They are bald-faced hornets, but they are not actually a true hornet. It is correct to identify them as yellow jackets or white-faced hornets, so stop calling people incorrect for calling them hornets. They build giant paper nests, and so hold qualitites of hornets, but are of a completely different genus. Hope that clears some things up.
