Grandpah was a Dental asistant there from 67-68,deployed from McClellan AFB.I have his "GO TO HELL" hat with the huge pin on top,a Thai language book and a Silverwear set he got at a souvineer shop called "Jims Gems" lol.
I was at U-Tapao Dec 68-69. Worked Dining Hall B,635 Services Sq, went in as a 3 1/2 year Sgt, left a SSgt. Lt Col Wayne Boyne(a renowed book aurthor) was my commander. Retired as a Chief.I still miss it. Back then Red Horse Beach was the place to be, when not downtown. G.F.Keith

I was a 1985th CommSq air traffic controller from Nov67-Nov68..As a 20 year old man/kid,I had the expierence of a lifetime slinging B52,KC135,ThaiNavy S2,HU16,C47, and P3 local base traffic;in addition to the C130,C124,C141,T39,helecoptor and even a SR71..
I had the pleasure & privledge to work with some of the sharpest troops on God's green Earth..The Lucky House [my 2nd home] was one of the tackiest, but most alluring establishments I have ever had the pleasure to frequent.
Trying to locate info on Ted Eppers who served at Utapao, Thailand back in 1971. I believe later he was assigned somewhere in VietNam. I attended class with him at Lowry AFB, Denver Colorado from March 1971 to May 1971 when he was shipped out to Utapao. I heard he may be deceased, but I would like to know for sure. I have a picture from back in 71, but no recent pics. Any info is appreciated.
We just redone our photos albums which included photos of my 1970-71 tour in U-tapao. Photos are great but having access to films from that era is much better. I was attach to 635th suppy squadron & assgned to work with the 635th Engr. section. Separation from family was hard but I along with others manage to complete our tour.
That guy looks real familiar. I worked for the 6th Aerial Port from 73 to 74. Then the 618 MASS 75 to 76 when they closed U-tapao down. Some of the best years of my life.
It seems kind of strange writing about my experiences at Utapao--as a 19 year old kid--now that I am about to celebrate my 59 birthday. My service time in Sattahip was '69-'70 and I vividly remember all the friends I made both at Utapao AB and Camp Same Sam. The baht bus ride to and from the main gate, the trips down to Kilo Sip Jet--where I lived--and the vets with whom I worked, day-in and day-out, will never be forgotten. What a life lesson!! Krawp koon mach Krawp.
i was assigned to the 635th supply squadron in pol fueling the plans and live off base at sattahip/now i have a disability claim for hearing issue and agent orange.trying to confirm other aircraft besides b52,s and kc135,s
@MLBDreamer Hello Dreamer, I also was at U-Tapao July 67-68 and August 69-70. I really had great time. Iwas in transportation 1st year and AGE (areospace ground equipment 2nd). I live in Summerville South Carolina presently after retiring in 88. I have many Thai friends here and in Agusta Ga. I recently went to the Snakrron New Year in Augusta. I would appreciate an email from you. My email is flynopa@att.net. Looking to hear from you.
I flew to U-Tapao on a commercial airliner back in the 80's, ostensibly bound for Bangkok. Apparently, because it was a charter flight, it wasn't allowed to land at Bangkok. We also had several fire trucks meet us on landing. What a strange flight that was.
My opinion; this was a very "surrealistic war." You had to be stationed in SEA to relate to the juxtapositioning of WAR vs WESTERN CONVENIENCES. Minutes from our bases there was death and destruction. On bases like Ubon and U-Tapao, there were swimming pools, NCO and Officer's clubs and downtowns with massage parlors. Go figure. This film makes it look pretty clean, which it was if you were in Thailand.
If you want to call working 12 hours a day 6 and 7 days a week clean, OK. I spent a year at U-Tapao and it was hardly clean. Inspite of the hardships it was one of the best years of my life and now live in Thailand.
I'd call coming home with non-sabotaging "life experiences" or bits of metal in the limbs very clean. Our combat photo group did the 12 on 12 off, 7 days a week with rotating days off during "Arc Light" on Guam. With all the respect we vets are due, I know that my tour based in Thailand was a "gift"....compared to those that came back altered for life or gave their life. Don't misunderstand this, but working hard isn't the worst thing we've ever done in life. I'm sure you'd agree.
All you guys did great over there. Hope you aren't coming down with melanoma now. Seems nobody wore shirts there. I know it was/is hot in Thialand, but I guess nobody knew the risks.
I was at 1975 Communications Group AB Thailand. from 1972-1974 then went to taipai Air Station Taiwan. was a long time ago.

Does anyone know the name of that airman at the end of the clip? I think we were neighbors in the late 70s.
