I was 14 going 15 when I first heard this song. Taken, fascinated, enamored by it, as you suddenly are by a particular song or voice, without understanding why & what.
What strikes me now is that even on my first hearning, I got the point that the line 'a man needs a maid, just someone to keep my house clean, fix my meals, and go away' should not be taken seriously. But that this was a desperate man, too much in love, too much in pain, who let his heart grow cold for fear of being hurt again.
