  • CG is better at around 48-50mm back from leading edge, not 55mm as in instructions. At least that's what we have found in experimenting with ours.

  • "shhhh" ... lol.

  • I'd RATHER be Waterskiing on that pond of GLASS ! ! !

  • ei manicaca

  • landing was leet

  • i soooo want an rc sea plane.

  • This thing spent just about the entire flight in a left turn. Needs counter rotating props at the very least.

  • hydroplane

  • i just finish put it everything together....tomorrow im goingg to a lake and im going to try it for first time

  • This is the old Guan Lee cat, I have the same with brushless power (much better).

They also come with a clip on water rudder which will help a lot.

Fuselage is very weak,as are the wing stays & the supplied receiver & esc`s are rubbish (had a motor go into reverse in flight, & the rc range was pathetic).

    Re-named mine the crashalina.

Now however a new version is available, with a much improved fibreglass fuselage & a single brushless moter driving the props via belts.

  • You shhhh! And the landing was amazing!!!

  • You shhhh!

  • hey did u have to asemble it when u got it?

  • nice shhhhhhh lol

  • what a piece of shit.!!!!

  • @craigtripney you can obviously tell they did not do their homework -.-

  • I think it's lacking power! Is it using brushless motors?

  • @yuv06 no standard brushed motors on nickel metal hydride cells way underpowered. There is a brushless upgraded version and is a whole different story from this one.

  • @JetFlyyer Thanks

  • @yuv06 no problem

  • Is its rudder disabled?

  • 1:30 Hard and bumpy landing :P AND, 1:40 wtf is that sound xD

  • 1:00 Hard and bumpy landing :P AND, 1:40 wtf is that sound xD

  • pretty crappy sounding...my mini super cub has more power than those two dinky things...

  • nice

  • The reason it only turns left is because they dont have counter rotating props just buy one reverse prob switch the wires on one engine and i betcha itle fly alot better, im talking about the brushless, the brushed sucks every brushed plane sucks except indoor planes lol

  • looks like it's a lil left side heavy?

  • I have the brushless version of the Catalina and it not a particularly easy plane to fly. It has a short tail movement which at full speed it a little unstable. Mine is also modified for runway use. I use the rudder combined with the ailerons to do the turning. The foam is weak and won't take much punishment. For those who are good fliers and fly using the rudder will enjoy the this plane. For beginners and those with low stick time I recommend you steer clear. .

  • shhhhhhhhhh

  • tell ur friend shut up

  • Listen at the end..he says "Oh Shit" then they end the fottage....just listen

  • Your gay so is your plane

  • it looked like when it took off that it was going to flip over

  • The Nitroplanes Catalina is a pile of CRAP! The Geat Planes electrafly Catalina is way better.

  • the reason he was being ssshhhed was because he was saying the plane still wants to go left, watch the footage , does not want to go right, does it!

    Leigh.

Nice plane if you like turning left all the time LOL

  • It's better when people talk about the flight while you're flying it!

  • its the smrt car of rc airplanes the winds faster than that thing

  • I bought this plane on eBay. Not at all happy. I think they put a bigger battery in this because mine does not get more than 7 feet off of the ground. The throws are virtually not there, and it is supper cheap construction. To anyone who likes seaplanes and does not want to spend a lot, save your money for a little longer, and buy a Cessna 185. Got to toysonics , and then under RTF planes, it is right there in FM, or 2.4GHz! I just bought one and it will be in Sep. 10th! Jacked!!

  • What a great R/C electric seaplane subject, and a nice piece of flying! Thanks for sharing!

  • loves turning to the left on take off lolz

  • @FantasticBob7000 Boy oh boy, is that the kind of comments you leave on youtube all day Bob, picking on people's videos. Grow up....seriously...

  • I bet it'll fly really well with contra-rotating motors to eliminate the torque.

  • Looks like he is trying all he can from it from torque rolling He needs a 2 lb weight on the rt side of the plane heheheh

  • that's a horrible airplane

  • so happy i wasnt in there for that landing!

  • those motors sound brushed

  • @JetFlyyer you can buy one in brushless however

  • Looks like they used a grumman gooses uperwing cwling nacells on the cat body

  • @nitroplanes were you flying it stock or with a lipo?

  • Leaning leftside.

  • @NikosReegas yeah do u think it can even TURN right?!

  • for just a little more money you can get the great plane's catalina much better than that foam pos. save your money spend a little more and get a much better plane. that one is way under powered you can tell buy how it wobble's + i wasted my money on one over 2 year's ago i know the brushless one is not much better.

