    --Betty :)

  • @CutePrincess05 Thanks for your great feedback! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • If you don't have cheddar cheese could you use mozzarella and cheddar cheese mixed? (its mixed in block form)

  • @colagice117 Yes, the mixture of those two cheeses would be good in this recipe!

    --Betty :)

easy & filling but kinda grainy.. more heat on the cheese?

    --Betty :)

    --Betty :)

  • I am just now finding sum of ur great recipes from years back b4 I ever found you on youtube! I have watched your meatloaf video, potato salad, pea salad with drizzling dressing as well. Looks like you have come a LONG ways in just a few short years! Keep getting better all the time! Love you & your recipes! <3

  • @1970sarteaga Thanks for your sweet comment! Actually, the recipes I did at the beginning were my *very favorites*, but they don't get much attention. I will admit that they are pretty hard to watch and my later ones are somewhat better. But you are right about where the best recipes are! Thanks for noticing!

    --Betty :)

  • Thank you Betty for sharing. I love you for that alone!!! You have made my husband a happy man, thanks to your AWESOME recipes.

You are FABULOUS. I'm so happy that you've taught me how to throw down in the kitchen. lol

    --Betty :)

  • I tried this and added some nutmeg - it's delicious!

  • Oh Betty do you think that this would taste good if I added some paprika and pepper maybe or would that ruin it? I just always end up putting pepper on my plate, but that may just be my taste.

  • @TheScarlettMakeup I think it would be fine to add paprika and pepper; just don't overdo it!

    --Betty :)

  • Your cheese sauce really makes this some good macaroni, Ive also used it to make cheddar potato & broccoli soup. Its is so good and always impresses my guests. Thanks Betty :0)

  • @TheScarlettMakeup You're very welcome! Thanks for the great feedback! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • can u use cornmeal for flour

  • Hey Betty! I made this for dinner tonight. It was really good!! I added some paprika and panka bread crumbs on top for a little extra spice and crunch and it really went over well! I just have one concern: when I made the cheese sauce, it turned out really fluffy and thick. It wasn't "oozing" like yours. What did I do wrong? I know I had all the correct measurements of butter (melted on the stove), flour (mixed off heat) and then the milk and cheese...

  • @Lilyflower207 Thanks for the great feedback! I like your changes. Actually, the cheese mixture is pretty thick. You can make it thinner by adding milk to it, but I think it's about right for the amount of macaroni.

    --Betty :)

  • What other cheese can we use?

  • @stardogged You can use mozzarella, Parmesan, Romano, Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, Swiss cheese, or a combination of cheeses.

    --Betty :)

  • Comment removed

  • @stardogged Thank you!

  • @bettyskitchen heh you're right i just added the flour and milk at the same time... will try it again! THANKS SO MUCH (:

  • @bettyskitchen I made this but it had a floury taste I hate that how can I get rid of it? Thanks (:

  • @pinkeyshort The only reason it could have a floury taste is if you don't cook together the butter and flour at the beginning before adding the milk. Just make sure you cook until the flour is "done" and you will not have a floury taste.

    --Betty :)

  • Betty Im going to make this for Christmas. I made your chili last night

  • @blakkandi I hope you enjoyed the chili, and I think you will really like this version of macaroni and cheese. Merry Christmas!

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks so much Betty, I am actually making this tonight for Thanksgiving! =)

  • hey im making this for thanksgiving im excited first time ima make and i would just like to let u know im using ur recipe thank you :)

  • definitely gonna try when i have a family occasion!! :D

  • Is it possible to add sour cream to this type of Mac'n'cheese? I saw your video for the deluxe version but I don't really like cottage cheese. I made this method before and it was good but wanted to try a sour cream version so just was wondering if I could follow this version but add sour cream, or is making it this way and adding sour cream not a good idea?

  • holy hell that looks amazing

  • @ShawnCorson This is actually my favorite of all the macaroni and cheese recipes.

    --Betty :)

  • hahahaha spray?????? whaaat? i couldn't believe my eyes... that stuff doesn't exist in italy!

  • @Kdeejay1987 Sorry...use olive oil or butter.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen ahahahaha cheers, it was more just a shock to see someone using a spray can to cook with. i associate it with insecticides and spray paint! :D i made this last night and it worked well... my friends loved it. Thnx for the help and keep up the good work :D

  • @Kdeejay1987 We americans are lazy, leave us alone :)

  • Why can't I find a woman like Betty? Oh yeah....cause I'd probably eat myself to death. :P

  • Betty, I just love your receipes. You are a good southern cook.

  • hai betty i'm ratih from bali,do you have recipe for my 2 years kid

  • @RATIHjegeg Kids love ritz cracker chicken nuggets and also deep fried macaroni and cheese. Alos, no-bake oatmeal, peanut butter, and chocolate cookies are great for kids. All of these are in bettyskitchen.

