Wonder where all those folks staying at walmart have gone? Thanks for sharing the experience of finding a job in North Dakota Oil Fields, it is not as easy as some think.
@mikeg420. Glad to see you leave. We don't need to get our shit together at all to accommodate vultures like you. Our town was just fine before you came along. Move along now...
This seems to be the general consensus of the area. I have only had a handful of people actually be polite to me and my wife since we have been in North Dakota. I have worked plenty of oil booms in many parts of the country and this by far seems to be the most mismanaged place politically and personally. I hope that you have a good day and as soon as the oilfield returns to Louisiana I'll be the first one to put my house in Dickinson up for sale and will be in the car heading out.
I just came back from 4 weeks of craziness in williston ND . the wall mart is full of campers and trucks . there is no where for them to go hope every one will be good to them and remember the people of ND and williston wanted this . there is no place to go eat. every one or place is full all the time and it is so hard to unwind after a18 hr day. WILLISTON please get ur shit together and accommodate all the people from out of town . THANK YOU NORTH DEKOTA for all the memories . PEACE OUT
@mikeg420ification Thanks for the post. I am sitting in the Williston Walmart parking as I type this to you. I have been here for 5 days and submitting applications since monday. Did you have any luck with a job here? Prospects are seeming a little bleaker than I had hoped? Thanks and good luck.
Hello from nebraska, I am a water tech level 2 been working a gov. job for the last two years are there jobs redally available for somone with my knowledge or exp. Let me know wingmaster1@live.com
@MrWingmaster1 Thanks for the comments. I do not have personal knowledge about this type of position, but with all the water treatment going on there I would have to think you would be able to find something. You might want to go the the JobsND site and get registered. Then you can look up the open positions available. It would give you somewhere to start asking the right people.
Do you folks know anything about M.B.I truking, they contacted me wanting to do a skype interview,i have haz.mat and tanker, clean record and have driven for 28 years, including offroad, maybe you know who is paying the most,i saw the tsa fingerprinting closed due to apointment issues.thx God bless.
@ctinton Hello there! Thanks for your comments. I have not personally heard of this company. I can say that Power Fuels is hiring, especially someone with your experience. As far as paying the most, I see that $30 an hour plus weekend, night, and holiday bonuses, on top of safety pay, is about the best. This is for an 80 hour week with five on and one off, plus a week off a month, if you want it. A big benefit is the housing, too. Not all companies provide that.
hi, my husband is interested in going to williston in feb. he doesn't have any expierence in the oilfield, are they hiring just for people with expierence or are they hiring any one
@simoleverbs Yes, I have been hearing that hiring has definitely slowed down. There are so many problems with housing and the oil storage seems to be at capacity so production is slowed to work out the bottlenecks, it would seem.
@mdhall80 The more specific the skills are, the more successful the job hunting. A huge problem is the housing and without a place to live, the job hunt can be very frustrating and that can certainly have an affect on landing a position. I have been hearing that right now there are jobs available, but maybe not the exact positions people want, so it might work out to take a job to get settled, then move up as word of mouth gets around.
Hi Jennifer, I'm Ed...I'll be heading up to ND and be there there on friday Feb 3 ...looking for a job with a good trucking company. If you could help ? I have a 10 year very clean D/L (nothing) Class A with a Dbb & Trip & tanker. and have exp. in Low-boy 35/50 ton / flat bed ....I have been out of work for 2 1/2 years. Thanks Ed can I send you my # ? and how do i do this in the net? thanks
@twojackrussels Hi there Ed, If you private message me your number, I will pass it on to Rob. They are hiring like crazy and with someone on the inside to get you in the door, you should have no problem at all. ~Jennifer
@peterbiltroy i remember starting wage at mcdonalds by the vegas motel there was 18 n hour in september/ocotober. I worked at american casing and my friend i was with was on at Nabors. i made an average og 32 an hour but i worked on average of 120-140 hours a week. That was starting running casing on rigs runnin v doors.
@Imjenninsd well i left for the winter and went to trinidad drilling in oklahoma. Ill be back with american casing come the end of feburary. I just like oklahoma better because its a steadier job. 12 hours a day a set 84 hours a week i liked casing tho. Ill be back :)
will the truck driving job you get in Williston paying $19 an hour and overtime over 50 hrs afford you what you will pay in rent and if not will Jody be taking care of the home front till you get back. If you dont appreciate my candid post Tuff its the real world
@mike184ever1 Rob was in Williston only a few days when he was hired on in Watford City at $30 per hr and 72 hrs per week. His RV is set up on their site with full hook ups and access to the dorm bathrooms, kitchen, TV room, and laundry. He is charged $300 per month for this and it begins after he started receiving paychecks. He made the move a permanent one so there is no home front to look after. He is very happy with his choice so far. Thx for the post!
@mykeljordan They really are that plentiful, actually. Since things there are perhaps not quite as organized as things might be in larger cities, the openings are usually given to people who are there and asking. It is tough to get a perspective from out of town what is going on directly in the towns. I can tell you from my first hand observations, though, that there are many more jobs available than people.
@Imjenninsd Thanks for your quick and first-hand, knowledgeable reply. Doing research to make my way up to Williston for 2 reasons. Good pay for hard work and support of my family. But thanks again for your help. Just need a foot in the door..
@mykeljordan If you are looking for a job with a good trucking company, I might be able to help you out. Whether you have a CDL or not there are jobs. Let me know and I might be able to put you in touch with someone that can help.
@Imjenninsd Thanks so much...that would be very, VERY helpful as the only thing and most important thing missing is my "foot in the door". My email is mykeljordan@gmail.com. Thanks again.
@olsickracing72 Kelly its hard to find a place out there and if you do the rent is 1000 to 2000 a month for a 10 by 20 trailer. if you drive a truck you could sleep in that but restrooms are hard to get to . a camper will set u back about 1200 a month pulse util. good luck .
@Imjenninsd come on Jen how many people have you seen hired out of 200 people a day coming and going a day...walmart and SOS and Baaken Temp source dont count. How many people in the last week got hired on at Savage or Baker Hughes.Friday a week ago Baker Hughes shut down 7 holes and their stock dropped $.53 a share....come on Jen tell the whole story
@mike184ever1 It sounds like you have had some experience with the area. I agree with you about the challenges and that is why it is so important to get contacts. Rob took a job from a company he was in contact with before he got to ND. I highly recommend this to anyone planning on going up there. As far as the whole story, I am telling what I have observed. Rob was there a few days and landed a job at the second place he interviewed. Rumor has it they are only just gearing up too.
@mike184ever1 According to Wall Street Journal, North Dakota is slated to out-perform Alaska in 2012. I am sure not all wells have strong output so it makes sense for companies to keep the costs down and profits high by focusing on the wells that are producing. As far as the stock price goes, how can we know if the drop was due to well production? If you know something about the oil boom, please share it with us as we are all looking for info that can lead to good jobs.
@Imjenninsd This sounds like great news. I am actually sitting in the Williston Walmart parking lot right now. If you can email me at mylvrental@gmail.com or message me I would love to get hired asap. Thanks for your help.
@mykeljordan I was there 2 weeks and made $50.00 the fields are full and the companies lack the personnel to hire...spend your money getting there then find out how many people have been waiting for their dream job...maybe 2 years ago yes but you will be working hit and miss out of the temp agencies and that is the truth. Oh rent yeah its going a grand a room. if you are lucky....lots of people show up and then leave in a week or 2 or 3...want to see for your self...ok I did and left

Been there done that, but definately NOT for $19 an hour! That is more like what the pay is for low budget roustabouts.
