1) With Dr. Paul in office, our National Guard & Reserve would be at home to take care of what they were structured to take care of.
2) The states would have more money because the federal government wouldn't be taking our money.
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that our federal government is a complete mess & makes a complete mess out of every single thing it touches.
why don't we have flood insurance? i never thought of this until now but ron paul made it so obvious. of course! there's too much risk for the corporations and why have the government pay for it and put risk on people that don't even face the dangers of hurricanes. he really is a champion of the free market
He is so spot on with American foreign policy, but some stuff he says makes no sense. Anyone else notice the long, rambling and disconnected response he gave to the FEMA question. He basically said he would let people fend for themselves.
hold on- u r missing the point little child. Most of the help that actually got through to Katrina, was NOT NOT NOT through FEMA & centralized buraucracy. it was through people, charities, & people organizations. it was through voluntarism not compulsory waste!
Which is better? Huge Compulsive Bureaucracies taking in a ton of money yet not even handling a penny properly? or having a bunch of charities & people help groups that voluntarily give almost 100% of the money received directly to people in need?
Volunarism: Money recieved --> Charities --> (99%) --> People in need
Fema: Tax people--> 10-20% already get lost--> 10-20% gets to fema --> all that money disappears --> not even a penny manages to get to the people
Right... the people would "fend for themselves." Absolutely. The government did little to nothing that helped. FEMA went around barking orders & doing nothing. Any help that the people received, they got through volunteers & direct, personal charities. The federal government was a mess mess mess. Remember the women sitting outside the arena/convention centers with their babies & no fresh water or diapers? That was FEMA. The People finally got in & helped, not the government.
He's been in Congress over 30 years, singing the same tune. He doesn't waver. He has integrity.

We don't need some young, idealist who doesn't understand how our system works or how it's supposed to work. We need unwavering strength & leadership & wisdom
@esigus I like how you say "we don't need some... Idealists." My friend, Ron Paul's ideas about the free market controlling everything the epitome of idealism....
The difference is that Dr. Paul's ideas/ideals are the same as those of our Founding Fathers.
Santorum's ideas/ideals are those of a young, big-mouthed, ego-maniac without a clue about The Constitution nor about our nation's history... ALL THE WAY TO TODAY. He has proven that he doesn't understand the most basic fundamentals of our nation's government, how it was started & why it was structured the way it was.
He won't ever get elected however because he would make it difficult for the people who make a lot of money to keep making a lot of money. That is sad.
How? he wouldn't be interfering in the free market int he first place. Actually he's about freeing the market. We haven't had a free market in 50 years.
He is very smart and his ability to look at these different problems and approach them with common sense is what his biggest virtue is. I am from Canada and I think that this kind of thinking from a country like the US would be great for the entire world.
I wouldnt even say he is a genius or a hero. Its more like 'How simple are the things he says and how workable are the solutions?' It non conformist common sense. Ron Paul 2012 Vice President Dennis Kucinich. I am from England and even I know good this will be for the world and peace and fairness.
How in the world could you be against this message. There's no one in either party talking this much sense. The real world is what we make of it here in America, our home.
Hes right, I was in Iraq twice; there was a bunch of useless, senseless no good crap just sitting around with no purpose. Like the Chow Halls on the big bases that we hardly went on... those chow halls are better than the ones we have here in the states! I survived just fine in Fallujah on MREs and scorching hot bottled water.
It's great to hear first-hand accounts from military in Iraq supporting these ideas. I think a lot of politicians make stuff up to try and speak for our military for their own ends, not neccesarily with the troops best interests in mind.
There is an inherent contradiction to the idea that economic markets of scale will help us adjust to needs, based upon demand, while simultaneously saying that poverty is the result of corporate windfalls resulting from deficit spending. It just doesn't jive.
The market needs regulation, for a variety of reasons, but predominantly because government can do well, so long as governments seeks to adhere to the idea that seek to do what it can for the common good. The (overly simplified and quick) answer to poverty is expansion of education and manufacturing.
But not inefficient (read: government-run) educational systems. Teachers are better paid, but are not necessarily more effective. If education was privatized the people whose childeren are going to the school would demand better results or teachers wouldn't be working their for long.
This idea presupposes that education is equally valued by all throughout our nation. By privatizing education, there would be an even more unequal distribution of funds to schools, based upon the population in the surrounding areas. This would hit our inner city schools that hardest. People like me (teachers) are sometimes the only ones that talk to teenagers about the value of education.
Having taught in an inner-city school which was Title 1 (see: Teach For America) I know better than most that there are too many teachers who are paid with everyone's tax dollars who don't deserve a dime for their public service.
It is very true that not all people value education equally- but I mean this in a different way than you.
I think everyone likes to learn... But not everyone likes to learn what our society tells them they ought to be taught. When people are free to pursue their interests, they will learn what they want to learn, and they will become proficient in the skills they need to pursue their interests.
What does a musician need with calculus? What does a welder need with finger painting? What does anyone other than a professional basketball player need with throwing free-throws? We, as a society, are trying to produce millions of da Vincis- millions of Renaissance wo/men- who can talk quantum physics, quote Shakespeare, debate the causes of the civil war, play a Vivaldi concierto, and run a marathon...
And I'm sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but we are not all born with the tools to achieve these great things... That is why da Vinci and others were so amazing.
Have you ever looked into the history of eduction, prior to 1913, they had some good ideas then. I'm sure that WE THE PEOPLE could come up with good ideas for our schools. We could even look into what is done in the HOME SCHOOLING programs (non-gov. education.)
Jezus, this is the first time he didnt answer the question. How would the federal government react to an enourmous natural disaster? How does the federal government help the state, or should it.
He answered it, he was trying to do it politely, but the answer was no. The constitution does not grant the authority for a department like FEMA, and we are better off without it.
If there is a disaster there are many ways to deal with it. You've seen the outpouring of support to the Red Cross and other non-governmental organizations to assist victims of natural disaster. Also, if the government would stop bailing out fools that live in flood plains and don't buy insurance then the insurance market would definitely fill the void.
In case you had a problem reading what i wrote before: there are many ways to deal with a disaster. I'm sure, just like what happened in CA there will be firefighters from all over the country that will help fight the fire. FEMA isn't a federal fire dept. Oh wait, you wanted me to say that the government should steal from the populace to provide helicopters, I'm sorry.

