Even a grizzly stands no chance against a full grown Cougar. Cats are the most fearsome brawlers in the animal kingdom when it comes to size to ability to cause damage. This cougar mother may not have been able to kill the grizzly, but like realmaml said, Bears, and grizzly's especially don't want to have fight for their food. You can see how quickly the bear gives up here, he's just afraid to turn his back on the cougar.
