FREE??? every wind turbine needs batteries-lots of them. Just like a car battery they die and need to be thrown away--where do we bury all of them? Is this the answer we really need to be looking at? Wind turbines have been around for allot of years-called windmills out here in the ranching community. 30 turbines will only power 15,000 homes. Is that enough efficiency? I don't think so!
Especially when you are upset with posts such as mine, please try not to assume. I would also appreciate your being civil. Living in NYC allows me to be quite green. I don't own a car, I take public transp., etc. And I practice other green habits such as consuming comparatively little in the way of products, switching off lights in rooms I'm not using, avoiding excess packaging, reusing stuff and so on. I do rent a car to travel on vacation. I don't have kids, which has saved lots of fuel, too.
Boy do I loathe the look of wind turbine farms in beautiful open areas. Formerly beautiful. Formerly open. I wish these monsters would be permitted only in highly populated areas, like NYC where I live. But no. Yuck and double yuck. Who's making the money and who's paying?
Take a guess how much oil that turbine is burning? NONE-ZERO-ZIP! How many homes can it power with NO carbon output? Around 200! You must own an Oil Company or you need to wake up and get your head out of your Butt! Wind and Solar = NO OIL! Its Free...
Did I say get rid of wind turbines? No, I said: Get them out of the countryside and move them to the city. Move them to the city, WHERE I LIVE. You can't get less NIMBY than that. This is a complex issue. Keep your mind open. Keep breathing. Wage understanding, not war. And please read the whole post and try not to assume. p.s. I'm no oil company. I work at an arts and ed nonprofit, for crying out loud. Now, then. Any ideas for deploying turbines in the city _instead_ of the countryside?
It's no good putting a turbine within a city limits. The wind propagation path lessens as buildings disrupt it. So by the time the wind reaches a turbine, the actual power output is not worth the cost of maintaining a turbine. And since the nature of wind is to change direction, it really doesn't matter where one puts a turbine. Also turbines are designed to be placed on a hill, due to the fact as the wind goes up a hill, the velocity of that wind increases, and increases power.
their positioned in the countryside in wyoming because thats the major wind corridor of the united states you uneducated fuck. they don't pick and choice where they all go. out west is the best place to put them so they can produce the greatest amount of electricity. think. do you really want to know what will happen in the future when we don't have any oil left. I don't !!
i know for a fact tht windmills DONT make noise because i own 30 of them. i think they are beautiful and peaceful, not noisy. they are only noisy when a blade is damaged, and even tht isnt very noisy.
I hope people who bitch about noise levels get hit with flying pieces of exploding windmill blades...
Your running car produces more than 106dB but not running your car would inconvenience you so you do it anyway. Not having wind farms inconveniences many more people. relax
This is a perfect example of how NOT noisy the wind turbines are! Thanks for the video I tried for this and even down wind from the turbine it still wasn't loud enough for my camcorder to pick up the Whooshing of the blades over the rustling of the leaves of the corn in the fields. Sad thing is it's am 1800 dollar camcorder so with my experience and your video here just PROVES that these produce VERY little noise.
I doubt if anyone cares about noise levels out there. There are no homes anywhere I could see.The wind industry would have a better reputation if they would keep their projects away from peoples homes and property.I dont understand why they are not located nearer to the cities and industrial areas which use the power and already have compatable backgroud noise levels.

- @ WYburros -
They don't "require" batteries to operate - but they do need to store their energy somewhere.
You can recycle the batteries and recover nearly all the material and build new batteries...it is not necessary - or recommended to bury them.

@WYburros Ever heard of recycling batteries?

not completely free. they're really expensive, but eventually, they pay for themselves. I think that the whole world needs to be powered by these.

Good point. No one would be able to hear them in a noisy city.
