you told that you love kreyol but you didn't spoke kreyol one time

sorry for my english im french

  • Creole isn't a race. It's a type of language that originates from a pidgin (a contact language that blends elements of 2 or more languages that is used when people of different languages need to communicate).

"Creole" is descended from a pidgin, the only difference is that it possesses it's own native speakers with linguistic expansion and elaboration. Creole doesn't just belong to people of Louisiana and New Orleans, there are creole languages all over the world.

  • To all of you, stop fighting. Creole does not refer to color. It is the mixture of any Colored with a European. It is a mixture or different races like Native American, African, European and nowadays we have Chiney who are Asian Creole. Let say any one who can trace 2 of these races can call him/herself creole or mulatto as it used to be called. The word creole was mostly for the descent of Slaves borns in the Antilles (French Caribbean). At the end, though, Jesus knows no color!

  • BRAVO CAMEAUX, YOUR NAME SAYS IT ALL, YOU GOT A CREOLE NAME, OR LET'S SAY FRRENCH, A LOT OF PPL OUT THERE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT CREOLE. AND THEY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST CREOLE

WE NEED TO SUPPORT CREOLE SPEAKING IN AMERICA, FOR , IT IS AN AMERICAN LENGUAGE.

I HATE WHEN THOSE STUPID PEOPLE TELL ME "SPEAK ENGLISH"

  • You are from Chicago? lol

  • @IslenoGutierrez Chicago was settled by A Haitian Creole and for Your info, It too was a French possession. My Louisiana Ancestors go back to the 18th Century long before the Spanish took possession of Louisiana My ancestors are veterans of the Battle of New Orleans & All of Them live throughout the State of Louisiana .Many left Because Your Ancestors chased them away with their Racist ways. I'm a Louisiana Raised in Chicago. I live in New Orleans in Gentilly and also California..So what !!

  • @augustinecomeaux

    I'm creole and love it..

  • @IslenoGutierrez

The term Creole (Spanish - Criollo) was introduced in 1590. It derived from the Latin word “crear”, which meant, “create.” In 1590, Father J. de Acosta decided that the mixed breeds born in the New World were neither Spanish, African, Indian, but various mixtures of all three, thus a created Race

Garcilaso de la Vega, "The Inca," writing in the early 1600's, tells us: "The name was invented by the Negroes. They use it to mean a Negro born in the Indies,

    Lets Stop it here

  • @augustinecomeaux I know this already, I'm not doubting that the name Creole was given to Blacks in Latin America, But in Louisiana that usage was not in use to describe mixed race people at the time. The French/Spanish got wind of it through the Spanish and Criollo became Creole. In New Orleans, the White French Creoles were the first to use this term in the Colony of Louisiana. They built an entire society around the name. That's why when you go to the French Quarter, you see the word Creole.

  • You want documentation, go to the Loyola University website and search Kate Chopin. There is a whole lot of documentation. On both types of Creoles.

  • @IslenoGutierrez

Why should I go to Loyola University to research this Lady. She's no authority on Free Persons of Color and she's certainly not a Creole of Color..For that matter she is neither a Historian She Writes novels so It's a moot issue.. Maybe You should pick up a Creole Book and get the other picture perhaps You can learn something about Other..The Real world is not Exclusively reserved for Whites

  • @augustinecomeaux Um, Kate Chopin was a Creole from centuries ago. She does not live today. She was an author of books on her culture as well as the Creoles of Color. She wrote books on French Creoles and Creoles of Color. Her heritage was Creole. I actually have picked up many books on Creoles. There are two kinds of Creoles - The French Creoles, um the Whites like me, and Creoles of Color or also known as Black Creoles - um, Mulattos like you. Done. Ok there it is. You happy.

  • Kate Chopin was a French Creole living amongst the French Creoles of the French Quarter centuries ago. I believe she knows what she was talking about. As far as Mulatto Creoles, yes you did exist occupying the middle ground between the French Creoles and the slaves. You were a free people and did own things too. I don't doubt that for a second. I much rather believe in the truth than lies for personal gain.

  • I 'm not denying you exist, slaves brought to Louisiana, once arrived in New Orleans saw that there was a group of people being called Creoles. From my research on Kate Chopin and her books written, the first time Mulattos and Blacks were referred to as "Creoles" in New Orleans was when the Americans were moving in across from the French Quarter, they begin to label anyone from the French side as "Creole", when that happen, the Whites assumed the name "French Creole".

