Looking forward to Shogun 2 Total war. It looks amazing and everything i didn't like about MII and Empire looks to be ironed out so far plus with amazing graphics.

I think Rome 2 maybe next, but they may think that they will get labled as lazy just re-doing old games, (no problem with me but this is how companies think) so maybe they will do something new and extreamly bold? Only time will tell :P

@MindofScience3 That would be a little to big, but yes there is a couple of games that had attempted this before. The result was the lack of player possible in a single game, due to the distance and other lag within the server, or the game takes way too long to complete, and the general (the few who plays the game as a strategy game) may need to stay on the game for a whole day straight. Of course, you can switch generals midway though, but sometimes no one likes to be general.

It simply had the best gameplay out of all the TW games.

Shogun 2 would also be great or maybe they can find another great location/period of history that doesn't involve gun powder.

They could focus a game on the Mongol empire. Kublai Khan ruled the largest empire in history.

maybe early 17 century... 7 years war as a maximum maybe. Pretty interesting although has gunpowder. The interesting thing was that it wasn't perfect, armies were implementing it recently on these years.

Rome needs desperately a better diplomatic system and more modern graphics... I don't know how much an ew Shogun would sell, maybe it would be a hit with a even better game engine. Maybe a newer version of Rome could be a stepping stone to this

The defining feature of a Total War game is the movement of armies on a strategic map and real time battles whenever 2 armies engage in short, decisive battles.

Modern warfare doesn't have that. Battles in WW1 and WW2 lasted weeks and months and stretched over huge areas of land.

Take a look at the Hearts of Iron series if you want WW2 strategy.

The latest possible date for a Total War game is the mid 19th century and even that is questionable.

In fact, I would suggest a relative population measurement (of which takes into account a percentage of the world's population) would seem more prudent. Under this analysis, the Persian empire would be the "largest". Other variables to consider are comparative advantages of the empire vs comparative disadvantages of the "ruled".

Total war is not for this... try playing Men of War. Battles in that era was more platoon based, not on regiments of 100-200 men. Fighting is more flexible than in older times

medieval total war 2 had many flaws and limitations, compared to rome.

Firstly, there are only 3 varieties of settlements for each settlement level... middle eastern. south europeon... etc....

In Rome total war, all cities were randomly generated.

In rome total war, there are more unit abilities and other features.... Rome total war is also more easy to mod...

I prefer Rome total war, because the gameplay is better too.

One of the things why NTW is so great is becouse there are no crashes and bugs. there are minor bugs but very few people have seen them. all games have bugs and ofcourse NTW are no exception. but they are barely noticeble.
