The only real event that takes place is the MotoGP up at Laguna Seca near Monterey Bay which has also AMA Superbike and Superstock races like these before it. but sadly, all we have down here is the Indy Car race in Long Beach and a bunch of Nascar crap =(((((

Accelleration due to gravity is 9.82 metres per second per second so he would have hit the ground with the same force whether he was moving forward or not. its two separate accelerative forces the vertical and the horizontal (although wind resistance and him no longer being connected to the machine means horizontal is in fact decellerative) the vertical is not lessened by the horizontal.

@Dravensdmf damn, forgot that 9.82 meters per second thing, thanks for the reminder (i know, a feather and a nail in a vacuum will fall at the same speed, and early experiments at the tower of PISA and earlier...), yet i would still maintain there is a more gradual deceleration as you slide (hopefully on your back the most and not tumble), so that by the forward motion (horizontal) your contact to the ground is "spread out" and more gradually distributed... does that make sense?

or look at it in terms of a line from your center of gravity, you can have a perpendicular straight line forming a 90 degree angle or have a very acute angle relative to the straight line perp sitting position... with forward motion at high enough speed your drop to the ground is not nearly as bad, but hope you can slide on your back!, and with armor! i always ride completely covered, even if only in air vent armor jackets and gloves and pants, with pads... and helmet of course
