RIP Col Howard...I had the honor to work for him @VII Corps in Germany back in 1985-86. He was the Headquarters Detachment Cdr under LTG Chambers. His signature was one I have never seen repeated- he used a straight edge ruler so that the bottom of his signature would be straight lines. I met him again when he was on one of his many MOH tours through Kuwait in 2008.
@rporter9501 When I was in korea I was assigned for 3 months as his administrative assistant. You are right if I'm rememering right he used a red pen and I noticed all the letters were flat on the bottom. Then one day I saw him using a ruler to guide his hand. The thing I remember the most is he called me sir and I was just an E4. And I remember he had a lot more medals then the comanding general. He was the most decorated servive man in US history I'm pretty sure.
@DKWegley this comment has no place here, and if you knew Col Howard at all you would have the respect and common decency to remove it. Col Howard did not mix duty with politics, any GOOD soldier would fallow his example and do the same. Here we are, doing our best to honor Americas most decorated soldier, and show thanks to he and his family, and the sacrifices they made, and you want to talk of hedonism and sexual confusion. For shame!!!!
I had the honor of escorting Col. Howard to a TACP event in Korea. It was two days I will never forget. You are a true American hero. Thank you sir for the stories and the inspiration. Rest in Peace....
I met Col Howard in 1986 when I was stationed stationed in Germany and even though we only spoke for about 2 minutes I really enjoyed speaking with him. I could tell that he was a soldier's soldier. May he rest in peace - Hooah!
RIP Col Howard, you deserve it . I can only wonder what rock the turds of your generation who spit on and dispised the heroic efforts of the Vietnam soldier are under nowadays.
He gave an entire lifetime to us. Thank you so much for being the most dedicated, toughest and giving bastard to live. A great man and next time I'm in DC I am placing a flower on his grave.
I had the honor and privilege of meeting Col. Howard at the 2009 Medal of Honor Convention here in Chicago. Hands down one of the greatest experiences in my life. He is a true hero, and a model American. I feel truly privileged to of met this great man.
It was my honor to here Col Howard speak with Capt McGinty in Camp Fallujah in 2006 and to be able to spend a few moments with those wonderful men. They just don't make em like that anymore. RIP Col Howard.
