In my impartial American opinion, this is a very strong entry. It is an incredibly well thought out performance, yes 1 of the ladies is singing too loudly for the harmony to work perfectly, but that will happen if you are not just standing still holding a microphone. The skirt pull is a great touch, but the song is great on its own. This is definitely one of the UK's strongest entries, right up with "Save Your Kisses For Me" and "Puppet On a String."
thumbs up for: i only saw this on the music channel on TV about 3hours ago and it has been in my head since and now am gunna apload it onto my phone :) LOl x
Congratulations to each member of Buck Fizz for their winning performance with this catchy song at the Euorovision Song Contest 30 years ago today.. April 4th..!
Thanks for the memories, the melodious music and the ongoing magical moments !
This song sucks with it's Huckle-Buck rhythm! Were they mean't to be the son's and daughters of ABBA! Velour sweaters and blonde hair, how Aryan! I've made my mind up, it's a terrible, terrible, terrible song! I was 12 when this came out and it still haunts me today!! :(
@1969atam 1981 WAS THE LAST TIME A BRITISH GROUP WON FOR US YES I KNOW KATRINA AND THE WAVES DID BUT SHE WAS CANADIAN B4 YOU START. THIS IS A STUPID COMMENT, HOW CAN YOU SAY THIS CLASSIC SONG SUCKS WITH THE RUBBISH OUT TODAY AT LEAST THESE ARE GOOD OLD FASHIONED CLEAN AND NOT RUDE LYRICS UNLIKE TODAYS ARTISTS. WE STILL HAD FREEDOM BACK THEN B4 THE PC BRIGRADE AND HUMAN RIGHTS FOR CRIMINALS AND KIDS ALLOWED TO RUN RIOT WERE A DISTANT MEMORY SIMPLER TIMES.
My votes for 1981 are:- Norway 1, Denmark 2, Israel 3, Belgium 4, Ireland 5, Spain 6, Cyprus 7, Germany 8, France 10, Switzerland 12. (of courese the UK entry was best)
This is the best entry the UK ever had in the eurovision song contest and we have had nothing like it since - ok Katrina and the waves won in1997 but Bucks Fizz performance is the best I`ve ever seen from a UK entry - both Chreyl Baker and Jay Aston were sexy and the skirt ripping won it for Bucks Fizz - since 1997 the UK has slowly become crap in the contestt
Bucks Fizz`s performance had much more of and impact than Brotherhood of man and this is why Bucks Fizz won in 1981 - in 1976 Brotherhood of man won because the song was about a father going out to work and leaving his three year old daughter behind which we didn`t realise until the last 5 words of the song - I still think Bucks Fizz are the best the UK ever had because of the visual impact - it`s an unforgettable performance.
Gawd did I love this song as a teenager! I even learned to do that silly hand-jive! Looking at this vid now, I'm sure they got a few votes just for those tight trousers and short skirts ;P
Would it have killed Pat Kenny to have referred to the country as the United Kingdom, instead of Great Britain, thus by intention failing to recognise Northern Ireland?! LOL
Every time they shake their heads I'm afraid their hair will fall right off.

@mrblueheadful What about the 1976 "Save your kisses". I think its the best UK entry; with "Making your mind" as the second place.

I agree, I don't think Cheryl can sing too well but the song is still catchy.
