I've been riding for about 3 months now and still don't understand how to keep my pedal in the 7/8 o'clock position while I jump up without it going down to the 6 o'clock.
I can ride just fine, but my mounts are always sloppy and I feel like I don't have full control until after 1 or 2 full revolutions.
been triing to free mount from 3:30 to 6:45 before i saw this video haha going to try this tomorrow. i was keeping the pedal i step on at 6 o clock....guess thats where i went wrong :)
I can now do this mount without thinking about it. Now it's rolling mounts, jump mounts and I finaly nailed suicide mounts yesterday. Thanks again for your help.
hmmm...just out of curiosity, do you live in CT? And if you do....do you want to unicycle in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New Haven, CT on March 14th?
lol, not trying to sound creepy or anything =D, just trying to get more unicyclists.
This is a great video. Breaking the basic mount into its component steps makes the physics of freemounting easy to understand. Note how he "hovers" over the frame with control before stepping over the other pedal. This is the feel you need to achieve to do a basic freemount with control. Again, very nice video post.

Unlike many videos here this was really _very_ helpful. A bigger forward momentum while _not_ holding the seat were crucial moments. Thanks a lot.

this video looks great but whenever i put my first foot down the wheel spins, aka horribly bruised shins. i can't get on at all. any suggestions?

hi.
Try leaning forward as you put your first foot down. The goal is to get the seat post vertical above the wheel.
Also, what you could try is sort of "jumping" up so that the wheel doesn't roll backwards as you put pressure on it.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted on your progress! :)

Try a small rock or 2x4 behind the tire.

@smomitsuye sit on the seat while you jump on it, then lean forward

This is a great vid. Been doing it for 30 mins. Already mounted and rode away 10 times. Love it.