  • Omg dude! Where do you get your info from? I actually took a Louisiana Studies class in college here in Louisiana, I read numerous short stories and novels from Kate Chopin. She talks about the French Creoles (White Creoles). She says the French Creoles of the French Quarter being responsible for the culture and architecture of the French Quarter. Go look her up.

  • @IslenoGutierrez

Who Cares What Kate Cholin says...She speaks for Your community not Ours lets stop this negativity ..She's speaks for The European not the Multi Racial Creoles Who were not even given the time of day in Ante Bellum Louisiana..Again stop throwing this sort of thing up in Our Faces listen to the truth and not someone who glorifies White Creoles..Do You really know anything about the Creole of Color other that what You hear others say ??

  • The Mulatto Creoles of Louisiana, came after the White Creoles in New Orleans. Go research it. You can't hide the truth man. It is what it is. The French/Spanish Whites first started calling themselves Creoles. Then due to interracial relationships with Black women and the newly arrived Americans moving in on the other side of Canal street, Mulattos started to be called Creoles as well. The Whites then took on the name French Creole to distinguish themselves from this "new" group of Creoles.

  • @IslenoGutierrez

Good for You .You know Your Own History but not Ours.I don't care where You got Your Info from It is a reflection of You & Your Family's point of View & nothing else..You show me Some documentation and I'll be tickled pink, in the meantime I suggest You learn more about the Creole Culture before You start making assumptions. Creoles have been mixing With Whites & Native Americans from day one .are You telling Me that The White Mixture of French does not count for anything

  • French Creoles (White Creoles) did not speak the Creole French of the Mulatto Creoles, but they spoke a Creolized Colonial French. Go do your research. You say I know nothing of Creole Culture? I am part French Creole, and part Louisiana Isleño Spanish. I know my heritage. I extensively studied this in college as well as in grade school. I got oral histories passed down from the elders in my family. Believe me, I know this culture well.

  • I have a friend from Cuba and he told me that the Criollos or you know it as Creole in english, are the descendants of the Spaniards or the Whites in Cuba. He said anything that is called Criollo in Cuba denotes that, such as Mojo Criollo, which is a marinade associated with the Spaniards. There are many places in Latin America like this. So, here is my conclusion, you exist and we exist, Mulatto Creole and French Creole, so tell it so, Creole is not exclusive to just you.

  • @IslenoGutierrez I have no idea just where You got all this Mumbo jumbo from but I'm amazed. .Creoles was a name given to the first Born African slaves in the New World.Creole is a Mixture of African & French & is spoken in Louisiana, Haiti ,Africa, throughout the New World,on the Islands off the Coast of Africa & in South America. Many Louisiana White Creoles also speak Creole which they learned from the Slaves Who were considered Creoles way before The Spanish took possession of Louisiana

  • @augustinecomeaux Excuse me sir, this is not mumbo jumbo, first of all I am a native Louisianian from New Orleans, La. I am part French Creole, and part Isleño Spanish of Louisiana. I studied this in school and I study this topic on my spare time. Yes, slaves did come up with the word, but that was in Latin America, in Louisiana, it was the Whites of French/Spanish heritage to first use the term applying it to themselves to distiguish themselves from foriegn born French and Spanish.

  • @IslenoGutierrez Slaves brought to Louisiana were already Creole speaking. You are forgetting that White Creoles adopted this word from Creole Slaves.I am also a Louisiana Creole & I've been hearing this myth put out by "George Washington Cable "& believe Me it's far from the truth. All My life I've been hearing People who know very little about Us or Our Culture claim that We don't exist & are by products of Other Cultures.Enough is enough. It's Time We Creoles took control of Our Culture

  • @IslenoGutierrez

.Many Creoles Were never Slaves. They Built the French Quarters and Brought their Skills from Africa. You Might tell Your source of Info to stop reading outdated Racist Dictionaries.Creoles Are not anyone Who says He is.It's insulting & very Politically Incorrect.Creole is a Bonified Culture and is not an off spring of the French or the White Spanish People It's a combination of the three. Please Please Please pick Up a Book instead of listening to what other People tell You

  • @IslenoGutierrez

Just Why are You trying to discredit Creoles and Their Culture when You know absolutely nothing about their History. It is well Documented that the Original Creoles Were African a Word Borrowed by the White Europeans .I've been studying Our Peoples History for over 20 years& I know You don't have a clue as to Who or What is a Creole. The only thing coming from Your mouth is that Creoles Come in all colors but not in all Nationalities. We may be Mixed with them all but that's it

  • If you search the internet, you can find lots of information about the "French Creoles", the White people of French/Spanish hertige of the French Quarter. The mixed race Creole came along later on in New Orleans' history. 200 and some odd years ago in New Orleans, when you were speaking about the "Creoles" it always meant the Latin Whites of the French Quarter and nobody else. Sorry, but this is the truth. Today it is in reverse from that, but we still exist.