  • how fast is this plane???

  • at 2:55 it looks like its sinking

  • SHHHHH whadda loser

  • a little unstable looking but i still want one, really cool lol u almost hit urself

  • I guess 2:27 is the pilot getting back at the camera guy. =] Nice plane nonetheless.

  • Mine fell apart, piece by piece under normal flying. First off the control lines are flimsy. I changed those after having some problems with them. The motors I received had a loud rattle while running(sounds like a gas plane almost!)... not good. After about 10 flights(without a single crash) one of the motors broke off the plane! The METAL motor mount broke in two - not the foam, not the plastic, the METAL mount... Plane flies great, and is really fun, but falls apart quick!

  • Very bad company in my option i have bought many planes from them and they couldn't even give me a better set of motors to get it off the ground. Now it just sits here, what a waste of $100 something

  • @atvmaster281 - yeah, bought the brushed version of this plane and it couldn't get off the water (albeit with some very light chop) - not powerful enough. can fly it by hand launching it, but again WAY underpowered - i wouldn't fly it with much if any wind. definitely get better parts, especially brushless motors. otherwise is big and gentle to fly.

  • @atvmaster281 Hey the reason ur getting bad planes is cause ur buying all the brushed setups, brushed is ancient! u probably dont know much about rc so you just go for the cheapest, cool looking planes you see. GL makes not so good products so never buy from them, nitroplanes has other manufactures too

  • DONT BUY THIS! i bought it from nitroplanes and it was so underpowered i couldn't get it off the ground. I contacted Nitroplanes and they gave me nothing but a hassle they told me to email them pictures of the plane to prove that it wasn't broken and i got NOTHING back. Then about 3 weeks later they put an upgraded version on their site.

  • @atvmaster281 it's GL's fault, Nitroplanes are just resellers...plus you can buy BL motors and esc urself.

  • @shangsandy87 Yes but when i buy a RTF package from Nitroplanes i shouldnt have to upgrade anything right away, the plane was so under powered it go about 5mph on the water and no faster.

  • @atvmaster281 the brushless is way overpowered, but I wouldn't recommending buying another guan li. Go for the Great Planes catalina! A little more pricey, but WAY BETTER parts and I'm sure it will fly better and last much longer!

  • wow major tail heavy. SHHHHHH, just make a nice landing. and don't say anything about the motors that sound like rusted electric shavers. it's a great plane. really!

  • its tall heavy

  • u hit the water prity hard @ 1:30

  • Enlever svp les non patages atomaticque toute vidéo you tube il a un frodeur instalé

  • Sea planes are hard to land u can easy flip it or on the line such as that.

  • Super cool! Nice work!

  • lol good spinout at 1:40

  • You Turn the controller on first then the plane, Your fault not planes.

  • I LIKE PANTIES!!

  • It looks like the CG is way out of adjustment. It flys like it's tail heavy.

  • no it's just because hte props spin the same way.

  • reverse one of the motor wires and get a left handed prop

  • When you will post a video of the Icon A5 amphibian you just started selling?

  • its this or F15 for me, both seem awesome in there own way.

  • If you buy this strip out the junk electronics and treat your purchase as an "airframe only". On my first flight the radio failed completely and at some point during the flight on of the pinions started spinning on the motor shaft. When I contacted Nitroplanes customer service they told me to order replacement parts. I don't think so. It's a nice flying airframe but the parts are junk. Order some inexpensive gear from a place like HobbyKing and you'll come out ahead in the end.

  • i vant to take off and land me Vild Hawk from water - seal it up good first - i just plane vant a vater plane -- hmm @ 3:31 a wingtip float sunk- theyre a little too little i guess

  • Relember... on some missions, they didn't have single engine performace for the first 8hs !

Is the CG problem real ? Have been fixed ? What % MAC ?

Thanks for the video, very useful .

    Jorge

    ( Cat pilot wannabe)

  • I Cant get this darn plane airborn

    any suggestions?

  • Is it easy to use and fly for beginner?

And what about snow, since im canadian :P

  • catalinas were cool. what scale? 1/24?

  • Brilliant and simple. nice to see

  • The last time somebody told me to "shhh" like that I slapped the shit out of them

  • shhhhh!

  • @HyperShadic777 HAHAAa WHat a Rude LITTLE BIT○H lol i hope that old man shusheed him lol and his gay wannabee seaplane

  • Does this one have brushed or brushless motors?

  • it comes in brushless and in brushed

  • What are the diffrences? Thanks.

