I AM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY 100% I HAVE DONE IT ALL MY LIFE. I FIRED MY GARDENER AND TURNED MY GRASS LAWN INTO MY HOME GROWN ORGANIC VEGETABLE AND SUNFLOWER FOR BIRDIES, YET I $AVE MONEY THAT I HAD PAID MY GARDENER WHY? NOW I SAVE MONEY ALL AROUND AND YET HEALTHY TOO.
@aspire1more Found it myself........ The Litchi tomato is a unique heirloom plant in both appearance and taste, with its abundance of thorns and a sour cherry-like flavor.
Hi John, my name is Shie Boon and i'm in Singapore. I feel like migrating because i love being a part of nature. May i ask you, where can i actually migrate to, and just grow my own food and live from there on? Thanks!
@MrShieBoon Hi Shie Boon, i know how u felt coz im from Singapore too haha....I too feel like moving somewhere :P. I thought of Thailand coz they are active and supportive towards agriculture and they have abundant fresh produce. I also thought of Hawaii coz of its subtropical climate. Or perhaps Austrailia coz they are supportive towards heirlooms and farmer market. But whatever it is, it's important to grow whatever u can, at where ever u are currently. Happy growing :P
@pestanah Heyyy. Sigh. I'm so frustrated over, pardon me, fucked-up life. Money's flowing everywhere and you should know better, money is 'very, very important' in Singapore. I hate this life. If you don't study hard, you won't get a good job and you won't live well. I hate it. I want to travel somewhere else where there is no restrictions and i can live by my own farming.
John how about exploring a more compact edible garden? I don't have much space but i use half wine barrels to grow food in. Lebanese cress has been good grower and is easy. Ceylon spinach and kang kong i am growing on a latice from barrels and they have great nutritional value. i also have citrus fruit trees in four barrels. Iam also growing sweet leaf bush and brahmi. Thanks for the videos:)
@MrJHEagle hi there. Is your climate hot or tropical? Is Lebanese cress suitable for tropical climate? Does it reseed itself? Im looking for plants that can perpetuate itself and grow yearly without much intervention from myself. May i know where did you get your Lebanese cress and brahmi seeds from? Many thanks in advance. :P
Awesome video! I just recently recovered from hypokalemia (low potassium) which really bogged me down and was giving me a long list of side effects health-wise. Which I in a roundabout way am thankful for, for it reinstated my love for fruits & vegetables and their irreplaceable abilities! your videos keep me motivated also in eating right. thank you!
Your nutty man. Love your videos. My wife and I watch your videos a lot. "This is John Kohler with growing your greens.com, ...discount juicers.com!!" We love your enthusiasm and sense of humor. Keep on growing.
I just gave my neighbor some tomato plants to start her own vegetable garden, she currently only has vegetables. I also left letters in most of my neighbors mailboxes, telling them why they should grow their own food.
I think the first video of yours I watched was the one where you gave a big tour of your front yard veggie garden. I just LOVED the raised beds! Really an inspiration!
As for persuading people...well..my immediate family thinks I'm crazy for growing all this food when "You can just buy it at the store!" to which I respond "Why by it at the store when you can grow it in your YARD!?" The benefits are so huge...I mean, I can walk a couple steps and pick fresh food- for free! Growing food is vital.
Thank you so much for making these videos! I live in an apartment and my apartment manager allowed my husband and I to use a bit of the yard to grow a GREAT garden last year and I have over 200 sprounts inside now that I know I will be giving away b/c we just dont have the space outdoors but I love that I can give organic transplant for my friends and family to grow. I love you videos so much. They keep me so inspired and ready to get in the dirt!
Just want to say thank you for taking time to answer my question, for me and for everyone else. I'll definitely be able to use a lot of this for my persuasive speech. Thank you very much! :D
John, you the man.....Already got my compost piles transported into my raised beds and started some green beans, tomatoes, sunflowers, strawberries and peppers...This is my first year using rock dust, thanks to a generous buddy....Keep up the good work and thanks a lot for inspiring me on many different levels. And I am not even 25 years old yet! Cheers from New Orleans....
John, tour losing me -10 minutes my friend. Thats the way it works. Are you are rule breaker? Comon time is precious. You tube understands this and want vids under 10 minutes. This is for good reason. If you want a 25 minute vid post it in 3 parts. Thanks.
As impressive as you garden is, im equally or even more impressed at how much you have a desire to plant seeds of change in all of us, especially kids to help make us grow...
Hi John, I loved the video as usual, but could you spell that (correlian?) photography for me. I wanted to see some examples, i found it interesting. Thanx.
John I still have collards growing in my raised bed garden cause you suggested i grow them when i met you at expo west last year..Thanks for the inspiration!!
I'm moving to Prescott, AZ in a few months and will be getting some property with the sole purpose of growing my own food. Raw food has quickly become my passion and I need to connect to the Earth. This video couldn't have come at a better time. Thanks John! :D
in your opinion, would you concider planting plants deeper, to be benificial to plants growth? or would this just help stabalize the plant? and my second question is, when you are growing radishes and lettuce, what do you do to create a head of lettuce, or a bulb for a radish? it seams like whenever i try radishes i get beautiful tops, might get 1-2 radished out of 10! and with lettuce i get lots of leaves, but nothing as beautiful as they get in the store. could you please help me out? thanks!
Nice thesis. How would you or how do you protect your food supply as the economy continues to get worse and hungry people eyeball the fruit of your efforts?
@stevesmitty79 i live in an urban area & grow food in the front yard & plan to grow food all the way to the curb this year. people always stop & admire it. I have found that i have had to tell people that it is ok to pick & taste it. we had a neighbor who posted a sign on an apple tree saying it was fine to pick. food can & should be grown everywhere all the trees the city plants should be fruit bearing - why arent they - scarcity is created by industry.
Great Message, and great delivery. This really is what the world needs, maybe this won't cure everything, but it will help in many ways. Growing your own food = Freedom.
John is normaly inspirational, but the last several videos he has been super pumped. I have grown plants all my life, but being in Florida we have few options because of pest, NEMATODES, fungus, etc. Learning about plant options has allowed me to grow food in a difficult environment. I have purchased seeds for several of the plants john has mentioned over time and I managed to find tree kale from someone in California. I am excited. Thanks John.
John..you have truly inspired me to starting growing my own fresh veggies..I am going to start with container gardening..I was hipped to another gardener named "the urban organic gardener"..he has videos on 4 ways to make a self-watering container..both you guys are great! Thanks for making a difference and helping to raise the consciousness of others..
great vid thanks alot,i forgot i ate my broc fresh from the garden within 1 to 4 hours while i was doing dishes,i tell ya the next day i felt great,Talk about an energy boost,I felt great.

more reasons?
- it's really beautiful to look :)
- it's good for bees and beetles (they collect the pollen and nectar)
- you don't use gasoline for lawnmoving
- it saves time to go for a food - you just should walk some steps to your garden and not go to grocery store
