  • Had the distinct honor of being in a clinician with Frederick Fennell in 1983 when I was in college and this was one of the numbers. The man was a conducting genius

  • The wind ensemble at my High School played this last year. We sounded so great :) I loved trilling in the high high register on clarinet :)

  • performed this piece today at bates recital hall at UT.

  • @ediotman SAME HERE BRO.

  • Bravo! Cheers from Brazil

  • Wow, I get so many goosebumps from 5:06 to 5:44.

    Very chilling.

  • wow... our wind ensamble is doing this. im the oboe!!! its hard tho :/

  • @annetgleek omg i was the english horn when we did this a few months ago. it's so beautiful and intense.

  • Died at 39...imagine the things he might have written...Thank you for what you left behind, Barney! RIP

  • Actually, check out the "Overture for a Musical Comedy" - it was published in 1997, and the story is that it was a work of Chance's that was found after his death. We just did a recording session of Chance's work - The Elegy is one of my favorites.

  • One of the most moving wind symphony pieces of all time. If you ever play it, have some kleenex handy! Thanks for posting this beautiful recording.

  • A stunning piece, so well crafted and full of genuine emotion. I played it at the beginning of my freshman year (back in 1996) in the college symphonic band and was very moved by it. It's one of those pieces you don't forget.

  • John Barnes Chance died by accidentally electrocuting himself in his backyard.

  • i love this!! i had the bassoon solo

  • I've heard the story aswell... it wasn't directly procedding the finality of this piece, supposedly it was 6 months or so after the completion. I heard he was setting the fence up for his dogs so his home could be ready for a party involving his career.

  • Oh, this is beautiful, yet eerily disturbing. Especially that English horn solo at 7:25!

  • Amazing piece of music...we miss you, Maestro Chance.

  • Such a beautiful, but haunting piece. Gives me goosebumps.

  • This is my favorite piece by John Barnes Chance... thanks for posting it!
