dáazho (hello), I think yes it is different to see girls in the drumming circle but in order to keep native beliefs and the way of life going after the elders pass this is awesome.....if more young people took an interest and learned from the elders our history and beliefs will not die. I think you should never be ashamed to be native and stand tall and proud! And stop wanting to be like the white man and embrace or differences.
I'm Anishinaabe from Minnesota. You can sing on that because it's not a dream drum. It's important to keep our songs and language alive. Keep up the good work. NAGAMON!!
Women in drumming circle. It is the only way I have seen it here in Northern Cal. Awesome sound the drumming and singing. I'm an outsider so maybe my opinion does not count. However, I have picked up a drum and would like to become involved in a men's drumming group. My drum is lonesome and I do not know any chants yet.
great job to the lil one on the lead at 2 min and 29 seconds into the vid good job ladies remember it was the women who made the songs and drum and gave it to the men
This is awesome, ladies. There are lots of women on the drum all over and they are supported by many traditional elders. There are pow wows where women's drums are honored. The culture needs to be kept alive and people need healing, whatever it takes. The drum comes from the heartbeat of our mother anyways. Let's honor the women.
my nieces have their own drum here in the northwest called Little Thunder. They have been honored at pow wows by other drums. Everyone has their own opinion, but if you lose yoursongs you can't get them back. keep it up. Sing your own language. All the popular drums have their own songs. You'll only go so far with borrowed songs. Good Luck!
sounds read awsome girls keep it up!!! maybe will see each other on the trail Craig Pangowish Lead Singer for Spirit eagle drum from manitoulin ontario
sound goot! but if you wanna see good singing look up meskwaki nation, or eyabay or northern cree, or the boys, or MNX, or tha tribe, or stoney park, or red bull, or high noon, or standing horse, or dakota hotain, or thunder valley jrz, or whitefish bay, or younggreyhorse. uh oh time to go southern, look up sizzortail,or thunderhill or,southernboyz,or wild band of comanchees,or cozad,or zotigh, yellowhammer,or youngbird,or southern crew,or redmoon singers, or cedar hill, ect. uh oh no more room
Dear Athabascan, you and your group sound really good. i have seen women singing and dancing around the drum plenty of times. If this makes you happy, then keep doing it. These kids in this video look pretty young, it is a good idea to teach them young. You have a very big heart and i am so proud of you. keep up the good work.
if any 1 hasnt seen my details- every1 has their own opinion this video is of 2 groups that are from the same place but live in diferent places they have joined 2gether in the village that i live in,not much men that are interested in drumming where im from i am winnebago since there are no men to lead the drum i've gotten permission from 1 of the chiefs in wisconsin to drum just wanted to let everyone know about this im juss some1 that would like to keep our cultural alive.
what legendarydynastay said but im a plains cree from canada, damn that is direspectful to the guys all around us lol no direspect here lol but thats wrong gurls singing on the drum with drum sticks lol
but how wonderful that these girls are learning and obviously learning something...if more women were taught things instead of banning them from things, the world would be a better place. peace.
umm... correct me if i'm wrong and no disrespect intended BUT i'm native american also, ojibwe, and we are taught that woman are not supposed to be on the drum it's a big part of our culture and seeing women on the drum is really shocking to me, it really goes against everything i have been taught
@LegendaryDynasty Thsi happens in Alaska. If you research teh Tlingits, men are the ones who traditionally sing and dance. Womens aren't supposed to. But that changed because of the shift in dynamics in the latter third of teh twentieth century, In my village teh men are supposed to drum and carry the gunhok. teh women sing pretty darn loud though because they easily outnumber the men on the dance floor.
Ohan sacred women singing at the drum its the way of life, while the men stand in thebackground and sing, this makes my cry tears of joy,i am proud to be anishnabe, aho
ok, to me this is back-wards...girls singin at the drum and a guy singin back up....thats just me though....although you girls are soundin good. its just different for me, i heard and saw women singin at the drum before just have never witnessed a man singin back-up
My husband was up from an area i think near there sterling but i might be wrong. Still it sounds impressive. Sorry i got the location wrong... just sorta sounded like a song i heard before.
love the drum music thank you for inviting me into your house
