  • your lights are too close and you need lights on the side as well as from the top

  • could someone tell me what those tracking markers are for?

  • @ALNUDN Markers are essential if you want to integrate a computer generated background. They become points for the camera to reference, so if the CG background will move relative to the subject. Otherwise, it just looks fake except in the most simple of circumstances.

  • how do you key out the track markers ?

  • @StrikersVideos You paint over them with a different part of the wall or rotoscope them away before keying. You could also do a separate key on the marker color, but there is usually some fringe left over.

  • @ModelManTom can you make tutorial about that? please? :s

  • @ModelManTom what do you use to paint over the marker with a different part of the wall?

  • @SuperParodieTV Yup.; The only purpose of this series is to show the cheap end and how to get around the problems. Enjoy.

  • You sound like Michael Biehn.

  • now you know about it ?

I've done motion tracking when i was 8Frame by Frame tracking in photo editor...

    believe it or not

  • Frame by frame tracking is a bitch. No matter how good the software, it still comes in handy.

I don't know what you refer to here:

"now you know about it ?"

  • I'm assuming you're using fluorescent green for your screens as well...

  • You'll find that using fluorescent black light tubes will work a lot better.

  • That's a very interesting note I will pursue as finances allow! Cheers!

  • I'm looking forward to when you put your lighted BoP in some deep space action with this! :)

  • That is one that would cause problems with this setup -as the forward engine lights are... green!. That is one reason why one goes with a blue screen in some cases. There are many other reasons I will get to as I go.

However as green is what I got, green is what I got. So I will show how to keep the green you want and kill the green you don't want w/ rotoscoping.

  • You worked for film industry?.

    That's interesting ^^

I'll have to check wikipedia to know what this tracking does. Or I'll wait until you get to the point.

    Thanks for showing.

  • Tracking markers allow a 3d or compositing program to replicate your real wold camera movement.

The simplest trick you can then do is remove any camera shake.

But you can also, depending on how you shoot your setup, create a virtual camera and render that camera instead of what you really shot.

I will get into more detail in future installments. It's a lot of fun.

  • And as I think I say in the vid, you don't need specifc markers. You can use anything in your shot to track it. But having markers makes things easier.

Some programs, such as Boujou, will analyze an image and create tracking markers for you. I will post some links to examples of those I've done in the past.

  • Very cool... I've been thinking about doing some stop motion and dropping it into a CGI background so this is all useful info. Thanks!

  • I've got an AT-AT I want to stop-mo at some point. I gotta build the armature. I hear magnets in the feet on a metal surface works great to help keep things in place.

  • Might work if you're careful... it'd sure be a whole lot easier than repeatedly drilling holes in the table and bolting the thing down for each step... like I had to do in 'art school'.
