectly normal autotow launch. There is no incentive to fake it if you can do it for real. The release hook is in place of a guillotine, as used on a winch. See my previous comment.
After looking at 1:57 again, I CAN see the car, because I know where to look (I was in the car!). It's about half a mile away. It is a tiny dot just under the trees to the left of the cable run.
I saw 2 editing bloomers, showing a rear wheel & 1st gear. As winch master at Stratford on Avon Gliding club, I was in the car to ensure safety, and to advise the Peugeot driver on speed control. We used a reverse pulley system to give the full length of the field (1100m) for both car & glider. The whole run was in 2nd gear (max. nearly 70mph), with a bit of clutch slipping initially, the car's good low speed torque & grip control took over. Great fun, with a dozen launches, 1 with our T21B.
Have you noticed that near the start of the video when Peugeot's grip control system is mentioned, the camera points at one of the rear wheels implying rear wheel drive. However towards the end of the video it states that the 3008 is front wheel drive and not a 4x4.....!
We've done autotow zillions of times and it goes ok with a smaller car, if you have a light single seater. And this didn't look like normal winch start as the first 150feet were way too shallow. Just like autotow...
Probably fake. Car launch is possible, and quite common in some places, but here I can't ever see the glider AND the car in the same shot. Nor the tow rope directed towards the sky.
Anyway, the glider in this video is VERY affordable: it's an SZD Junior, built in Poland, a simple and easy glider you can buy (2nd hand) for as low as 5.000 bucks. And, when you'll sell it (you won't get tired, but you will want something better), you'll still get your 5.000 back!
I've been on both ends of the rope, dozens of times. Pretty hard to get the glider and the tow car in the same frame with 1000+ foot rope. Given the length (duration) of the tow, I don't have a problem with a little front wheel drive car getting the Junior launched. Good luck finding one for 5 thousand bucks.
not too sure....... a car drive around with a cable behind it, .......... looks like a normal winch start. Are we sure this is not some "creative" Peugeot advertisement???
Looks like a typical autotow launch to me, with very slow ground acceleration and a very gentle initial climb. It would have been much faster and steeper (and higher) on the winch. The car appears to have a manual gearshift, which is not really advisable for glider launching.

they need to use a turn so, if the have a pulley by the winch the car drive towards the start position.
It only pulls the cable, it doesn`t spool it up like a wich

It looks more like a real winch-launch.
I think that the Video is faked. But it is a very good commercial.

Cernauta, it would be a bit difficult to get all of that in a good focus shot, anyway. That would also include the tow rope!
But I guess you DO have a point about the tow rope directed at the sky from the car's perspective. I'm a bit stumped now.

I would actually like to have BOTH the glider and the car. Euopeans have the good cars while we have to settle for de-tuned, old tech crap in the US.
