  • Isn';t that Ian Gillian singing?

  • I hear the word Epic abused so often, THIS song lives up to that word.

  • Ray Gillen could sing his ass off.. what a talent.. RIP

  • Dear God above:

Please bring music like this back to us again.

    Amen

  • how luck too see the band six times.

  • Great band with great musicians - saw these guys 6 times in Baltimore - EVERY time they got better!!

  • Man what a kick ass song!!!!

  • Awesome group...Jake really compliments what the 80's gave us! Long live rock and roll!

  • Coverdale Has a lower tone vocally. Gillen goes High with a longer range. I Definitely hear 2 diffrent but great Rock Singers. Awesum Jam With Jake backin it up with his god givin Talent.

  • 2:39 - 2:45

I need to change my underwear

We miss you SO much, Ray u.u

  • Dream Team!!! Great band!!!! I love this song!!!

  • Best song from one of the best albums from the 80's. Great guitar and great vocals!

  • Badlands = hugely underrated, hugely talented and made epic songs

  • great fucking song our band covers this tune

  • There was so much talent in this band. I met Eric Singer a few days ago at a KISS meet and greet and one of the items I brought to have signed was this cassette ( I know I am old - I own a cassette. I can still remember being 18 and buying it.). I have to say that Eric Singer is the best drummer in the world

  • Singer sounds like David Coverdale and Dio.

  • Jake E Lee may be considered the least popular of all of Ozzy's axemen, but he's still way more talented than the average!

  • @broncodrew real Ozzy fan's knows Jake and knows that Randy and Jake where the best Ozzy's guitarrists...

  • Fantastic song! Jake was a phenomenal guitarist and Gillen's voice was unique.

  • Great song by a VERY underrated band!! The first time I heard this I confused myself thinking it was either Sammy Hagar or David Coverdale singing because I wasn't very familiar with Gillans voice at that time. At any rate, great song!! \m/\m/

  • THis is such a good song. Jake E. Lee where are you? we need some new licks !!!

  • awesome band, love watching jake dance with that guitar

  • This should have been a Hot 100 single. The record company boned these guys. What a waste of talent and imagination.

  • Is a best Hard Rock Band!

  • Uy Excelente tema, con Jake E.Lee en la Guitarra,Ray Gillen en la voz,Y Eric Singer actual Baterista de Kiss...

  • !7 years today since Ray is gone...

  • OK, Patton, you may have a point there.

  • The Led Zeppelin of the late 80'sd and early 90's. Lucky to have seen them several times.

  • wow, this song rocks...now i'm gonna look for that Badlands album....thanks for uploading....Jake Lee kick ass, even on Ozzy's albums....\m/...

  • dam, there were bad ass back then and still r. u can hear the '70 '80 & some grunge tone in there.

  • yes jake e. lee is a great guitarist

  • Ray Gillen was so fucking HOT!!!!!!

  • Ha ha chokeu2!! I heard this today on sirius radio, and I did confuse Gillen with Coverdale, I stand corrected!!

  • This song is so freaking amazing. Easily one of my top 10 favorite songs ever!

  • My brother has Ray's jacket. We saw them at broome county arena and Ray threw his jacket in the audience.

  • RIP Ray

  • Another bad ass singer was a guy named Rob Lamothe...Riverdogs, which had Viv Campbell on Guitar. Like Coverdale, but his phrasing was very unique, never sang lines in a verse the same...cool

  • Yeah baby, this a great hair metal song

  • eric singer......

  • As a Black Sabbath fan since the early 80's I've read a lot of stuff with the people who were involved one way or another. Ray (who filled in for Glenn Hughes on the Seventh Star tour) was not gay. He did however, seem to get involved with a lot of unprotected sex with women. He was a great singer, but not too safe in his personal life. And as for Jake E. Lee, he was/is truly one of the most melodic, great metal guitar players. The sound he brings with him on albums is incredible.

  • @Lornsorrow Thank that someone got this HIV right. The not knowing of some people can be frightening sometimes ....

