  • I think that the composer should have gone with an African lead singer and choir, as they would have been able to capture the soul and depth of the piece better than this European Orchestra.

Also, the chorists and lead seemed to be rushing the piece, rather than allowing for the correct rests. This made the rendition of the piece seem too practiced and anticipated and not as spiritual and earthy as the original did, which i believe is the main reason why it appeals to us so much.

  • it sounds like there singing faster than the music

  • at the beginning everyone is totally out of beat, tho soloist is singing like under pressure :-(

  • what an aweful piece of work for so many professionals working together.... speechless

  • forget the singers' voices or swahili, the real problem here is that apparently no one can keep a beat.

  • ruined the song . This song is not rock

  • I bet all you guys who are saying rude things cant sing or play an instrument. mad cause you aren't talented? oh and btw, you try speaking a language you don't know!

  • Thanks for ruining the song!!!

  • The chorus rushes in the beginning...

  • that sucked balls. my high school is sining this im in orchestra and it sounds SUPER good......its sounds like it deserves a grammy compared to this

  • this guy totally butchers the Swahili!

  • this was so bad it was funny

  • I couldn't stop laughing at the lead singers expressions.

  • Video game lives show is much x 100000 better than this shit. It is just ridiculous show.

  • It's actually not that bad... they have a couple things to tweak here and there, but it was good.

  • GOSH THAT WAS BAD

  • Jesus, this is abysmal...

  • this sucks so much

  • hoolly shit!!! The singers are horrible!

  • For once, who the frick is liking this!?

  • WAY WAY WAY to fast

  • Wtf is happening... Why its so fast

  • this choir sucks so bad its funny!

  • Thanks for proving white people don't have rythym, folks.

  • ugh, HORRIBLE!!

  • orchester is very good, but he all singers sometimes weren´t with orchester allright.

  • why!!?? out of sync :(

  • They were way off the beat at the beginning. I have performed this piece myself and personally think they could have used a lot more practice. They did fine once they got back on the beat. The lead has a great voice and obviously takes pride in what he gets to sing, but he doesn't have the right voice for this song.

  • I think the lead singer do it well!

  • no description possible

  • 0:34, the music gets broken .

  • 80 people are cymbal

  • Out of sync. The lead singer got the words wrong! This song is "the Lord's Prayer" in Swahili and he made up so many words messing up the whole thing! It had the potential to be great, but was a disappointment :-(

  • None of them have played Civ IV.

  • hows it out of sync nerd

  • @MineshackOTS

How? The damn singers are being singers again, off-time as a doody.

  • @MineshackOTS singers are way off at the beginning

  • 78 people have a broken cymbal in their drums .

  • soloist messed it up.

  • Oh my god. My high school chorus sings better than this.

  • Too fast at beginning. Guy screws up in beginning. Nobody can beat Christopher Nab. Thumbs up if u agree.

  • Ew. Horrible.

  • in the begining they were too fast by a beat.

  • The lead singer ruined the piece...I am sorry whoever you are. You look like you were really into it, but the song just doesn't go with your voice that much...

  • @MegaJZ12345 agreed, he just raped the whole song!.. just like george lucas and steven spielberg raped Indiana jones :(

  • lame. Not NEARLY as good as the game version

  • Oh hell no!

  • They don't get that amazing feeling the Africans get when they sing this song..

  • Uye....

just.... take me back to the video!

  • OMG, it's so bad....

  • Ok...look,i truly love this song,i'm serious...but the singer here is...i'm deeply sorry but i don't like how it was done during this concert.

  • To be fair it's not as good as listening to it on Civ but it's not a bad version. You have to remember, this is live and nothing has been or is able to be altered. A recording, like for Civ IV, can be perfected after the fact.

There is a reason no artist, ever, has sounded the same live as they do on CD and no reason why a cover ever sounds the same. Different vocal styles, a different beat, and so forth.

This is a decent listen, not great, but i'll allow it.

  • 2:38 LMAO

  • WTF THEY RUINED THE SONG

  • Sorry if I´m being incorrect or disrespectful but this version is probably the worst I´ve ever heard. PS Baba Yetu is in my opinion one of the most beautiful songs ever made.

  • Lol this sucked ass

  • wow, i thought it would be some primative africian tribe singing this song or something, not a bunch of white people with european instruments

  • @MrEviloreo It's hard to get primitive people to do something you ask them to do.

  • A few timing tears, and a lot of parts sticking out of the ensemble. But I do love this song...

  • 2:40 cymbal hit

  • have u ever tried somthing this big? it would be incredaably hard to nail the song its a reallly good song

  • they butchered the song!!!!!!

  • @ErasmusPrime239 Must have had a tight deadline, the cymbal though, inexcusable. They broght out the cutlery... You can't rush music!!!

  • @ErasmusPrime239 You can't rush music! That's bringing out the cutlery, and the cymbal, INEXCUSABLE!!!

    FAIL

  • did anyone hear the ONE person clap as the conductor walked out lol...he must have a shit load of fans

  • Just....no....no......I mean did they even rehearse?

