  • this movie changed the way i live, and i can't get it outta my mind, cheers to the author of the book and the creator of the movie, this is perfection of an ideology

  • Skazi - Slide. The song: "find your power animal, slide"

  • lol grim adventures of billy and mandy parodied this scene!

  • does anyone know what the piece of music is when Norton says he became 'addicted' - it'sthe music that plays when he is sitting in the hall listening to the seminars. It sounds classical, but i cant find it anywhere.

  • name of the song please?

  • @oldschoolvescan

    Skazi - Slide

  • Awesome

  • walking brings slow controlled stability, in other words too careful, sliding brings you to where you want faster but you may stray off, What is better in reality? slow safe paced yet never really reaching your goal? or risking it all and trying to reach your goal?

I find this question hard to answer? what do you guys think?

  • does anybody know whats the song thats about to start at the end of the scene?? PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE let me know :)

  • @koridorR21 its called marla. Just look for it on youtube...for example...fight club- marla...or go here: /watch?v=khnEeBCPwYM&feature=related

  • @Shack83 is that what the penguin means

  • Check out the short poem "hug the dark" by charles bukowski. My theory is that "slide" was inspired by this poem.

  • @laxman9677 I agree! That definitely makes sense.

  • @laxman9677 thank you for your comment

  • The the the the fuck?!

  • if i had a tumor, id name it Erin

  • justin timberlake

  • @darrrrekdaro lol

  • This honestly might be my favorite scene in the whole movie.

  • Jedi :)

  • @kato515 who is he a jedi ? :P

  • Pure Jedi :)

  • damn, this scene is so magic

  • Honestly the first time i saw this I was like "this is a WTF scene".

  • @NYCParkourAddict actually, that was the idea. David Fintchner wanted a surreal scene to prepare the audience for what was to come- more surrealism

  • I this is the one scene I didn't get .

  • @sjgiants12 Jack's power animal is a penguin. A penguin is a bird that cannot fly. It's a metaphor for his inability to escape his life, he can't "fly away", per se. So he "slides" into different skin: Tyler Durden.

  • @Shack83 Thank you

  • @Shack83 This isn't really important, but Norton's character has no name. The "Jack" is taken from those articles he found in the magazine. In neither the book nor the movie, he is nameless. Watch the end-credits; he is listed as "Narrator."

  • "No fear, no distraction. the abillity to let that wich does not matter truly slides".

    so true.

  • "Jack" <- narrator, does mention the "abillity to let that which does not matter truly slide". In the back alley of the convenient store of Raymond K. Hessel.

  • Cute penguin.

  • i love this scene so much

  • slide means get out of the way and let go and let god.

fight club is so beautiful and profound and funny and also so slashy. it's the best movie. i love it so much.

  • Edward's reaction is PRICELESS!

  • Oh, is the penguin animated?

  • FYI the director wanted the scene to be trippy to foreshadow how crazy the movie was going to be visually and psychologically

  • This scene is actually in the book too, including the "slide" quote. It's every bit as weird in the movie as it is in the novel.

  • Oh and by the way, does this mean the penguin is Tyler?

  • let go just let go

  • This seems more like an acid trip

  • someone should remake this scene and make the penguin sound like marcus from farce of the penguins....SLIDE MOTHA FUCKA!

  • This is what I envision in yoga during savasana

  • I changed my account name to this quote. I see things differently now!

  • awwwwww ((:

  • Slide! Let go and just slide! Forget the rules and restrictions that hold you down, quit caring about Swedish furniture, the Mona Lisa, dining sets, bills, all that shit!! Slide!!!

  • @SovietVision be free. do what you want to. change your life. go. [...]

  • you stupids forgot the first rule!

  • Only movie I'm jealous I didn't write.

  • @kasey172 Well technically it was the BOOK that was written. XD The movie just took pieces of it to make an image...

  • SLIDE!!!

  • i meant 0:14

  • 0:13 would make a cool phone background lol

  • What's this dude smokin'?

  • Aw so cute! Jack(The narrator) is so adorable!

  • i just watched this for the first time yesterday it was awesome, but i remember from when i was littler i watched that show the grim adventures of billy and mandy and i rememberd that grims power animal was a penguin that said slide lol

  • I wanna know what's my power animal now :O

  • funny scene XD XD XD

    SLIDE! AHAHAHAHAHAH

  • A classic one. Can't get enough of that.

  • I´m reading the book for the second time now.

When me and my 5year old brother walked from my place to my mom´s he said that she should have been a penguin because they are so fast.

  • lol it's so cute

  • én egy olyan cégnél dolgozom ahol nap mint nap meg kell keresnem a segítő állatot...rengeteg dagadt, ronda nővel vagyok össze zárva...ilyenkor átnézek rajtuk...és csak "csússzok"

  • Penguin = Love

  • SLIDE! <3

  • edward norton use linux

  • @mehdiand1job Tyler obviously Mac OS

  • aww =)

  • Slide!!! he he he

  • This is my favorite movie. This one and Pulp Fiction. And that's my favourite pinguin, he is the coolest penguin ever.

  • what part of the movie is this....I'm trying to find this and I can't

  • lol when he looked at it i thought he was going to hit it.

  • That Same Penguin made a cameo in Happy Feet!

  • lmao and i the only one that giggled that when the narrator said "power" animal out came wobbling cute penguin, the irony hehe

  • Slide!!

  • nice

  • Fight Club

  • I don't understand why it said slide

  • It's a callout to a part of the movie later where Tyler grabs the convience store worker. Jack's power animal say's slide in reference to a revelation Jack has about Tyler's philosophy.