  • My favorite "hair band" hands down.......I could listen to their debut over and over again and NEVER get tired of it....The Sophomore and Junior albums were great as well, but this one is by far MY FAVE. R.I.P. Ray!

  • AND Eric Singer on Drums AWESOME!!!

  • 2:00 - 2:30 sick.

  • Ray Gillen was a fag, wasn't he?

  • @drjuancarlosvega2 you're a dick aren't you?

  • @skot66

No, but if I were, Ray Gillen would've wanted to suck me.

  • @drjuancarlosvega2 theres nothing more pathetic then some loser talking shit about someone that is dead.what a sad world we live in

  • @TheSnaken1

I'm not "talking shit" about anyone. He was gay or a drug addict, period. You fanboys need to come to grips with it.

  • @drjuancarlosvega2 im actually not a fan.he was a good singer.but this is actually the only badlands song i like.just dont think you should talk about someone that is dead and cant defend themselves.and being gay doesnt mean shit to me.

  • @drjuancarlosvega2 wtf? he contacted AIDS from a blood transfusion or sharing needles not sure. Definitely not gay like yourself!

  • @sepulthrax

Ummm, when there is no announcement of how you contracted HIV, that means you're gay or a drug addict. He would've screamed from the mountaintops if it were a blood transfusion.

  • @drjuancarlosvega2 no i don't think so. he got aids through needles

  • I love Badlands!.. I've always thought that they were in a class by themselves

And far above other American metal bands

  • What a sound,,what a band!! This is music!!!!! Jake is a Guitar NINJA!!!!

  • Badlands is great! If you like this you might like Red Rocket here on you tube..."I´ve got a date", Concrete boots" or "All by myself"..

  • Eric Singer on Drums!!! so awsome!

  • This was a band that got mis-labeled by the press.Very good line up and they were getting more refined. It's as if Coverdale and Bolin did a project. Gillen and Lee are fantastic. Jake E Lee comeback with your Charvel

  • OMG I wet my pants

  • Ray Gillen has such a powerful voice!

  • man use too ride the strip (ward's rd.) listening to this on cassette !! great time's they were !!! csc/10

  • hey problematic kids, ray is miming coverdale 100% in this song-in other songs/recordings he might sound more like himself i guess, have a life

and train your little rotten ears, haha

  • @jokersbonus I love fucks that like to compare singers. Yeah there was plenty that wrote Coverdale off as a Plant imitator, even Plant himself. Guess what? I love Coverdale, and I think in many ways he was superior to Plant. His texture and the richness of his vocals surpassed Plant in many ways. When I hear Ray, I do not hear Coverdale. He is great in his own right. Yeah believe me I've studied this shit, and there is no comparison. Go back to rock school.

  • @MrGwc72 Shove your studies in your tunnel-hole between your legs: if you DON t hear Coverdale's influence here, you re deaf - it s the last time i reply to losers who get 'angry' and 'opinionated', knowing sh*t. I guess nobody hears Coverdale in Jorn Lande's singing then. Anyway, Ray, Jorn still are great - it s not a BAD thing to have a big influence, it s a GOOD thing. And both guys added their talent - which none of retarded comment-ers really have on his own - over and out

  • hey problematic kids, ray is miming coverdale 100% in this song, get a life

  • coverdale and gillen were both super . why compare and compete two super singers compete compete compete .. bugger that they all add to the meltin pot that is music

  • Ray Gillen is MIMING DAVID COVERDALE. Good miming though

  • dont be stupid

  • It s not an easy thing miming the 'cov'. it was a compliment actually-i m so sorry Ray passed away so young (RIP) he would surely adress cov as his main influence.

If anyone knows anything about singnig he knows i m right-stupid is the word for you little s***head

  • if u get ray's voice mixed up with coverdale's then u must have a hearing problem because they sound alike but barely

  • After OZZY ronnie james was the perfect fit for sabbath ... HEAVEN AND HELL is still the album i revere

  • Comment removed

  • well there is a ian gillan.maybe thats what he was refering too.singer for deep purple before david coverdales brief stint

  • @TheSnaken1

Yes im aware of that. he was also in BLACK SABBATH in 1983 or 84 recording BORN AGAIN ...... So was RAY GILLEN in 1987's SABBATH album ETERNAL IDOL

  • Is this Ray Gillen related to Ian Gillen of Deep Purple?

