dhimmicarter, this may not work for fleas but i did discover after i made this video that another option is to wet a wash cloth and add a small amount of biodegradable soap, then scrub the cat down.. most cats will take to this much more easily and you can still clean faces, paws, etc..

That is beyond brave...my experience, if you have a "hard cat", just skip it. I tried it once with a hard cat, the cat sunk it's teeth into my arm and didn't want to let go. I ended up at the emergency room, because it turns out cat saliva is one of the things that kills their prey. So being her prey in this instance caused an infection that the ER people told me could get really bad. In one day, my arm was getting very infected. Yes, leave the hard cat alone!
You never wash a cat unless it poops or pees on itself or something like that. You just don't randomly wash cats. And with Redkin? Those chemicals can be toxic to animals. Glad they had a great bath.

Actually that was not the best way to wash a cat...Its better for you to stand and have your arms at sink level. Put the cat in the sink and do not run faucett water, the sound scares them too...Have gallon containers of very warm water to pour on the cat, have your Dawn ready, the warm water is interesting to them...Do not fill the sink with water, have someone hold your cat while you pour the warm water on him/her and then lather, and rinse well...
Environmentalists use Dawn dish washing detergent on animals cause it doesn't harm them but it cleans fleas and dirt and best to use them the commercial flea collars and oinments on their skin...
Not really good to use shampoo on animals, it is still highly detergent and when they lick it off, their will still be residue cause you will not be able to rinse them well since they want to run, so they ingest the residue and they can get pretty sick for a frew days, its toxic to them. Dawn dish washing detergent is actually best, they use it on all animals, if they lick it, it doesn't harm them...Not toxic to them.

yeah cats can wash themselves..plus when washing an animal your supposed to use cat shampoo, regular human shampoo can dry their hair out and cause irritation to their skin.

I was always the type to say no to washing a cat but we washed our Mainecoon a while back in the kitchen sink (that might be easier for you) and he seemed okay with it (just a few lonely meows). Try using Head & Shoulders. Friends I know say it works well and it's not overly perfumed. Maybe that's what Minky didn't like. Then again cats don't like water. Funny story about the fountain. I needed a laugh. There both beautiful cats.
funny story about Gracie: yesterday she and Minky were lazing about my patio in the sun. A neighbors came came over with a very tentative and shy meow, and Gracie attacked.. then Minky went into the attack as well, the cat ran off and Gracie attacked Minky. there were a fast moving ball of cats when Gracie fell into the fountain.. completely soaked,m this time it was her own fault.

I dont have a cat anymore, but if i did, i would turn on the shower with the glass door, and replace the scrubbing bubbles thing with kitty shampoo. then leave it there for a while. throw the cat in and then leave to go to school, jk about the school thing thing

For some reason Lance The Cat is my first cat Ive never washed (except maybe once or twice when he was small) but he's quite clean on his own. I may try sometime. I think he would be relatively easy. You are supposed to shampoo the head first. You see, if the cat has fleas, they will head for higher ground (the cat's head). If you shampoo the head first, you stop them in your tracks. Also I prefer to use anti-flea shampoo. Make sure to comb all the fleas out and drown them. They may still survive the shampoo.
BTW: Felines rarely need washing but when they do, make sure its with a shampoo designed for them. Using detergents that aren't for cats destroy their natural oils and can cause skin irritation.

I no longer live in a place where a cat would be comfortable. I still love them, though.
I would only recommend bathing a cat when they have come in contact with hazardous materials of some sort.
It's a risk/benefit thing.

yeah cats can wash themselves..plus when washing an animal your supposed to use cat shampoo, regular human shampoo can dry their hair out and cause irritation to their skin.

I was always the type to say no to washing a cat but we washed our Mainecoon a while back in the kitchen sink (that might be easier for you) and he seemed okay with it (just a few lonely meows). Try using Head & Shoulders. Friends I know say it works well and it's not overly perfumed. Maybe that's what Minky didn't like. Then again cats don't like water. Funny story about the fountain. I needed a laugh. There both beautiful cats.

funny story about Gracie: yesterday she and Minky were lazing about my patio in the sun. A neighbors came came over with a very tentative and shy meow, and Gracie attacked.. then Minky went into the attack as well, the cat ran off and Gracie attacked Minky. there were a fast moving ball of cats when Gracie fell into the fountain.. completely soaked,m this time it was her own fault.

hey Ramyun, thanks for the compliment, Gracie is a Champange Mink Tonkinese, which is a breed created in the sixties by mixing Siamese and Burmese cats..she looks siamese but has big green eyes. yeah sme people didnt get that i was the only one filming while washing the cats.

I dont have a cat anymore, but if i did, i would turn on the shower with the glass door, and replace the scrubbing bubbles thing with kitty shampoo. then leave it there for a while. throw the cat in and then leave to go to school, jk about the school thing thing

As an old cat phreak this stuff is hilarious to me. If I'd tried this on most of the cats who have owned me they'd have torn my arms off. (BTW, if you think you 'have' a cat, you don't understand the relationship.)

Hi Tara, Ive always washed all my cats with relatively no problem but it helps a lot to start when they are tiny babies. For some reason Lance The Cat is my first cat Ive never washed (except maybe once or twice when he was small) but he's quite clean on his own. I may try sometime. I think he would be relatively easy. (I hope) hehe Great vid!

I rescued a flea infested kitten, gave him a bath every other day for about a week, he grew up liking water! Used to sit on the edge of the sink, splashing me with a paw while I did dishes.

Why Tara, why?Don't you know cats hate water? lol I raised quite a few generations of cats ever since I was a kid and the only time I washed a cat was when we recued one from a sewer. Cats really don't need to be washed, they keep themselves very clean.The person who said "sleep with one eye open" is right on the money lol

Wash a cat? What, you crazy? When my cat is dirty enough that he couldn't clean himself, he is happy to have me wipe him with warm wet towels. Easier on his skin I bet.

I feel your pain. After many years of cuts and scratches, I quit the "traditional" baths and went out and bought "waterless bath" wipes. I noticed that the cat wouldn't get nearly as pissed at me.

Your cats are super cute...the chubby cats are always easier to wash they sort of get wet and give up...hehe...i have a siamese also and man does he scream when we give him baths...i loved it...i love your cats! :)

You are supposed to shampoo the head first. You see, if the cat has fleas, they will head for higher ground (the cat's head). If you shampoo the head first, you stop them in your tracks. Also I prefer to use anti-flea shampoo. Make sure to comb all the fleas out and drown them. They may still survive the shampoo.

BTW: Felines rarely need washing but when they do, make sure its with a shampoo designed for them. Using detergents that aren't for cats destroy their natural oils and can cause skin irritation.