  • The Creole culture of New Orleans doesn't really focus on one group, rather than many groups of people contributing to one culture. Of course there are White Creoles and Black Creoles in the New Orleans area, but they all contributed to make the "Creole" culture. Such as the French, the Spanish, the Italians, the Germans, the Africans, the Irish, and Indian to a lesser degree. All these people contributed to the "Creole" culture of New Orleans.

  • I know about this, the first Creoles of Louisiana, the White French Creoles of the French Quarter of only French/Spanish extraction. In the past, the White Creole men had sexual relations with Black women and those children were Mulattos, but to ensure they were not treated as harsh as Blacks, their mothers deemed them "Creoles", once this became common, the White Creoles changed their moniker from "Creole" to "French Creole", to distinguish the difference between Mulatto and White Creole.

  • i am half creole asian and african

  • Im half creole half mexican but this guy is right most of my creole family looks like this guy.... were from northern louisiana... im tiered that black people say were in denial..... their is black in the mix and french and spanish and native.... But if you look at a mexican you dont say they are half Spaniard half Native they are just mexican... just like creoles we are just creole....

  • @ckfastback As my family always put in. In Northern Lousiana, if you were to ride the bus during segregation, where would you end up sitting? With the black people. Almost ALL african americans are mixed, creole is not a completely separate race, and the only reason it was ever considered such was to create a racial hierarchy to enforce old antiquated self hatred such as paper bag tests.

  • @sidittygal my grandmother actually went to all creole school. and the people that worked on our farm for our family were black sad to say they werent allowed in the house and my family actually looks more white than black.... you say blacks are mixed but they still look black and have black peoples hair.. my family is fair skin with color eyes and speak french.... cane river look it up....

  • @sidittygal the last time black was in the family was during slavery. Metoyer a frenchman and a black slave. after that the mixed would mix with the mixed after two hundred years of just mixed people you still think they are black.. when we dont even look black or share the same culture... A mexican isnt considered to be either Spanish from spain or aztec/mayan they are just mexican mixed people new culture. blacks are mixed but then they mix back with black.. dont tell creoles what we are

  • Creoles are Whites of French and Spanish Heritage with origins in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Go google it.

  • @IslenoGutierrez

Creoles are White Black & Mixed Race.Go Wikipedia it.You've been reading these Racist orientated Dictionaries for Too long. It's time You thought for Yourself. It Is Well documented that the First Creoles were Mixed Race & Black . Creole in Spanish means to Create.I'm a Louisiana Creole as well &m I don't need anyone else telling Me what I am & Just Who I should Be.Nice Try.Stop trying to dis associate Us.Creoles are World Wide not just in Louisiana.Do Your Ancestors speak Creole?

  • @augustinecomeaux Nobody is trying to disassociate you from anything. All I am saying is that, there are White Creoles in the New Orleans area known as French Creoles. The Mulatto Creoles are called Black Creoles or mixed race Creole. French Creoles that are known as French Creoles are White people of French/Spanish mixture in the New Orleans area. By the way, I trust a dictionary more than Wikipedia where anyone can type anything and pass it off as the truth.

  • @IslenoGutierrez

  • @smartkitty991 I'm a bit con fused..Not all Creoles come from Haiti..We are Louisiana Creoles and My Grandparents speak Louisiana Creole, which is similar to Haitian Creole..Some of Our Ancestors come from Haiti...Augustine, My name is Haitian If You remember, during the Haitian Revolution in 1804 over 20,000 Haitian Free People of Color, Blacks and Whites fled to New Orleans and Cuba..Creoles are World wide, in fact We are the Oldest Minorities in the America's. We are proud of Our Heritage

  • @augustinecomeaux Yeah, duh, I know! As I mentioned earlier, i'm haitian too! i come from a long line of black hatians, and three fourths of my family ARE from haiti, Fyi! i'm not saying there aren't any creoles in louisana. i was just asking! i'm just as proud as you are to be haitian! don't be getting confused.