    Jack Voice-over:

"You had to give it to him. He had a plan. And it started to make sense in Tyler sort of way. No fear. No distractions. The ability to let that which does not matter truly slide."

  • ah, ok, that makes sense

  • wow. It's like that's when "Tyler" was forming to exist. The penguin was a sign, the means to Tyler's philosophy and inevitable existence.

Foreshadowing, right? Except I'm sure this part wasn't in the book.

  • Yeah it was, when the Narrator's going to the (I think) brain parasite group that Chloe's in. The temple with the seven doors, find your power animal, he says explicitly it's a penguin and they slide through the tunnels and the galleries. Given it doesn't occur in a cave, but many things are different from the movie to the book, many of them superficial.

  • The penguin didn't talk though.

  • @DeepCrimson yes, actually this part is in the book

  • I'm going to make a tattoo sayng "Slide"

belive it or not the whole movie, but especially that little scene, made me see my life in a completly different way.

Just let it go.. be free, you don't own any controll at all.. it's all about "Slide" ! :)

  • it's exactly the same way i get it :D

  • Same, that one quote changed everything. And like you, I was totally gonna get that tattoo too. However, being a girl, my guy friend told me it would look like I'd be asking every guy to slide his cock into me. LMAO. So, I decided not to. Aw.

  • @mrtvr1 totally got it written vertically down my ribs. love it

  • @mrtvr1 totally agree with you man

  • @mrtvr1 what do you mean by " you don't own any control at all" ?

i thought slide in the movie means follow your heart?

  • @s2003m0205 no the slide means just to let go because you dont contral it anyways

  • @mrtvr1 Read Chuck's other work.

  • @mrtvr1 Did you blow up an Ikea?

  • @mrtvr1 i have a slide tattoo on my foot i love it so much

  • i love his face after it says "slide."

  • only one of the best movies of all time, its simply amazing just give it a chance and PAY CLOSE ATTENTION its comlicated

  • Wow, far from it, Ive never seen a Disney movie were a guy shoots himself in the mouth to get rid of his alternative personality.

  • I didn't think that was realistic

How could he have survived that?

  • If you look closely, he just shot himself in the cheek, not the back of the head. People with multiple personalities (in real life) may get rid of it by changing themself physicaly. Haricut, plastic surgery, etc

  • oh i see

    ok that makes sense

  • Very, very far from it.

  • dude

    This movie is amazing

  • Well,if you didn't liked fight club,shoot yourself...

  • I liked the beginning of the movie but i had the "wtf" Feeling in the ending.

  • I haven't seen all of the movie but many scenes. When and why does this happen?

  • his holding on to the rails eg ikea furniture, crap job, fear, stress. So tyler tells him to let go, while the penguin tells him to slide.

  • SLIDE. *giggles*

  • I remember I told my exgirlfriend about spirit animals,I told her, that her spirit animal. Is the first animal that comes to mind,I asked her whats the first animal that comes to mind. At first she didn't want to tell me,then she's oh its a puinguine. I asked whats wrong with a puinguine & she said puinguinesare fat!

  • This is funny and cute at the same time! I didn't even understand what the heck this even meant the first couple of times I watched it. It's so sybolic.

    Freakin' brilliant!

  • Cute! I can't stop watching this :D

    Slide!

  • Great Movie. Have u ever read about Life Totems? Your Life Totem or Spirit Totem is always there for you and generally reflects your inner spiritual nature. For example if your Life Totem was a Penguin you would be a person who should be very spiritual since the penguin moves better in water (the symbol of the astral plane - which is were we go when we dream) than it does on land. Being able to leap out of the water (up to six feet) represents the ability of out of body experiences. (Tyler)

  • Solid!

  • slide :D

  • too....cute.

  • Look at his tie, when the penguin slides! Hahaha, made me laugh for days!!!

  • There's a reference to this clip on RuneScape.

(Yes I'm sad enough to know this)

Talk to your penguin after it's fully grown and sometimes it says "sliiiiiiiiiiide".

Thought of this when I heard about it.

  • what? fight club is made befor runscape wasnt it.. sorry i dont play that game

  • RuneScape was released in 2001, Fight Club in 1999. So RuneScape makes a reference to Fight Club.

  • I know, I said that. "Reference to this clip in RuneScape", meaning runescape IS referencing Fight Club.

  • Ohh my bad, I thought you said that Fight Club makes reference to RuneScape.

  • What is the reference?

  • I laughed so hard when I saw this the first time. It's brilliant because it makes sense symbolically on multiple levels, and yet at the same time it's hilarious because the penguin is practically an embodiment of cuteness. Brilliant, bloody brilliant. ^_^

  • i love the penguin. it's the perfect power animal. it's all about letting things slide and living life instead of being afraid of it. i should learn to slide in my own life and not obsess over meaningless shit.

  • I think the penguin is very sybolic of the characters power, as penguins are a bird that can't fly. And sliding is representive of what the character, and most americans do faced with the corruption or corperate america. Also it represents the theme of a generation of feminized men, as the the male stays with the egg and keeps it warm while the female goes to sea to find food for the baby. I love chuck palahniuk hes a genius! too sick too sick

  • "Slide" was meant to be a subconcious command/suggestion to simply have the Narrator let go of his convictions and enjoy his freefall with Durden in the film.

  • cute :) anyone got the clip when marla says "slide" ? :P

    So funny!

  • cool, thats my favorite scene

  • i still dont know what slide means...

  • slide means weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • awesome

  • Slide! So great.

  • favorite part in the whole movie!
