@darrylportelli I've never used EZ drummer but from what i can see from their website it' doesn't look like the kind of program that could run it. It is a VST plug in though
Hey, man. I'm just thinking to buy this one or LASS, but I can't find the further description about strings portamento in the EWQL offical site. Can you tell me how does it's portamento work?
Wow.....awesome samples, all I have are freebies.... I have to punch my stuff to make it realistic so it sounds anywhere near as good as this. I posted a video response (Drums of War), see what I've composed xD
Great job man. I'm looking at east west instruments and they seem great. Of course one must have great talent, as you have, in order to effectively use the instruments.
no :( only silver has *some* muted trumpet sound, namely staccato and sustain, and they definitely don't have the flutter tongue! :( i think it's only in platinum
@theguyi26 According to the website the Gold version now has all instruments and all articulations. The only thing that makes platinum version better is 3 mic postions and 24-bit samples
nice,I liked this. Eastwest samples sounds great but their PLAY software is terrible,I am having nothing but problems with it. The support is useless, please read my Goliath review on harmony central,if anyone is interested.
Have you downloaded latest updates for PLAY, and all your other EWQL VSTs? And if you don't have more than 2Gb of RAM, its pretty much useless. And if you have 4Gb, using the /3GB switch helps a LOT.
no you don't need 3 gb of RAM to use it, otherwise that would mean that it's disk streaming function is crap.
Yes I have downloaded the updates and all their crap. After all the problems and the bad service, I won't buy any other Eastwest products, that's for sure.
I would have bought Kontakt had I known, but hey, we live and learn....thanks brother
I still suggest you keep these products... might be just your computer. I was very lucky everything worked fine considering all the (serious) problems people seem have with it.
Luigi, if you bought it in Europe, I'm sure your consumer protection agency have a different view on the non-transferable licence. By most European laws that is a part of a contract that isn't enforceable.
It is worth a shot contacting your CPA just to get their opinion.
Further more a product that doesn't deliver what it promises, even if it is a software intsrument, can't just be written off like that.
yes I have bought it in Europe.....I don't think that what you say would work, never heard about the european laws that you speak about. When you start to use that software , you agree to the terms and conditions of Eastwest's license (non-transferable)
also it's been several months since I bought it, I don't think I would get my money back. Sure thing is, I will never buy any Eastwest product ,ever again. Worst purchase I have made.
Hi. it seems you have knowledge about PLAY and RAM and such. I was wondering what kind of option that is you are talking about. I do not have play, so wondering what exactly that 3 GB switch is? is it for 32 bit or 64 bit? I'm kinda in doubt of getting PLAY, but I've heard people have problems with it , more than the original Kontakt player? What are the benefits from it in your opinion? are they alot or just a fe extra's? I know the Kontakt version is not 64 bit, so for 64 it's def. better.
32bit winxp with PLAY (piano gold/orchestra gold/choir/stormdrum2/RA/goliath/voicespassion) All run well on my machine (Q6600 quad 2.40Ghz / P5Q-E MBoard / HD4870 512).
Type "3GB switch boot.ini" in google and do a bit of searching (just copy the last code line and add /3gb) or make a backup.
Just remember "think twice before chosing PLAY"
I have thought about 5 or 6 times, and i guess i was lucky. Couple of minors rendering problems but it just takes more time.
Just one last thing: The 3Gb switch only resolved my memory issue with rendering. on 2Gb i could not render anything when i had less than 200-300mb left of RAM and was limited to 7-8PLAY instances. With 3Gb switch, rendering problem is solved but at around 1000RAM left or 14-15PLAY instances, I cant save my files without corrupting it. So i make at least 2 backups for every song with lots of memory requirements.
I can always render, then add more, render, then add more, but its slow. Good luck
So ' normally' a program in windows XP/32 can only use 2 GB and with this boot change thing, it increases it to 3? Ok, that sounds very usefull. I'm gonna look up on it, since i'm really not a comp pro. I have 3 Gig, so it means cubase can only use 2 gig of the 3 gig I have? Isnt most of the other gig used for XP..? or do i get that wrong? Are there any negative side effects with adding this 3 gig option?
Yeah rendering is always possible, but it's such a pain in the ass...and feels like you have to decide if things are final or not (cause they're hard to edit)
No, had the same file corruption problem with normal RAM usage. As for you having 3Gb, I really can't tell you, i don't know much i'm afraid. If may suggest, you could upgrade to 4Gb as 1Gb of RAM is not too expensive these days(i think).Oh, and i think Cubase has better compatibility for PLAY than mine(FL Studio). You seem better suited.