  • You're right, Creoles haven't been getting their just dues. It is a people. I hope that Creoles, whichever outward color, are able to put Creole on the census. You just go ahead brother, you do your thing. I am Native American and the Black people who married into our Nations were Louisiana and Texas Creoles and I am very proud of that fact. I haven't always been aware of our history becasue we are northerners. But Creole pride...Creole pride!!!!

  • I think you are thinking of this other Creole website called Creole New Orleans (dot) type pad (dot) com and Augustine does not own that site! A man name Theodore Duplesis owns that site and yes he is ignorant but not all Creoles are like so stop prejudging us all!

  • I've been on his site French Creoles and never did he leave out the African ancestry of Creoles so what the hell are you talking about? And here on his videos has he ever denied being part black! What do you think Mulatto means? Stop accusing people of things just to start mess!

  • HEY AUGUSTINE. I LOVE YOUR POSTES. finaly someone to tell people taht vreole isnt just a type of seasoning! haha i comented on another of your videos but it think in some cases i responded to you when i was trying to do so to someone els so dont take nothing badly. I dont fully agree with you on osme things but mostly i do

  • Amen!

  • Good for you. I think many people feel that they can generalize the "creole attitude". Which often times is not correct. I personally am proud of all my mixes & our culture. There's nothing wrong with being happy with the traditions and environment in which you were raised. The problem is that most people are not respectful of the fact that we Creole's have traditions, a language, food & a history which we just want to acknowledge without others feeling that we're trying to be disrepectful.

  • oH SORRY i didn't finish listening to u talking lol

  • You sound like a Racist to Me..Your hatred is a sign of Your own insecurities...Stop hating and get a life.Sorry I don't fit Your mould

  • Im creole by the way

  • Well when Jesus returns to earth` he wont be looking for color` he will be looking for Believers. And then hopefully we as children of God shall truly find Peace in a colorful place call Heaven.

    Amen

  • tell em!

  • So your arguing with her because...? Why do you care about how she views herself? Mixed ppl are allowed to be mixed. It doesn't mean they hate any part of them. The problem with black ppl (generally) is they jump to that conclusion just because someone calls themselves mixed instead of black...oh now they must hate being black. Wrong.

  • I never said anything about white people claiming me. THEY don't have too! And I really don't care. :]

  • And just where does Creoles deny their African ancestry? Nowhere online on any Creole website will you find where Creoles deny their West African ancestry so don't say ignorant stuff.

  • i'll learn how to spell la. later...

  • Why the silliness?

There's no Creole "look". That's the point of my posts. It went over your head. We are ALL COLORS. Black, white, and in between. Kinkdy hair, wavy hair, straght hair. Blue, green, brown eyes.

As I said, my cousin is Creole & WHITE. Not light skinned, but WHITE. Her sister isn't. Interesting huh?

We have Jamaican, English, Haitian, French & Native Am ancestry from Louisiana. We are just Creole.

Mo pas kone (Je ne sais pas) boxtrot, seems you keep grabbing at straws.

  • So for the last time, our family and quite a lot of people in the Creole community are just saying we are Creole. Not mixed this, and that.

Thanks for the dialogue. I hope you continue to stay in touch with your Creole heritage & community & keep it alive!

Maybe you should attend the next NSU Creole conference. It could be eye opening for you as well as other Louisana Creoles.

  • O.K. of Course there are Creoles throughout the

louisiana Purchase Territory and there are Creoles throughout the 50 states And ????...

You're right Canray, Bois Sec and Amede Probably did not Listen to Zydeco ,although they Created the Style and there are over three million Creoles throughout the U.S. and I'm sure not every one of them like Zydeco, so whats Your point ?

  • Creoles are Racially and ethnically mixed .Creoles are part Black, White, Indian Spanish and French just to name a few.Race is not a defining characteristic of being a Creole.Creole is a Culture not a Race.We come from Louisiana and have Our own Culture.some still speak Creole and We all kind of eat the same food,Gumbo,Jambalaya,Shrimp Creole, enjoy Zydeco music and have strong Catholic religious roots..but that may not always be the case.more importantly we have strong family ties in Louisiana
