I don't give a damn what Charlton Heston's political beliefs were, when he stepped in front of the camera he was great. I sat mesmerized from everything from 55 Days in Peking to El Cid and still would.
Yep only two other actors that can match Warren Oates in death scenes and they are Lee Van Cleef, and Jack Elam....Think about it...BONANZA...WANTED DEAD or ALIVE....GUNSMOKE...THE VIRGINIAN..
THE RIFLEMAN...plus the western movies...not to mention gangster movies and
tv crime related shows..like THE UNTOUCHABLES...They were shot by men and by woman and by lawman....
Yes...Western bad guys were shot dead alot in those classic days...THANK GOODNESS for all of US!
@johnnynoirman ooppss sorry. I mis read the passage. ironically warren oates and i attended the same high school and are from the same city in kentucky. the drama department at the university of louisville has a plaque in his honor. i remember warren oates best as sergeant hulka from stripes
Look at all those fukcing great actors. Ben Johnson, Richard Harris, Chuck Heston....and Warren Oates steals the fucking scene! What an amazing actor! He was the best.
This is an outstanding cast of legendary actors, including Richard (A Man Called Horse) Harris and Warren (Stripes) Oates as well as James (In Like Flint) Colburn and
charlton heston's idea to have peckinpah as director....and then back stabbing peckinpah treated heston like dirt.

Hollywood stinks.
Heston's character was duty bound to do this!
Just like in Red River Waynes character was correct to want to hand a deserter who indangered ALL of his friends who trusted in each other..
This kind of writing showed the hand of Marxist Nation destroyers IMO

Underrated film by the master of modern action films, Sam Peckinpah. I love, in that scene, how Richard Harris holds his chin.

@johnnynoirman you forgot the grand daddy of them all, THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY which was Lee Van Cleef's best death scene EVER!
SocratesTheGadfly 1 week ago
I was talking Warren Oates not Lee Van Cleef.
Ona side issue Chuck Connors actually shoots them both in an episode
"The Rifleman"..It would be interesting to find out who died
more often in movies and tv..Warren Oates not Lee Van Cleef?

Hey don't worry about it..
Thank you for your marvelous story Socrates!
I hope someday you can make a video the Warren Oates
plague...It would make a great video i believe.
Because for me..
Warren is an important and unique figure in cinema history,
Very realistic...natural....you never saw him act.
They don't make them like this boy anymore.
