I agree with you. I was living in New York at the time and the people there were Georgetown fans including me. Everybody had Hoya jackets and hats. Everybody liked the Hoyas because they were the bad boys and fit the image of new york. I was a huge Patrick Ewing fan
Wished someone would post some games featuring this team with Walter Berry, Mullin, Glass, dude form Canada that went on to win with Bulls? Forgot his name already. Those were the days. But, yeah, poster from below regarding GH - they had great players.
These two squared off four times that year(I was in the seventh grade)and the one time St Johns won was the first meeting in January a month before this, at Landover, MD
This gtown was the greatest team NOT to win the title. You had a future all-star in reggie williams, future journey man wingate.martin, jackson,ALL could shoot, and were backed up by one of the 5 greatest centers ever!IT TOOK A MIRACLE TO STOP THEM
And, don't forget that that tournament appearance, and the NIT Title the following season, were vacated because of using an ineligible player! So, St. John's definitely needs Pitino!
Guess what? I heard a rumour! St. John's Basketball is down right now, but supposedly, they are ready to put forth a handsome offer to a coach who is a New Yorker and who resurrected programs at Providence, Kentucky, and Louisville. That would be, none other than Rick Pitino! Since Pitino is getting older, how sweet would it be for him to finish his coaching career bringing back a team with a storied past in the town he grew up in? Who agrees?
louis carnesecca and the redmen were so cool in the early days of the big east in early 80's, BC, 'Cuse, Hoyas, Nova, they were so fun to watch back then - GU was my favorite by far tho w/ ewing - i remember gu vs virginia in dec '82 against ralph sampson and the cover of Sports Ill. w/ ewing and sampson on it.
I was 12 and still remember watching this game. Wow. What great teams. I wish my Johnies could get back from the abyss they are in now. I miss these years. Thanks for posting and making me cry.
yeah the terminator shoes were the jamm, and yes georgetown would have won two in a row wit Michael Graham , he would cold cocked a villanova shooter and they would have lost their concentration in the zone.
The Hoya's owned college basketball during this erea. This is great footage. You please show the entire game please! If we would have never lost the bald head assisn Michael Graham to foolish school work we would have dominated for three more years!
The Georgetown Hoyas 1983-85 were selected as one of the 25 Most Influential of The "Dunkadelic-Era" In America, 1984-Present the basketball and hip-hop culture fusion time-period of the past 23+ year's. The Hoyas were the 1st college basketball team to have their own signature shoe (Nike Terminator) in 1985.

Georgetown-St. John's was a real rivalry in the 80's sorta like what you see in the NFC East

the nostalgia is almost too much to withstand....the Big East in the 80's was euphoric

That 1985 St. John's team was badass. Both of these teams had a lot of pro players.