I live in Ireland and this is the popular opinion in Europe and support for America in Britain is very low at this time,as you may already know Britain has already started the pull out of troops.I dont mean to be offensive ,but as one of your Allies,We can honestly say GET RID OF BUSH or Ally no more, this man Ron Paul is telling the truth
Mr. Ireland: Sadly enough, most Americans (and yes I am one) are well-intentioned, but are too dim-witted to understand when they are being duped into believing a lot of things that 'just ain't so,' by a bunch of politicians who, although intelligent, are propelled by their own greed and nothing else.
...Our public school system is a left-wing propaganda machine, and our mass media is a mix of left-wing and right-wing propaganda - - both mediums being funded and influenced by the same corrupted, powerful individuals. We are slightly behind the rest of the free world (thanks to our very deliberate indoctrination by the above said parties) in understanding many of the issues that will ultimately cause us to self destruct in about 10 years.
...Thankfully, we have one hope, along with many followers: his name is Ron Paul. Please give generously to his campaign. Our future literally depends on it. Dr. Paul 2008!
It seems everything connected to intellect is labeled left-wing, hence school is a left-wing thing, too. But quite frankly speaking, school is exactly the place to develop one's intellect. But not just that! It's the place to acquire skills for social exchange, to learn how to educate oneself and how to test one's opinion through civilized argument, bearing in mind that the oponent may be right.
The real problem with the education system is this: Neither government nor big companies want the electorate or consumers to think for themselves, people might just recognize deception, falsehood, and lies everywhere they look. So what better place to start indoctrinating and fooling people than at school?
But it doesn't stop there, the media is very good at keeping people from thinking, a celebrity's broken fingernail is far more important than a classroom's broken window or a student's broken future.
Well, FEMA worked just fine until Bush and CO. got a hold of it. They WANT FEMA and other gov't agencies to fail and look bad because they want to gut the protections working class families have fought for all these years. During Andrew in '92, which was larger than Katrina, FEMA worked just fine. It's all about who's running the show. You elect folks who don't think FEMA should exist and guess what, you get a shitty FEMA.

FEMA was orignially set up to provide FLOOD insurance unavailable through standard insurance companies. If the organization were returned to a single purpose and not spread thinly to other unrelated matters it might actually function.
However, private industry could insure against floods. Another option is to make available better information to homeowners, renters etc as to flood planes and risks associated therewith. Choosing to buy there comes with risk.
P.S. If I recall correctly, many years ago I read a FEMA flood insurance brochure which clearly stated if you don't pay the premium you aren't covered! Yet now, Fema (as Dr. Paul states) comes in and hands out money, among other stupid things, like what always blazen says, building camps.
1) With Dr. Paul in office, our National Guard & Reserve would be at home to take care of what they were structured to take care of.
2) The states would have more money because the federal government wouldn't be taking our money.

P.S. If I recall correctly, many years ago I read a FEMA flood insurance brochure which clearly stated if you don't pay the premium you aren't covered! Yet now, Fema (as Dr. Paul states) comes in and hands out money, among other stupid things, like what always blazen says, building camps.