You can always give PLAY a try and upgrade if you need to. But you can't sell back EastWest products once they are registered on an ilok Dongle for use.
Lol. actually I think your software is better suited for play, since I still use the ancient cubase VST 5.1 from 2001. I've been using that version and the one before it for about 10 years, cause I'm comfortable with it. They have this option where every note has a differnt color (a = red B = orange etc in all octaves) so i really know those by head, like reading notes). Then cubase came with the SX series and everything was totally different so i sticked with it...i kinda need to upgrade though
Hope you figure it out. You know, when i spent 1600$Can on the composer edition, i took a HUGE risk as it was my first EastWest product ever. I just figured if nothing worked that i would just wait a year or two to get a 64bit OS and more RAM... but by then it would be 600$ (heck during shipping, the price dropped by 500$)
Just to say, be patient and don't be angry if nothing works because nothing ever works most of the time on computers. But just like most problems, there is a solution to it.
yeah, the 'not working' part mostly goes for audio software with huge libraries and video edit. for graphics and such its always pretty stable. Stuff like eastwest is kinda made for computers that have the speed they have in 5 years..so yeah it does all sound great, but it runs pretty poor in comparison. It's like running XP on a commadore 64 sometimes lol
When the game Crysis came out, most PCs could not handle such a game. Now most can. Just a matter of time (if you have it of course). Just like Quad core processors where not fully usable on most softwares and games when they came out. Life goes on, so does technology.
So all WIN XP's 32 can actually support 4 Gig (or depending on the motherboard). My pc isnt that old. So then 1 gig for XP and such, and really 1 gig extra for cubase. Or would my cubase be to ancient to use it? By the way, do you know any program that has that option with the different colors for each key and semi key?
Nope i dont know about that (colors). But with all due respect, I think you need to get used to a normal piano roll ;)
I dont know if you have the money but yeah, Cubase might really be too ancient. (Read up EastWestSamples -dot- com and check out system requirements for each products for more info about each software compatibility)
That cubase that i use has just that same piano role and such as all other software...jsut the colors of the tones give you an immidiately view of the things your'e doing. You dont have to draw an invisible line back to the piano on the left side to see if you're putting your ' notes' on the right height. It's just very handy. Not sure why they didn't keep it. I have a friend that did change to SX, but hated it missing too
Okay, this will be my last comment to you (nice conversation by the way) as its not really a forum here ;).
When i try to teach my father this program (he is horrible at computers), he cannot get used AT ALL with the vertical piano featured on DAW softwares, even though he plays piano since he was a kid.
I guess its a matter of "what you started with, you always like", but knowing when to move on also is.
Yeah same back. I love to move forward, but if they take handy options away, it's going backwards at the same time too. I will take another DAW when I go 64 (since then I get a big improvement in return)
Cubase ancient?? i don't know what your on about they have some of the best vst3 support their is. You would have no problems with running east west gear on cubase 5
With Fusee on the percussion... well on half of it. It did sound sparse, although never sounded like a loop to me. It flowed well, but some quicker embellishing percussion could fill this out more very nicely. Great job and really unique style. Has a very good atmosphere about it. I like!

I agree with "doozerb" really interesting score, nice and fresh. I hear people composing just epic sounding scores that all sound kind of bland and generic but yours is great, Im thinking of getting Eastwest gold.
Wouldn't be so bad, except that Hans Zimmer's sound isn't that easy to copy well, especially the way he layers orchestral and electronic textures... it is wonderfully epic.
But you're right. Most people can't live up to the Zimmer. Hell, only Steve Jablonski's work on Transformers came close as his protege...
i think that hans zimmer is so unafraid to experiment that it shows in his music .. to stand out in the buisness .. you must do that .. you don't have to follow every other composer .. most of these film makers who graduate from top music schools will be some second hand film composer doing bonus work in a soundtrack .. i hate that their is no variation is film music it's all the same shit ..
I think you're dead on the money there. Funnily enough, was listening to the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack today and even within that album there's a lot of diverse stuff going on. Then I saw that he scored Wallace and Gromit: Cures of the Were Rabbit as well. Totally different.
On an off note, was listening to Michael Nyman's score to Gattaca. Beautiful stuff.
@abelizable The sole job of a film composer is to capture the emotion of the image or scene and heighten that. If you want experimental stuff go listen to experimental stuff instead of complaining film music doesn't have variation.