  • two toys in one!!!! a boat and a airplane!!! COOL!!!

  • just finished building one of these...it comes with a tail rudder extension that extends through the fuselage and takes rudder control down into the water...I'm wondering how this plane handles as is?

  • lol (at the end) "oh shit..." lol XD

  • wouldnt the electronics get all messed up if the plane crashed?

  • if it flies like foam it must be foam, and yes it is lacking on the power, much better with lipo and 450 brushless set up i have one and i rate it a 3 out of 5.

  • Always wanted an RC Catalina, An RC Float Cub and an RC Float Beaver. I have a Hobbyzone Super Cub LP on floats but I'm not that good at it yet!

  • Ola. Watt kind of engine use the plane? Saude. Abraço from Portugal.

  • Of course the real Catalina was a pig to fly and very slow. Looks like CG is out, and is there torque steer from two same rotation direction motors? Beginners with seaplanes are best starting with a stable single on floats - Cessna or Cub. Good video.

  • I reckon the balance point is a little rearward of where it should be on this evidence.

  • No softer landing possible?

  • remind me uncharted the first mission lol hahahahahahaha

  • yeah needs more power

  • is this cat from bigdotunclestore?

  • what actually was sead: is that better? no it's still a pile of crap SSSSHHHHHHH!!!!

  • r u talking about thisyou can get it for a brushless upgrade

  • is this plane with 2 same spin motors or 2 different spin motors

  • looks like it having a hard time staying up like hes holding the upper elevator the hole time

  • Seems pretty unstable, what if you upped the motors??? Also, you need near glass-like water for this thing...

  • i have upgraded mine to brushless out runner motors was very cheap and now i can prop hang the thing like a heli!!

wasnt expecting that but now flies superb

    (4 what it is)!!

  • Wow that was cool that was a really nice plane

  • SSSSHHHH, HES RECORDING!!

  • haha SHHHHHHHH!!

  • Problem deffo is both motors running in same direction.

  • guys any ideas if i buy the catalina stock without the upgrade, where i can get the brushless motor and lipo's and what exact ones i need.. and if i do infact actually need the upgrades or the stock fly's fine, i live in jersey the channel islands so i have to really buy everything off the internet no model shops really over here for this type of thing, so could somebody write down some internet sites for me, cheers!

  • Sure looks tail heavy to me. Counter rotating props may be a problem, there are not that many sets to be had.

    Nice scale model.

It does look a bit short - is that the video? The PBY was longer, wasn't it?

  • i am going to get one. ::DD

  • Should have contra rotating engines (like the real thing) then you would not have this yaw problem. I reckon it is also way tail heavy and rudder trim is out.

Could also be the tip floats which could very easily induce huge lateral inbalance if not set up properly.

Well handled especially as it was virtually stalling most of the time!!

  • The yaw issue is due to inefficient fin area. The full sized plane had the same problem, the pilot was always jumping on the rudder pedals to keep it straight.

This problem gets worse as you scale the plane down.

  • Very nice model :-)

  • I bought the plane, I can't even fly, I launch it of a lake and every darn time it will try and do a back flip it is so tail heave, had to make a lot of cold swims out into that lake.. O and its near impossible to turn on the water

  • It needs to be a little more nose heavy when the plane is banking you can see the tail swinging about

  • that thing could do with a little nose weight

  • well what do u expect?! its not a top end plane guys, its just for a bit of fun, and not intended for first time flyers, u cant be picky with cheap production chinese made rc planes, if ur gonna b picky than be prepared to spend upto $800 for a very good version, and nitro not electric, i have this model in australia baught off ebay and it is a fun little thing to play, value for money seeing i got it at $80AUD, or $60USD

  • lol you can hear the flyer say it doesnt control good and the camera guy says SHOOSH!!!

    :D :D :D

  • I hate to say it because I've bought stuff from them in the past, but I wouldn't trust anything you see on the nitroplanes site. If you're thinking about buying anything from them, make sure you research it first & see what others have to say about the model. Nitroplanes has been caught misrepresenting many models' performance in the past by linking to vids of an upgraded or modded version while claiming that it was footage of the stock version.

  • i agree

unless you buy a big name brand from them dont get it

  • I agree i bought this plane from them about a month ago, and i cant even get it airborn its very underpowered. i cant get throw it and get it to fly. and now i see on there website they have an upgraded brushless version. :(

  • looks difficult to control, the design may be flawed.

  • Looks a bit tail heavy. Also, a full size pilot I know flew this plane professionally and he said that it was directionally unstable in the yaw axis.

