I believe that illegal immigration have gotten so bad not because illegal immigrants are evil, but because our broken immigration system encouraged them to come here, work here, and pay taxes. They have been positively contributing to our economy for decades. They have been exploited. They should be legalized it's the only fair, compassionate, and realistic thing to do.

Those fines would have to be unreasonable, and the lack of necessary manpower to run checks would ensure unbalance application that would have detrimental industry effects. I say increase the fines but also increase minimun wage which makes the jobs more attractive to Americans and the risk/cost of hiring illegal workers outweigh the savings.

Where's the contradiction? Rudy said we can end "illegal immigration" on the 14th, not that we can exercise complete control over all immigration. There's a way for both of these statements to be sincere: open up the borders, decriminalize worker migration, and you've ended illegal immigration without actually controlling immigration.
