I forgot all about the limbs flying off into space thing, and being able to hit mechs you couldn't see. Goddamn, man, memory does funny things with your mind.
I totally forgot about this game till i found it recently in one of my desk drawers, it might not look super impressive but i fucking LOVED it as a kid!
@L1011 ok thats good to know. Thanks for your help bro :D I use virtual PC with windows 98 installed so I think I should be all good. Dosbox just screwed up when I used it lol
Hmmm I have this game and the expansion (it was dad's) I think I'll run It in virtual 98. One question to any fans out there, is this impossible to play without a joystick, cos I have a USB one not serial (it's kinda busted)
There's a couple different tricks to getting it to run in modern systems. If it's the DOS version, there's ways to make it run fine in native modern Windows, though I'd still recommend DOSBox in most cases. If it's the Win-95 version, I believe you'd need a Windows 95/98 emulator because I don't think it'll run in XP or later.
As for the joystick, I just used the keyboard to move and mouse to aim. Arrow keys to steer, enter to cycle weapons, and so on.
Combine the kick ass laser and missile noises from mechwarrior 3 as well as the mechs, upgrade the textures in the mechwarrior 2 planets. Add multiplayer compatibility and now you have a game of the ages.
@XKS99 Earthsiege not ES2. ES2 was dull, just like all of the Mechwarrior music.
Besides, Timothy Steven Clarke and Christopher Stevens soundtrack list easily defeats Gregory Alper & Jeehun Hwang's; especially with A-10 Silent Thunder II.
Hi I have a bug when i approaching fire base ( for inspection) nothing happends and the primary objective is not achieved. So i cant achieve the mission
Actually in the default controls, Q is used to select an object under the targetting reticle (such as the firebase buildings). The I key is used to inspect it.
The Arrow IV artillery piece was introduced in the Mechwarrior 2 expansion Ghost Bear's Legacy, and carried over to Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. Though in the game, it's really treated not so much as an artillery weapon as it is a 'really big missile that does a lot of damage and can shoot at targets at the very edge of detection range'.
They should take this exact game, and update it with more realistic graphics, and more weapons, missions, and mechs. But the same cool music and atmosphere. For some reason I liked this game a lot more than MW2 Mercenaries, it just has a better vibe. I especially like this game more than any other mech games that were made.
Yes this was the sound track. I figured out that I could stick the MW2 disk into my cd player and I listened to this sound track all the time. All time greatest female AI HUD voice!
Mad-Dog! nostalgia to the max, someone shoul remake this game with today's graphics... like frostbyte/cryengine or UT engine... oh men I just remembers hours of play of this...
@halranger Dude for real I have this music on my ipod and I legit listen to it it's so awesome!
And OP, I hate Clan Wolf but I gotta give you credit.. you set up the Mad Dog almost exactly like I do haha. Usually I ditch that one heat sink so I can have a Quad of ER Mediums, then just pay attention more during combat.
dude, I so wasn't playing this game right, I never cleared a level, never customized... I was young and my english sucked balls. I'll find the game CD and play it now!!!
Omg... ''local time: 01:34, 16'' as thePavuk said her voice is lovable, that's one of the things I loved ^.^
I were lucky and got this game with my 3DFX Voodoo1-card. Oh man did this game look great with 3D acceleration..detailed terrain, detailed mechs, much cooler effects. On top of all that it ran a lot smoother than in software mode.
I got the ATI 3D Rage special edition of Mechwarrior 2 when I bought my card. It's fairly similar to the Voodoo version if I remember right. I have to agree, it was amazing, and absolutely blew the later Titanium Version of Mechwarrior 2 out of the water.
I still have the CD, I wish I could figure out how to make it run... :(
damn i remember buyin this when it came out. i got it in the package that came with the Microsoft Sidewinder joystick. too many hours to count on this game.
Wow this game really makes me feel old. I was just a kid playing this game and it was the coolest game I had ever played. The atmospheres and the voices are beautiful. I love the music too! Really brings me back there.
@Bluedrake42 damn straight. I used to play this game when I was 6 and I remember how much I used to love the music in this level. It certainly does add to the gameplay experience. its ominous sounding but sounds so cool.
Man, the computer voice in Mechwarrior 2 was great. Even though it talked a heck of a lot, it had a unique and matter-of-fact sound that didn't really ever become annoying.
Just run it through the DOSBox emulator. Piece of cake. You can run it through Windows but it takes some finesse, there's instructions for it if you look arouound.
@RogerioMartins87 i soo agree.. i remember playing this level untill time ran out, i'm beginning to think that it's a glitch (or unless we can destroy the firebase lol)
I had this game, but it terrified me as a kid. I was afraid to move, so I just sat it one place and just shot at anything that came nearby. I should try it again. I think I'd do a lot better this time.

Dumb question: can the mechs carry large caliber cannons and/or artillery in any of the Mechwarrior games or is it lasers, guns and missiles only?
threedotsdead 7 months ago
@threedotsdead
in MW4 you have the Long Tom mortar and Thunderbolt unguided missile and in MW4:Mercenaries, you have the Arrow IV cluster bomb (I think).
Besides that, I don't know any other artillery weapon.
