Well my father-in-law is a biology professor and he and his wife had a wildlife rehabilitation license. They've taken care of injured crows, racoons and even skunks before, releasing them when they got well. :^)
It's so fascinating how they can look at you for a long time and not blink.

it weird because your in-laws don't seem to e the people to know how to do this, and yet they know exactly how to care for a baby owl.
