Superb version of the Beatles best song. Edward Woodward did a 'crooner-style' version , a proper ballad, and it too is well worth a listen...This makes three very different treatments . The worst version I have heard was by the Beatles.....

hehe my friend, a cover can not be better then an original, the beatles had a small symphony 5-10 people for eleanor rigby, kansas had 75-100 it may sound amazing but the original is 10x better just for the fact of the creativity and melody, also this symphany in london has been doing eleanor rigby for decades now, they also did a cover with deep purple of eleanor rigby,beatles had to learn it in 3-4 days for recording, so as we all know the original makes it good, no hard feelings lolGO BEATLES

Actually the Beatles were not better musicians. Kansas blows them away in that category. Where the Beatles had the edge and not a very big one was the creativity! I would put them both on the same plane. As for your 2nd comment you're just trying to be clever.

While it is true that a cover can't be better than the original in the category of originality (that kind of goes without saying) it can be better in every other way. There are many examples of songs that in their original form are OK but when redone are taken to a whole nuva level! As far as the Beatles go I happen to think that everything that they did was genius so in this case the original can not be bested!

I am very fortunate to be a child of the 50's, I was there when "beatlemania" was, I was there for so many, repeat, so many amazing bands, groups, legends were developing.! I actually went to see "Vanilla Fudge" in Edmonton and their back up was "Led Zepplin" and i couldn't stand LZ.........taste is taste is taste...Kansas is Kansas, I think they are one of the best bands ever................

It's an amazing cover, which I'm finding is a little rare when you look at the ratio of Beatles covers, good to bad, but Kansas just isn't the same without Kerry Livgren. Ah well, at least Walsh and Steinhardt were there.

Plus they rocked the shit out of it! The original, which is an all time classic is just vocals and violin. This has the symphony but also the heavy drums and amplified instruments with the trademark Kansas mix of rock and classical that we've all come to love and cherish!

You're welcome! I don't know if you intended it but back in the 60's when this song originally came out fab and gear were 2 slang terms that the Beatles and the youth of the day used. So you see you've dated yourself anyway and maybe farther back than you thought! Just kidding and no problem cause I'm an old fossil who grew up with the original version although I love them both! I've also posted "Song For America" from this CD. Check it out and definitely buy it you wont be sorry!

I do too! They rocked it up and the symphony keeps the original classical element but expands on it! Nothing beats the original but this comes in a close second. You're welcome and you can count on it!