  • no. not related. it's RAY GILLEN and IAN GILLAN.

  • Ah gotcha, Thanks

  • 1 night I had some thug harrasing me, Jake saw it & had his security pick me up and put me on the edge of the stage, just 2 protect me. It was the side Jake's amps were on. I watched from there, WHAT A SEAT!!!!!! I was supposed to pick up Eric (the drummer) to get his Animal (the Muppets) tatoo on his arm. I got there on time... BUT COULD HEAR NOTHING!!! LOLOL!! I literally head only muted noise or RINGING for 2 days! Tnx Jake.!

  • Im a girl who used 2 tour with a band they toured with. SO I knew him PERSONALLY. He was the singer for Black Sabbath b4 he and Jake formed this band. IT WAS the HAIR ROCK ERA. Doesnt mean he copied Coverdale. When you have SUCH a LOUD powerful voice, it is what it is. He was ALWAYS just as good live.

  • love the solo!!

  • I'll never understand why so many people seem to insecure that they need to slag others. Lee is a great guitarist in his own right. Gillen was a great vocalist in his. And I've never confused Gillen with Coverdale, such generalities show a lack of much in the way of intellectual input towards making a point.

    It's music, just enjoy it.

  • @chokeu2 Dead right for the both of them. Ray and J made better music without the Sab/ozzy weight on their backs.

  • @chokeu2

Ha ha, I did make that mistake! I heard this today on sirius radio and thought it was Coverdale! See what happens when a girl thinks she knows what she is hearin!

  • @chokeu2 no shit, i agree with ya.

  • @chokeu2

you got it man. if gillen was trying to mimic coverdale then he would be free game for comparison. but he doesn't. he was a phenom if you ask me. and jake e lee is one of the greatest guitarists to ever walk this planet. seriously, he might be the most talented of all the ozzy guitarists (just not as trail blazing as randy). plus most people throwing stones can't even make a D chord much less actually play this stuff. like you said...its music. just enjoy it.

  • @mightyhokie I disagree, Gillen copped Coverdale's look and vocal style big-time. It didn't stop him from being a great singer with a powerful voice. I don't even like most singers, but I'd listen to this guy.

  • Hey campilho...i´m turning the fuckin´ volume up of the loudspeakers to the MAX (100)!...many thanx for sharing this fuckin´ great song!

    Greetings from Santiago, CHILE!

    Seb

  • never heard these guys b4 but hey luv them

  • RIP RAY ..i remember seein him singin little clubs in NJ with HARLOT

  • わんわん^^

  • eric is the best drummer

  • Jake was Ozzy's best guitarist, I don't care what any of the Rhodes fans say...This dude was the SHIT

  • i hate to burst your bubble but bark at the moon was the work of Randy Rhoads before he was killed.. he just was killed before they could release it. Jake e lee filled in . that is why it was such a great album , the following album . The ultimite sin was jake e lee's work and its very clear the guitar work wasnt so incredible. i love jake but dont take away Randy Rhoads from the greatness he is and deserves

  • Who said anything about "Bark at the Moon"? I said Jake was Ozzy's best guitarist, period. I made no mention of album...

But since you mention it, I'll take "Shot In The Dark" and "Secret Loser" over "Rock-n-Roll Rebel" and "Slow Down" anyday...

  • That's a fairy tale... Bark At The Moon was written by Lee, Daisley and (lyrics) Ozzy. No one involved with the recording has ever said that anything on that record was leftovers from Randy. Ozzy loved Randy and sure would have said so if that had been the case.

And Ultimate Sin is the heaviest Ozzy record ever.

