Her vocal runs are always for show, rather than to emphasise the emotion of a song, and her belting range is always strained. If you listen to both versions you will notice how smooth and easy Kelly's voice is in comparison. I don't mean to hate on Aguilera, it's just annoying when people over rate her.

Kelly's talent doesn't just come and go. This is just a different style of music from what she does these days. Try listening to one of her performances of Up to the Mountain, I think you'd see a difference between that and maybe something like SUBG.