Great singers and orchestra, but i think barley any rehearsal was done.

Please, if you are reading this go watch:

    /watch?v=A4Pxc-iW5wM

and watch is song be played right!

  • @TheDeathlyNoob that verions is muziek in mijn oren. So much better.

  • what a disgrace to such a great song!!! eishhhh but i would have been great tho...

  • MAN! there must of been serious fold back issues!

  • I've seen better performances. Even by the VGL.

  • 2:39 Wow, that cymbal just flew right the fuck off...

  • It's a good try, the orchestra is good, but the soloist is trying to run away. he sings too fast and the choir just runs along.

  • Uneasy song, but this perfomance is great, specially for the instruments, even if it's a white man who sing ^.^

  • The guy's accent kinda kills it for me...

  • @lolinternetslol He does try to hide it. Ever listened to the dutch performance of Adiemus? (v=Vrhgk8Fa_QE) That's a real pain in the ass to listen to. :P

  • lol white guy singing swahili

  • @seraro In music; All languages are the same.

  • This song isn't easy to sing, haters. But the VGL version kicks ass

  • wow this sucks

  • Vocally, this is by far the worst VGL performance of Baba Yetu I've ever seen. The choir is out of rhytmm, and "prince charming", did he even bother to learn the lyrics?

  • I found the vocal performers quite confusing, Also, I find myself missing something with among the instruments. I argree with 'Alxbarros' comment at the instrument part.

  • if this was professionally performed (and it seems as it was), its sad that they'd be so off-beat in the first part of the song.

  • Comment removed

  • the choir and the orchestra were perfect, but.... the man was lame!

  • Games that have made an Impact on people:

Civilization I II III IV V

  • a bit of struggle at the beginning. nice comeback though. Not bad

  • Fail

  • lol I was not expecting a bunch of white people to sing this

  • Oh dear! This was terrible.

  • sucks ;/ realy sucks..

  • ...out of sync. sad, could have been better.

  • You people are copy cats this is an East african song;south africans don't even speak swahili and if only you knew swahili you'd find how they are singing funny especially the soloist but nice trial men you guys are good congrats,Applause

  • Dear God, do they charge money to play so badly out of rhythm in front of people??

  • music is too loud, it is hard to hear the choir

  • really bad...it's amazing that i can't find any good version of it, except the original one.

  • out of sync in the beginning... very unprofessional... but this guy... he doesn't have a clue what he's singing about... and that's why it's so bad...

  • 2:39 that guy just blows out that symbol

  • omg... this concert could have been a great success... nice orchestra, good singers, but OUT OF SYNC!!!

  • @yagerka ya this is wayyyyy out of sync even the soloist is off and he's trying to do a fake african accent too; so cheap.

  • The soloist guy seems too nervous. Drank too much coffee before the concert? lol

  • too fast!!!!!!! what a way to muller a great song

  • j'ai connu mieux .. ms simpa comm mm ☻

  • my school preformed the world primer of calling all dawns in its entirety and we did a way better than this guy and for the record our singer was white too but go check them out its waterford high school choirs you will know whitch ones to look at

  • I can't believe they let a cracker sing this

  • WUT IS THIS... HES' BLOWING A CLASSIC BOOOO BOOOO !!!

  • Worst baba yetu version ever. let the original performers play it. This just doesn´t work.

  • Ugh, songs are never as good when they're performed live

  • stop ! its not a bad interpretation ! Do the difference studio and concert version ! The singer is good and choral too. !

  • OMG THIS WAS IN HOLLAND???

  • I love this

  • Personally, they found the wrong singer for this song. He is putting to much emphasis on every single syllable. Just sounds wrong. But well done for the choir, and orchestra - besides the beginning. As for the drum set in the back...I don't get the same feeling as I do in the original. This is so upbeat...it's almost like a pop song. Good try, but no. IMO!!!

  • check out 2:38 onwards and watch the symbal fall off lol (btw idont know the proper name as i only play piano and guitar

  • @HJ152010 the proper name for what? the cymbal? I'm not expert but I still think It's still called a cymbal XD

  • Sorry but I don't like it.. :S

  • ROCK ON! 2:39, he just knocked the cymbal of the stand :P

  • Go on dance for the good Lord woo hoo!! very well done i love this version the best!

  • main vocal guy was simply amazing!

where was this? it sounds like she's speaking french at the end

the only bad thing i have to say is i think they embelleshed some of the parts a bit too much overboard which kinda killed the vocals

  • wrong kind of person to sing that

  • @TheAustnod Grow up, he's got more balls than you to sing the lords prayer in Swahili than you have :)

  • @eddieoxford I've got more than you :)

  • @TheAustnod You uploading Star Wars videos and tomahawk kills on CoD Black Ops totally contadicts your point.

  • @eddieoxford Hey why don't you and your key bored go take a trip to shuty town, huh?