    --Betty :)

  • @RATIHjegeg

    thankyou for your reply

  • i have literally just taken this out of the oven. I made it with Irish ingredients, as thats where I live. I have to say it tastes....amazing! I adore mac and cheese and always bought it pre made. Thank you sooo much for sharing your knowledge with us. This will be a family favourite in my household! x

  • @kelzie80 Thanks so much for your lovely feedback! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • i am going to make this tonight and see how it comes out! it looks good and i do love to eat bake mac&cheese

  • Love this recipe!

  • @chelts87 Velveeta cheese is much more creamy than cheddar cheese, so it is more appropriate for stove top mac 'n cheese. I would stick to cheddar for oven baked macaroni and cheese. Thanks for commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • Delicious...just a tip if you add just a small drop of prepared mustard it really makes this dish great and it tastes better than what you find in restaurants.

  • slice cheese??

  • @filzah102 For this recipe, I use shredded cheddar. You could used sliced cheese, if you crumble it up.

    --Betty :)

  • How many does this serves?

  • @Emux33 Assuming you use it as a side dish, it will serve 8 to 10. If it's your main course, it will serve about 6.

    --Betty :)

  • Tried this recipe. I used about four cups of finely shredded sharp chedder. At first the cheese sauce tasted like it had no flavor, but when I added it with the noodle, it was great. I topped it off with panko to give it a nice crust.

  • hello betty:)

If I use Barilla Elbow macaroni in the blue box, how much do I pour from the box? It says it has 16 ounces but its also not filled up all the way to the top. Do you think I should pour in half the box?? please reply thank you!

  • @ilovedogs1085 I use 8 ounces, so, notice where the macaroni comes to in the box, and pour half of that into your boiling water.

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty! About the pasta you are cooking with- is it the same macaroni pasta as the Kraft Cheesy Macaroni (the macaroni in the blue box)?

  • @ilovedogs1085 The macaroni would be equivalent, but there is no sauce mix. Other than the weight, it's pretty much the same.

    --Betty :)

  • you look like glenn close great recipe

  • omg omg omg talk about irresistable..now u make me wanna run to the kitchen and make this .thank u better..can u be my cooking friend on facebook..im christina marie..

  • How do you stay so skinny baking and eating all these foods, lol

  • @MissToxicLove i know rite! i'm on a diet so if i eat macaroni i choose grain macaroni taste the same but has less fat low fat flour or organic brown rice flour low fat butter low fat cheese and 1% milk

  • I definitely gotta try this! It looks so simple and oh so good! I bet it tastes even better!! =)

  • Where would modern civilization be without cooking spray? Ever since I came across this recipe I've made it at least a few dozen times. I did some minor adjustments the past dozen or so times. I add either crumbled bacon or shredded smoked ham, then sprinkled the top with "Jay's Kettle Cooked Potato Chips". A quick spritz of cooking spray on the chip topping and into the oven. I let it reach the dark golden brown point. OK, it may sound weird, but the taste of it is over the top outstanding.

  • thanks for sharing betty =)

  • @MryanGXreturns You're welcome!

    --Betty :)

  • my mom was supposed to make baked mac and cheese but has been lazy so i youtube searched for recipes and yours is the best! im making it tomorrow :)

    --Betty :)

  • cant you just put whipping cream and cheese for the sauce??

  • cant you just put whipping cream and cheese for the sauce??

  • cant you just put whipping cream and cheese for the sauce??

  • cant you just put whipping cream and cheese for the sauce??

  • @SuperHacker00 Whipping cream would work in place of the milk, but it would make the dish much fattier.

    --Betty :)

  • cant you just put whipping cream and cheese for the sauce??

  • @SuperHacker00 Yes.

    --Betty :)

  • I wonder what this would taste like with crumbled bacon on top? Betty, this recipe looks delish and I might make it this weekend or next!

  • @stellaluna4u2 This would be great with crumbled bacon on top; the combination of flavors is perfect! Thanks for a wonderful tip!

    --Betty :)

  • Hello Betty _ Question, just one confusen _ you mention to add 2 cups or shredded sharp cheddar cheese using the package _ n then mention you can use a a 8 oz block _ isnt 2 cups 16 ounces ? So should it be 1 cup or 2 cups ? TY I know it just a honest msitake

  • 2 cups is 16 oz. in liquid measure. When you measure cheese, you will need 2 cups shredded cheese. Thanks for asking!

    --Betty :)

  • My Mom made this for my birthday, WONDERFUL. Thanks for sharing, Betty (:

  • Talk about a southern bell!

This is so going to have everyone at my thanksgiving go wild! I do have a strick eating regimen, BUT WHO CARES this looks amazing! I just have to find some good garnish to go with this now.

keep it up betty, oh and happy holidays!

  • This is one of my *all-time best* recipes! You made a good choice. I agree, Thanksgiving is not the time to stick to a strict diet. It's not what you eat in one day--it's what you eat on the other 364 days of the year! Happy holidays!

    --Betty :)

  • My mother always made her baked macaroni and cheese with flour. When I make it, I substitute the flour with corn starch (to save on fat and calories). I also add dry mustard to the sauce and sprinkle paprika over the top of the dish before placing it in the oven. Your mac-n-cheese looks DELICIOUS!