Jake rules and was the king of that franchise. (Though Crowley and Over The Mountain have probably never been topped as stand alone songs. IMO)

  • What are you talking about? Randy didn't write anything from Bark at the Moon. He wasn't credited for any of it for one thing and the songs aren't even his style. Ozzy wrote most of them himself.

  • ...where did you get this from? Bark at the Moon was indeed written with Jake's input and Randy died during the DIary of a Madman tour. Clearly they had not started work on another album.

  • What a phenomenal voice Ray Gillen had. It's like he had Rob Halford's range and Otis Redding's soul combined in one voice. Such a shame he's no longer with us. R.I.P. Ray.

  • Come on... Gillen was a Coverdale clone and little more. Almost every casual fan of 80's metal thinks this song was by Whitesnake... Guess why...

  • ADVENTURE BOUND SCHOOL OUT-SIDE OF CHARLOTTESVILLE V.A. 1985 THRU 1987 IF YOU WAS THERE AT THAT TIME HOLLA @ ME @ merishane ON YOU-TUBE !!!! CSC/09 IN LYNCHBURG V.A.(U'S'A')

  • Great sound and picture quality. Love this song!

  • god, i miss all the awesome guitar players.

  • ROCK N ROLL

  • JAKE = GOD!

  • Fuck yeah, go Badlands. Jake rules.

  • you, this song would be ten times better if David Coverdale was singing it, but this guy still sings pretty good

  • you are so full of crap, This dude blows away coverdale.

  • Jake E Lee is The Best!!!! love u...

  • omg... this is SOO GOOD!!!!

  • sounds like great white/and led zep, great band anyways.

  • i want jakes tone

  • i love the way ray didn't need to go run around like some like some mental speed freak to try to be entertaining.

he just sang his songs with passion and power blew every 1 away with plain old talent.

this band was rare treat for any 1 who appreciated rare talent and music delivered with a no bullshit straight ahead set of balls that is sadly lacking now.

i noticed a cpl of ppl saying its hard to get the cd i have this on vinyl hehehe im lucky :)

  • JAKE E LEE KICKS ASS

  • keep looking on ebay, that's where I found my copy.

  • i wish i could meet jake. his fuckin awsome

  • I don't care how old this song is...It STILL KICKS ASS!!!

  • cause yesterday¨s gone , dreams carry on , will badlands ever return?

  • probably not since the singer is dead and he was a big part of the sound

  • jakes rythms are so awesome. noone take advantage of spaces between notes anymore.

if something is cool nowadays its usually the note choice, they always fill up all the space nowadays.

    does that make sense?

  • you on about ghost notes?

  • no man more like lets say were in 4/4 time the smallest thing you want is 16ths. so you have ---------------- possible slayer would play something like xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and jake would go xx--x-x-x---x--- not hitting everynote possible but leaving space in between i was stoned when i wrote that comment
  • lol, its not the most unique thing to do?! But i guess you were stoned to make that comment lol

  • ur right....where randy filled space w/ runs, etc - jake does it w/ chord fragments, etc....KILLER tone and vibrato... ian's voice is godlike...they could have been almost USA's led zep....so why does God take ian and hacks like vince neil are walking around....? !

  • it's Ray Gillen not "Ian"

  • Man they were so awesome. Its too bad Jake and Ray couldnt get along, and then Ray passing away. Such an amazing group of musicians.

  • Jake was the man fillin some tuff shoes but anyway this tune sounded better when it was every single tune on whitesnake87... no offence to Coverdale and Sykes

  • Ray may have had great God-given pipes but it was the training and vocal coaching that Robert Fitzgerald gave him that brought it out. Very few singers out there without any training under their belt

  • really...? how do u know about that...? cool....i'm gonna google him now...thx

  • Gillen RIP!!! Jake E Lee for the win. I still enjoy Jake E Lee period Ozzy the most (note how I said enjoyed and not best guitarist for.)

  • The term "Supergroup" is overused, but Badlands was definitely one--without a doubt.

  • Definitely a "super group" of that era!

    RIP Ray Gillen!!!

  • Class of 89' Baby!!!!!!!!!