  • can sombody tell me wat lagwig this is

  • @bookdoge12 Swahili

  • I agree with herbivore, "butchered" is the right word. Listen to the studio version (official video) it's the best one. The VGL performance is a little overrated because the fat singer sounds like he's trying out for Xfactor. The studio version is the only one that makes me soar :)

About this butchered version, well... 2:38

    I rest my case.

  • He totally butchered it... Im not racist or anything but this HAs to be sung by a black man and several black women. (Im white btw so dont troll me on this :))

  • @herbivore007 How does it matter? It's his voice you're listening too and that rarely differs between white and black people with regards to singing. You're bringing up an unnecessary point. Just relax and listen to the music.

  • @herbivore007 Once again it's demonstrated that whitey-bashing is not only the only socially-acceptable racism, but white people themselves are required BY LAW!!! to depricate their own kind. That's how far down the shit-pot this country has gone.

  • ...why'd they screw with it? It was perfect? WHY?!?!?!?

  • The Lords Prayer in Swahili :)

  • Seriously, this version has lost the very essence of Baba Yetu. Sometimes, changes are pretty good and very welcome, but this one got it wrong.

  • The description says, "No description available." Oh, how deliciously true. Baba Yetu FTW. XD

  • I think they could've done better with the dynamics :)

  • 2:38 Okay grabbing my hammer...... *hits* OH CRAP!!!

  • Why is the song so fast paced in this version? Lost all its feeling.

  • This is my opinion: This version is shit. I can appreciate the amount of effort that everyone involved went to, but really, it's terrible.

  • The main vocalist has a great voice... but not for this one... :(

  • Got a better as it went on, but they should have rehearsed the start with the vocalist a lot more... The vocals aren't well recorded - the choir just sounds like a mush at 2:40!

  • Please watch this one. This gives it shame. VIDEO GAMES LIVE | Civilization IV | PBS

  • @mark9241

I find this VGL version very overrated. For me, this Games in Concert 3 arrangement with drums, electric bass and brass section is much, much better. Just my opinion.

  • @alxbarros I guess it was the fact that a German man was singing it, and didn't know what it the song meant,- apart from his accent,- it was very overturning for me. But I do appreciate your upload. Thanks a bunch.

  • This version gives the real one such a HORRENDOUS NAME. The one that i saw composed by Christopher Tin was A LOT better. and the people singing it were actually Swahilian (Is that how you spell it?). I looked up the lyrics, and they gave it so much passion. This guy, just looking at him, I know he doesn't know a damned word he is saying, or what it means.

  • The Video Games Live version is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY better. Also, this is a Swahili song. Why is a white guy singing it?

  • If they weren't a professional group I'd say it's OK, but since they're professional, I say it's terrible...

  • white man stole our language

  • I really don't like this singer and think its sounds absolutely terrible compared to the video games live version but I can never dislike a version of this song because its just an awesome song.

  • 2:39 :O His cymbal fell off! Disaster! haha

Really enjoyed this though =) Great song.

  • Hey hey, I can actually see myself in the crowd at the end. I know I saw this video before, but I couldn't find myself then.

I, being a big Civilization fan, was really happy to have seen this live and as a surprise encore, even! They really saved the best for last.

  • They added little bit too much instrumentals.

  • Very nice. At the beginning, they lost the rhythm, esp. the orchestra, but after that, it was perfect. The main vocal performer is awesome, not only is he very original and cute in the way he sings, but he also looks like a prince from a fairy tale :)

  • @ufaxx It's not the orchestra who get out of time its the choir rushing. It is a bit of a shame as otherwise it'd be 100% amazing. You almost forget the mistake by the end though.

  • @funkiestmonk Agreed. It's a shame, though, as it might as well be one of the best implementations of the famous Chris Tin's Baba Yetu song. Just a little bit more practice, and it would be perfect, in my view...

  • These people were rushing like crazy. the choir was barely hearable.

  • MIs it just me or is everyone drunk ?

    They are not off beat!

  • @JoyC666 The song kinda starts faster than normal but it seems to calm down back to the beat in my opinion. So it's not just you.

  • sooo soo ofbeat and off pitch.... Maybe its because its a recording

  • without the embarrassing moments this would be the best "Baba Yetu" on youtube.

  • lol...i think they were perfect...

could you please tell me which ones were the embarrassing moments?

  • Nobody seems to be in sync.

  • Aye, true. Big shame, this would've been wonderful otherwise.

  • oh and his name is daan verlaan

  • the male solo singer is my oldest brother!! I am a very very proud little sister! :)

  • En wie is die zanger? Geweldig!

  • For me this was easily the best song of Games in Concert 3 (I'm a sucker for choirs and 'world' music) :)

btw, the percussionist accidentally knocks off one of his cymbals @ 2:40 (I remember this happening the night of the concert, at which point we kept looking at the percussionists. They had trouble not to laugh the rest of the song) ^^

  • dang this song is awesome....what language are they singing in? wish there was more info ;p

  • I believe it's African.

It is a very religious song.

I liked it, I was at that concert and I looked up the text on the internet.
