the only sad thing from my perspective, is the jealousy Phil Collins has for the pre-Collins stuff. He claims this stuff is crap, pretentious, and that the reason the Invisible Touch album sold more is because it was 'better.' Utter bollocks and he knows it- he was just never the talent he wanted to be, shown by writing nonsence like Sussudio and One more night etc.

I couldn't agree more with you, and besides, playing Karma Kameleon, Can't hurry love, and other non Genesis stuff, live, and playing classic Genesis masterpieces the commercial way, proved one thing, the hunger for dollars and not the hunger for good music, that's why Genesis doesn't exist anymore, and Calling All Stations finally proved that ... Shame on Collins, Banks and Rutherford !

Its cool to see Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel interacting with each other during these shows, especially this song. Just knowing that the two of them would each become megastars for years to come and here they're just basically kids having a good time on stage. In fact, its cool that all of the Genesis members would go solo and have pretty successful solo careers in addition to Genesis. That is just a statement to the talent involved here. There isn't that same amount of talent in bands today.

Well, I must say, Hackett albums really bad after Defector?, bad compared to what, the commercial crap Genesis became, the Phil Collins band Genesis had become, connoisseurs know you don't have to make or sell millions or to get rich in order to get respect and recognition, good music is not for everybody, otherwise, ask Mozart, Bach, Stravinsky, Ravel, Wagner etc. etc. etc. ... And Steve Hackett...

just crap compared to good music. cured is shocking with the worst prodution values i have ever heard on any genesis related release plus the lyrics are shocking. what was that one about the dog without a bone? the follow up album had steve's own attempts at as you call it Commercial crap. eg Cell 151. beyond that, the acoustic albums aside it gets even worse. You cannot seriously put steve in the same bracket as Stravinsky!!!! now stop your being funny!!! it was a joke? right???

Thanks richi, and yeah, sometimes I'm pretty harsh on my statements regarding Genesis members, perhaps it's because there is no Genesis reunion with Pete and Steve or a new album, and of course there is no comparison with Stravinsky, it's just a metaphorical way of putting Steve in a good level, Cured was a project pushed by record companies, 1 or 2 out of 20 good and non commercial albums, and it's allright, but at least Peter or Steve don't play Karma Kameleon live, if you know what I mean...

During the Genesis classic line up, everyone was vital, perhaps with the exception of Mike Ruthrford, if that line up has gained recognition and appreciation after so many years since it disappearance it's because Gabriel and Hackett were there, and when the great Tony Banks used to play magic on the keyboards in a very unique and magnificent way thanks to the collaboration of those two members ... Tony's solo works are good but not trascendent like Steve's ...

I agree with that, Mike's performances during the Hackett-Gabriel era were excellent, as well as, as I said, the Great Tony Banks, but after watching hundreds of times each and every Genesis documentary and analyze them, I've come to the conclusion that Mike was the easiest replaceable member, despite his satements, and the final collapse of the band with Calling All Stations, proved and strengthened my belief towards Mike Rutherford, and Tony's failure to reinvent Genesis...Thanks.

I totally, utterly agree with you, and as I said before, he ( Mike Rutherford ) WAS, to me. an excellent performer, those arpeggios WERE magnificent, let alone the Philips's ones, so, what happened to him, besides, I do criticize him because of his statements and his dismissals regarding Steve Hackett or Peter Gabriel which are quite obvious in each and every Genesis documantary I've seen, thanks gr43 for you comments.

It's true that the overall sound of genesis was always dominated by the Banks/Rutherford/Collins trio,especially after the Lamb, but I think in terms of true innovation and research, Steve was the more interesting musician of the lot, we just didn't hear enough of him...Why? I don't know but I have my doubts.

My opinion is that Steve was always better off as a solo artist. He certainly added a lot to Genesis' music when he was a member, but I don't think he really knew how to integrate himself into the full band context.

Yep. The effect used by Steve in this song is an "EMS Synthi Hi Fli Guitar Synthesizer".

I know that Steve used an echoplex and a hi-fli. Are you talking about the "heavy distorted sound" on the lamb? (used on these tracks: the lamb, fly on a windshield, lilywith lilith, the waiting room...). It's played by Mike Rutherford on his bass with a fuzz or something like that.

@ikhnaton They used it also on the vocals. You can hear it on Cuckoo Cocoon. Some bootlegs you can hear them try on the vocals but it begins to feedback. I actually have an MXR Flanger Doubler rack that I set for a specific rate. I switch between the doubler/ flanger effect and by switching of and on i can get ALL THREE TONES on this song!. NOT EXACTLY the tone but really close. If you really wanna play this song fairly close try and find the MXR FLANGER DOUBLER RACK.

Bill Grahm filmed the entire show pro at Hollywood. Gabriel bought it is the rumor. He was not happy with it?? Trust me, I know people that were there and saw the cameras, three of them and they filmed it all night. The only good stuff out there is that German produced thing that Bill had a part in. Find it!