The full size plane didn't have enough vertical fin area in his opinion.

A model would have the same characteristic and even be worse because of scale effect. A good solution, I think, might be to install a cheap gyro on the rudder function.

  • looks a little unbalanced

  • i think thats the torque from the engines: could be wrong though

  • Nice plane!

    i would really want one.

  • Nice comment

  • Nice comment!

  • I agree

  • he said it floats

  • looks like you flew that one all stock...i couldnt get mine to hardly rise with the stock battery.. so i put a lipo in... now im having trouble with it overheating.. here is a video of a day when it was doing ok

  • that looks almost like a gruuman goose

  • Here's the diesel engine that would fit the bill. Powerful and light with very reliable throttling.

    youtube(*)com/watch?v=Eu1ucHl9SXc&feature=channel

  • All that drag from the unretracted tip fins is making it far worse.

    Differential ailerons might help too.

  • Needs some tail weight, some down thrust, some outthrust, counter-rotating props and especially, two DIESEL engines.

Our club had a full size pilot that fly the big ones. He said that you were constantly correcting yaw with the foot pedals. He said that they didn't have enough tail fin area for yaw stability becasue of the twin engines being outboard of the fin which did not provide prop blast over the fin.

The model seems to suffer from this in spades. Add clear plastic sub fins.

  • yeah the a-10 barely gains any altitude and just stays at about 20 feet above you stock. I would probably get the Catalina if i were you as the a-10 isn't very reliable.

  • Help?? i was just gonna buy the A-10 from nirto planes but then i found this sea plane. what should i get people online say that the A-10 stock doesnt fly and is a waste. How about this sea plane is stock worth buying

  • like ruckerjd01283 said, i'd wan't the wing floats the retract after take off. That is one thing that made the Cat unique from other flying boats. The retracting floats

  • Should make the wing floats retract to the wing tips like the real Catalina and would be good to have the landing gear like the real Catalina to

  • It's a BITCHEN model, but it appears to fly a little tail-heavy. I'd LOVE to have one, but I'm afraid I might flip-over upon landing. GREAT LOOKING model!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • IT seems to allways fly in a left wing down roll attitude. And looks like it stand some rudder mix in the turns. Oh and more power. Bet its still fun though. I love RC Float flying

  • Does this do stuff like rolls, loops, inverted flights etc, you know the stuff that the other 4 ch airplanes do?

  • Vy the looks of it's slow speeds, heck no.

  • can this airplane fly upside down

  • It seems pretty responsive, so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. :)

  • Why does the camera man shush the pilot at .38 seconds? Was he going to say that the plane was leaning to on side? Maybe it needs lateral balancing? I want one but am not sure because of this shush.

  • I have one of these, it's pretty cool. I've flown it off water with allthe stock parts. It flies fine, really fun, cool slow flybys. the fuse was prejoined from factory but leaked so I had to fill the seam with some epoxy. it's a little under powered to my liking, so I will now begin upgrades with computer radio and lipo batt, maybe brushless too. we'll see, but even stock it is ton-o-fun! I would buy again!

    happy floating!

  • just bought 1 ONLY 89.99 NOW!!

  • Hey, thats a 'Pond Plane' !

  • 2:30 Best Landing of the bunch

  • look like that left side wing little heavy than right side. it's fly okay. thanks for show on this youtube.

  • I think thats cause he was stupid and did not take on into the wind rather it was on his side.

  • it needs more wait in the front

  • i agree it looks kinda tail heavy on take off

  • the engines sound just like those full scale turboprop engines from the 60`s. the rolls royce dart, i think they where called :)

  • slabeeeeee

  • sweet! 0:48 is the best!

  • wow it likes the left hand side

  • what kind of landing was that

  • I suspect that the model would fly better if you co-ordinated your turns with rudder, it seems to be suffering from adverse yaw in the turns, alternatively a bit of differential (more up than down) on the ailerons would probably help. You could possibly experiment with some rudder/aileron mixing on your tx as a quick test to see if the turns are improved. Nice model, looks like a lot of fun.

  • this the electric one?

  • LMAO @ the "SHHHH"

  • lol battery dies, while it's in the water, "ahh shit"

  • buitiful landing.

  • lol ooohhh

  • "SHHHHHH"

  • 0:36 rofl angry much?

  • CG looks to be off which would explain the way it flys... nice pilot skills to keep it under control. was it trimmed ?

  • now that is cool

  • That thing flies like a pice of sh#$
