There are several recordings of this song as sung by the Diamonds posted on youtube, including several video clips from the 50's, and somebody complains about every one I've seen. How come?
MUSIC IS NOT MUSIC ANYMORE IM 45 AND I REMEMBER THE SOUNDS FROM MY PARENTS WHEN I WAS YOUNG EVEN WHEN IWAS 18 I WOULD DANCE WITH MY GIRL FRIEND TO THE DOO WOP SONGS WEARING A BLACK LEATHER JACKET AND MY SOUPED UP 67 NOVA SS WE WOULD SNEEK OFF IN MY CAR AND DANCE TO OLDIES AND ALSO DRAG RACE ANY ONE UP TO THE CHALLENGE MISS THOSE DAYS KEVIN DEDICATED TO KATHY MY SWEETHEART WHERE EVER YOU ARE OUR SONG WAS MAYBE BY THE CHANTELS LOVE YOU STILL KEVIN KOLAKOWSKI
there are so many versions of this song,.. and stay by the truth; everey one is awesome good! We like this guys and every day i hear this song and think: "Why i was born so lately and where are the music is gone...."
@ Nocaro, yes the great Brook Benton wrote "The Stroll", as I'm sure you know. Dick Clark was instrumental in lots of artists careers, including The Diamonds :)
@ Nocaro , I'm duly chastened after reading your footnotes. It was late, I saw "original" and your usage makes sense now that you kindly explained it. But to the casual perusal it is slightly misleading. By all accounts these guys were a jovial lot having fun with "their music". But it stll doesn't negate the fact that they were a quartet of Pat Boones covering artist, Okay, lol, nobody was as bad as Boone. BTW, subscribed to your channel. I'm very impressed with its width and depth. Congrats!
@TheReadsbororegular No problem. Not many people read my footnotes so it's easy to see how you would interpret my notations. I think The Diamonds got a lot of help early on from either Dick Clark or Brook Benton or both (especially with regard to "The Stroll"). I've always seen them as something akin to the Four Lads with a little R&B in them.
This ain't the "original". That would be Maurice Williams & The Gladiolas and written by Williams. The ONLY Diamonds hit that wasn't a cover was "The Stroll".
@TheReadsbororegular When I used the word "original" as it applies to the recording, it is intended as the "Original" by that artist and not necessarily the first time it was ever recorded. I do this to differentiate from re-recordings by the artists and in this instance The Diamonds did re-record "Little Darlin". Believe me, I know who originally did it and I've met the man, Maurice Williams, in person. Maurice still lives in the Charlotte, NC area.
@TheReadsbororegular BTW, you might want to read my comments attached to each video. This channel is about as close to an encylopedia of the Great American Songbook as you'll find on YouTube.

Canada's Greatest Contribution to Doo wop - and waited too, too long to be recognized by the Juno Awards and the hall of fame.
