As long as CMS continues to tout itself as an urban school district and treats the suburban schools, parents, and taxpayers as stepchildren, there will be friction in this community.
this video is very true but the people who keep the schools together maintance wise are not mentioned, i do not belive this was done on purpose, but you cant forget about building services (The grounds workers, carpentry, hvac, plumbing, roofing, welders, electronics, electricions, pest contol, painters, sign shop.) some of the guys that work in these departments havent seen raises is just as long as teachers or longer and these are the men and women who keep the schools safe to go into everyday
Intresting how you only hear about the "good" side of CMS but what you don't hear is that the teachers get pushed and mistreated by the students and the local administration at the schools don't do a thing. Accountability is non-existant at CMS schools and the students are running the show. Give the teachers a raise and and the ability to kick misbehaving students out of the classrooms.
I would definitely support any tax increased that would be used to increase teacher salaries. I respect and have a great deal of appreciation for my child's teachers and even the teachers I had when I was in school. They have a hard job and should not have to leave school and go to a 2nd job just to afford the roof over their heads. As tep1263 has expressed, teachers are responsible for educating the millionaires and billionaires of our society. It is unfair that they are not paid more!
A 3% pay increase after 4-5 years of holding steady is the LEAST we should do for our teachers. Classroom size has grown, the school have had to cut staff, and they've lengthened the school day. These all add up to more work for the teachers and all support staff when are unpaid to begin in. Without outstanding teacher where will the overpaid corporate executives, athletes and politicians get a decent education? Thank you to those who teach and support our kids.
oops. The State replaced all of the chalk boards with white boards, but the students have to supply the markers for teachers to use, in addition to copy paper. Technology is great, but I've heard that a light bulb for some of the projectors cost $300! Really? Someone is ripping off our school system.
I think the salaries for other CMS positions needs to be revealed. Many positions in the Central office, or even the transportation department pay 3,4, or 5 times more than teachers. I think there are also more office staff in schools than what is necessary. The State re
I would not mind at all if my taxes went to paying the teachers! our children attend school they need to see positive, happy ,energized teachers who enjoy their job and love our children. But how can a tired, stressed teacher show love and patience to OUR CHILDREN when they are not being payed what they deserve????? my children are my number ! priority and if it means having a trustworthy, happy kind teacher than hey! i dont mind them receiving raises =) tax money should go to SCHOOLS!!
Insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results: Aka department of Education. Perhaps school vouchers, perhaps privatize public schools and kicking government out, untying the hands of communities to support their LOCAL school, holding parents accountable, end bussing....it's unacceptable for what a teacher is paid! Schools pay more money on one student with no results year after year and yet don't give outstanding teachers a raise? INSANITY!
This was an eye opener for me. I would accept a tax increase if I knew the increase was earmarked for employee salaries esp teachers. The fact they have second jobs is unacceptable.
Pay teachers and staff well. If you cut out recess and lunch all the elementary children can be home by 12:00. They could have the afternoons to be nurtured by their mothers and they could play outside longer which is great for them.
@mkssatterfield why would you cut out recess and lunch? There are some kids where school is their only meal and recess is the happiest time of their day. They don't go home to nurture, food, and love, although bitterness, hunger and pain. School is the only little hope they have and shortening those two activities can take that hope away.
I'm all about a pay increase for them, I'm also all about the school day being shortened by that 45 minutes that was added this past year. That was a pay cut to our teachers on top of no pay raise. I agree with people below though. There doesn't appear to be a clear path to helping or changing anything.
I hope this video opens the eyes of some of our community members. I have been working at least two jobs since I started. At one point I was working 4 jobs and I am still barely survivng. How can I move forward in life if my income stands still. I recently had a child and I can not even afford health care or day care off of what I make. We need a change!
I am very willing to support the school system and those who work for it in any way possible. I think teachers and school staff including custodians, lunch staff and office staff are very important to our community and children. I am and have been for teacher/staff raises. Anyone at all associated with making my child (and others) have a good school/educational experience deserves to be rewarded monetarily and not have to work two jobs.
Sad statement in this country that one of the most important functions in our society (education) has been reduced in pay, respect, and appreciation on all levels. I LOVE you all and what you do for our kids so I'm willing to support you in any way. Take a look at Census.Gov & see the priority of our citizens and education takes the back seat to delivering the message of superiority around the world. Cut the trillions sent abroad and take care of home. Contact local & US politicians. I will!!
I think it's a great video. But it's way too long. Even as a CMS employee it was hard to watch a full 8 minutes. I think some of the best parts are towards the end when teachers talk about the financial burden. It would be great to have a shorter version.
This video is very true and its sad that they expect you to do all these different things and still come in with a smile. Its not that you come in only for the money but for the love of what you do. And being compensated for it is a plus. Bus drivers are being effected also. it is hard. I love my job, but now I will have to get another job to make ends meet.
It's shameful that our teachers have to work extra jobs in order to teach. If it's not in the budget, raise our property taxes a few dollars and make sure it's directed to salaries for the teachers and school staff. We have a museum we didn't need and it seems like this should have been the priority.
there are more than two kind of people, every body alway forget the custodian, that clean the school. alway over looked. so stop over looking the custodian that keep the schools clean, without a clean school teaches can,t work in dirty school. custodian hasn,t had a raise in four year also, custodian is working from paycheck to paycheck.

At 00:17, this video has already turned me off. CMS has had an increase in their total budget every year.
