Mayfly larva, may live in this stage for a couple years. Bad news if you're an ant and you step in it's pit trap where he hides. I have lots of these in my yard in Los Angeles County. Very educational for the kids to watch them in action. Tiny, ferocious predator.

i always remember catching this things on my farm in texas, they'd make there little spiral circles in the sand and you find them at the bottom, coolest bug ever.

@FlipperBoidSkua yeah agrreing with thats guy antlions are awesome as pets but you do not want a small jar i suggets finding a shed or an enclosed area with dirt and find little funnels do not make any sand fall into the middle or ull scare it away so i suggest getting a thin weed and barely touching the sides heading towards the middle of the funnel and when you see it ravaging get youre spoon and scoop him up i mean antlions have a good bite but dont hurt super bad