  • I like the changes you suggested! I will try them next time! Thanks for your lovely comment!

    --Betty :)

  • My favorite activity is eating, so I am always looking for ways to enhance my eating pleasures. This recipe looks easy. I'm gonna try it. I love baked pasta. You're a hottie, Betty.

  • This is one of my *favorite* recipes (including all categories!). I hope you enjoy the recipe!

    --Betty :)

  • its totally different with the baked mac i made.. not only the ingredients but also the final product.. see, i added many eggs, veggies and pre-cooked meat to it.. so the final product is more "solidified" .. i mean, i served it in chunks, like cakes!! XD

but, i'll try this method of cooking coz it looks very delicious.. thanks..

  • You method sounds great--I like the idea of having a lot of veggies and meat, as well! Thanks for your nice comment!

    --Betty :)

  • You can just eat it on its own--it is a very hearty dish! Or, if you want to serve it as a side dish, it will go with just about anything. In my area, we would choose fried chicken, meatloaf, hamburgers, things like that...

    Thanks for asking!

    --Betty :)

  • this dish is awesome I wanna be like you all how do you get started videotaping? I am a cook self taught mom, family, friend inspired. You inspire me Keep up the good cooking... you are one of many site i found tonight.

  • All you need to get started is a digital camera that has a video setting. Then, just click UPLOAD on YouTube. I think you will enjoy uploading your recipes!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty what would you normally serve with this Macaroni cheese? or do you just eat it on its own? :0)

  • I just now saw this comment! I lost many comments in the last month! You can serve this dish alone, or use it in place of potatoes or rice in a large meal. Thanks for the question!

    --Betty :)

  • i didnt have any chedder but i had colby jack so i had to use that

  • That's fine! It did come out very well, I assume! Thanks for commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • You're welcome! This is my *best* version of baked mac 'n cheese! If you get tired of it, I have a creamy stovetop version and a tomato-cheese baked version posted! Enjoy!!!

    --Betty :)

  • Hey Betty! Thanks so much for this recipe! Mine is in the oven now! So easy and great! Thanks!

  • I am delighted that you like it! Thanks for the wonderful feedback!

    --Betty :)

  • This is almost the same recipe I use for mac and cheese. I do a little something different in that I add some grated nutmeg to the cheese sauce and before baking sprinkle paprika on top. We love it. My kids would sometimes microwave it before I got to bake it if they had to go somewhere before supper time. Not crispy around the edges, which I love, but they didn't care. ;-)

  • The nutmeg sounds interesting! I've never run across that in macaroni and cheese, but I'm going to try it next time! It sounds wonderful! Thanks for all of your sweet comments!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty, this looks so darn good! I have a question for you. First off, being a semi health nut myself, I really like how you use skim milk and can still produce a nice, cheesy sauce. I was wondering if I could go a bit further and use reduced fat cheddar cheese? If so, could I even use a reduced fat blend of cheeses? Sargento makes a reduced fat 4-cheese mexican cheese blend that I usually keep on hand. Thank you for the help!

  • Yes, you may use reduced fat cheddar cheese or a reduced fat blend of cheeses. You are familiar with the comparison of the taste of skim milk as compared to whole or 2 %--After a while, skim milk tastes better and seems lighter and more pleasant. It's the same with the cheese in this recipe. I used regular, because I felt like doing too much reduced fat in any given recipe might turn some people off, and that they wouldn't try the recipe. Make the substitutions, and your recipe will be fine!

  • i might tell my mom to try this

and i cant believe michael jackson died :(

  • The mac 'n cheese is really worth a try. MJ--me, also :(

    --Betty

  • Thanks so much for this. I added bacon to mine :)

  • The bacon sounds like a delicious additino! Thanks for viewing and for your comment!

    --Betty :)

  • im gonna try it out for lunch does the measure ments have to be precice

  • No, just in the ballpark--It's one of those "never-fail" type of dishes! Thanks for your question!

    --Betty :)

  • I've never tried that, but the first thing that comes to mind is making it like scalloped potatoes. Put a layer of cooked macaroni on the bottom of a large greased casserole dish, then sprinkle with shredded sharp cheese, dot with butter, give it a dash of salt, and sprinkle evenly and lightly with flour. Keep repeating the layers, eventually topping with shredded cheese. Pour milk over the top, giving it room to bubble as it cooks. Bake at 350 for 25-35 minutes or until browned.

    --Betty :)

  • oh also.... how could I make this same amazing recipe, but in a layered manner?

  • If I use Vitamin D Milk will it mess it up? and THANK YOU for not using onions! lol. Personally I love onions but my husband is soooo not for them!

  • Vitamin D milk will be fine. I've made it scores of times with all types of milk. it is a "never fail" type of recipe, even when things don't go quite as intended!

    Thanks for watching!

    --Betty :)

  • Thank You So Much Betty.. Ive Always Loved Baked Mac N Cheese, But My Mother Never New How To Make It.. But Now I Do! ..