  • Jake e lee is the the man on guitar. he is the best. YOu know he turned Ozzy down. Where is Jake e lee today?

  • Obviously someone does not know their music history. Jake did not turn Ozzy down, he was in Ozzy's band for two albums and tours. Then decided to go out on his own. Meaning now you had two groups putting out great music. He left to put out his own music.

  • A young American David Coverdale!

  • -that voice is awesome

    and so is the JAKE

  • i just think ray gillen is the sexiest man god ever created. there will never be any like him again by far

  • Badlands had a raw bluesy tone that I dug back then. Still sounds pretty good. Alot better than the hair-band stuff that was big back then. I'd rather hear this than Bop-skinny-bob or whatever it's called.

  • dude might i say "you are an idiot"

  • his voice sounds like dio

  • I don't think he sounds like Dio gruener, to me a bit like David Coverdale maybe. That's just me though.

  • Jake E rocks :)

  • this band is so underrated!!!!!! unbelievable! They all have awsome skills. Wooow and jake E. Lee, damn he kicks ass, pure feeling in his fingers in every sigle note. and Ray gillan's voice is fantastic

  • ture that!

  • RIP Ray! Great Vocalist who never got the credit he deserved

  • IMO - one of the very few bands in which each player was a master at the top of their game- unreal how good this guys sound-flawless- shame they were not more popular

  • "alecia68 says: shame they were not more popular"

    Yup, i agree

  • I don't think Ray sounds like David Coverdale, nor does he is a rip off of Robert Plant(as many have critized). BADLANDS is a band of it's own.

    To each his own opinion.

  • totally agree- especially when you listen to ray's work with sab. definitely a band of their own-great line up of musicians

  • @Mestizo1971 well said

  • man this dude sounds just like David Coverdale but thats good

  • 3 pieces instrument. But so powerful that the goodness of Jake and The Badlands are.Forever in love with this band.

  • I totally agree, this song totally kicks ass!

  • I got to see Jake with Ozzy many light years ago and he's an incredible guitarist in my opinion.

  • You're right!Jack E.Lee was the best guitarist that ozzy ever had after Rhandy Rhoads! In his group Badlands he demonstrate how talent he had!

  • He may be so, or maybe beaten out by Zakk Wylde. Either way, they are all legends in their own genre

  • Zakk wylde isn't even good, he uses heavy distotion to make him sound good, and uses a pinch harmonic every other note.

  • SO GAY!!!only joking...JACK'S KILLER!!!

  • I agree, they were one of the most underated bands of the time,I found the tape with this song on it in '99

and played it til it broke.

  • Ray Gillen. Enough said. The guy had pipes built by God to sing hard rock. Awesome.

  • These are some of the prettiest men ever. That said, this band was amazing. They were all extremely talented and weren't cheesy like so many 80's hair bands. I feel they were very underrated. A shame what happened to them. This music is what all rock should/could be.

  • Don't forget Eric Singer on drums!

  • this the best song from them !

  • Still badass after all these years.

  • badass band!!! RIP RAY !!! love the voice and the band!

  • Ray Gillen and Ian Gillan are not brothers, but are both great rock vocalists!

  • the singer is ray gillan (rip bro.) brother of Ian gillan (black sabbath / rainbow)

  • It's ray gillen and not the brother of ian gillan.Ian gillan was not the singer of black sabbath/rainbow. That was dio. Ian gillan was the singer of deep purple/black sabbath

  • fuckin dumbass, DIO was rainbow/ black sabbath, not ian gillan, learn your fuckin rock before you end up sounding stupid again

  • The G'd Ole' DAZE!

    ♫♫"FAN"TASTIC"♫♫

    ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫

    Thnkx 4Sharn'

    ~XoX~

  • Great guitar solo. Jake rocks!

  • my friends dad has that exact bass in this video, but he got an orange splash airbrushed on it now, it sounds so nice, sick ass bc rich

  • This guy is better than Coverdale

  • your a fuckin retard! Have a clue about rock and roll

  • I don't see Tawny Kitaen on the hood of his car.

  • And that's a good thing! :)
